We bought a Kubota Z122E-AU zero turn mower only 6 years ago with only 232 hours on it before one of the rods went into the engine. Prior to this we had multiple issues go wrong with it just after warranty period expired, including having to get a new carburetor. We looked after it well, and were VERY disappointed in Kubota! We were particularly… Read more

upset as the in-laws bought the same model zero turn at the same time, however it had a Kawasaki engine and ours was a Briggs and Stratton. We have since learned from all local mechanics that Briggs and Stratton engine's don't last long at all. In hindsight we believe this is very dodgy salespractice offloading stock to unsuspecting customers. I would not use or recommend Kubota to anyone looking at getting a zero turn mower.

The bad news just keeps coming – Purchased in March 2015, brand new. Now has 350 hours. The day the machine arrived and was started the first time, the tappet cover developed a leak. The cover was loose - doesn't the dealer supposed to check the machine prior to delivery? The ignition switch had to be replaced @ 150 hours. The transmission brake shafts (2) started to leak @200… Read more

hours. Both transmissions were replaced. A second ignition switch was replaced @ 220 hours. Deck belt broke @250 hours - cost of belt alone over $200. Replaced deck belt tensioner and guide pulleys at the same time, as the bearings were noisy. They didn't cause the belt to break. Now out of warranty and the transmission brake shafts started to leak again, on both transmissions @300 hours. Obviously this is an inherent design/manufacturing fault and should be repaired by Kubota at no charge to the customer, but that is not the case, according to Ongmac Trading - the agent for the brand - and Kubota - both of whom I've contacted. The transmission belt broke @340 hours. The machine is looked after, has been serviced regularly, cleaned after each use - including the removal of the belt covers to clean grass clippings trapped. I would not buy another product for Kubota and warn other potential buyers to be wary of the brand.

comfortable and easy to operate – the Z121s operates well and is smooth and responsive to handle. have a farm and it mows lawns well but struggles in the heavier grass. (live in tropical north Queensland and the grass grows quickly). It struggles with long grass or weeds because of the anti-scalping guards but I need this feature ( some operators fit extensions on the spigots). I… Read more

have 200 hours and no belt problems but the machine is cleaned with a blower My wife loves this machine as it is fast easy and comfortable. This machine deserves fold down ROPs and a fuel gauge. when filling one needs lift the seat to view the tank or have a second person watch the gauge. The throttle mechanism is flimsy and awkward to set. The style of the mower is cluttered and catches leaves and debris when mowing. The Kolher engine is heavy on fuel and has no mixture adjustment. should have taken a Briggs and Straton. The fuel line has tap in top of the tank on a bend and this has BLOCKED with fibre on several occasions. For my use I would sometimes like a higher top speed. The spigot bearings have no protection against wrapping with string or fibre and I replaced the original Chinese bearings with SKF at 40 hours and fitted protection for the bearings.

Who knew?! – Comfortable ride, mows nicely. However...can't put bagger on ( or take off) without two people. The bolts are under the shoot so far, that you need to get under it to tighten or loosen. Your choice is to lie on the ground or put the machine on a jack either way, still 2 people needed. Very poor design. Took it in for general servicing, and… Read more

told the tech my problem. He soldered the bolts on the deck from the bottom up - thought that was nice of him. Now can't put my grass shield or the grass catcher on because they don't fit between the bolts. Since brand new the grass builds up in the mower deck to the point of slowing the blades. Again, jack, get under with putty knife and scrape clean - at least once a month. Thought it was just my machine but have since talked with other owners who have the same problem. If you think you need a blocker (which I also purchased) or a bagger, I can not recommend this machine. However, if you simply need to mow, its a very nice machine.

TOUGH LITTLE MOWER – I purchased my Kubota Z125EBR in 2015 apart from a change of blades and a couple of belts this mower has been great. I have approx 5 acres I mow regularly and I don't baby my mower I have it serviced by Kentan Hexham from where I purchased and they have been great to deal with as well. I would definitely buy another Kubota. Show details

Can’t complain. It’s a beast. Not good going down hills – I bought new in 2016. I change the oil and filter ever 50 hrs. I change the blades every 100 or sharpen them. I have replaced the left side mower leveler wheel twice. I keep the belts clean under the guards. Despite all the bad reviews I have never had an issue. 320 hrs so far.‍Just very dusty to mow. Too many issues. deck, wheels, belt – 1. Caster wheels are puncture-prone, forever need fixing, ended up buying solid wheels on eBay 2. Found out the clevis end of the adjuster cylinder became extended. After adjustment all good for a… Read more

couple of months. Then have to be done again. Ended up removing the cylinder and adjusting using the deck level rotary nob. 3. Belts last between 20 to 50 hours and are prone to come off the pullies frequently. ended up installing a Kevlar belt from eBay. 4. Main wheels have poor grip. This mower is not suitable for steep slopes. Greate mower for level paddocks.

Wish the dang belt would stay on!!!! – Very poor belt tensioner design. Deck belt constantly coming off even with new belt. Pain to put back on. I'm pleased with other attributes. Would not buy another one because the deck belt is so frustrating. I mow 3 acres of fescue lawn every week. The machine uses 4 and a half gallons of gas for each mowing. Mows good and blows the heck out of leaves in the fall. Show details

Great from day one – Couldn't be happier with this mower. Had mulching kit fitted at dealer. Mow 5000 sq meters twice a week in summer. Keep my own services up. Have had for 7 years , only done 2 belts and have replaced deck bearings once. Only gripe is all of the little holders they put on them good for nothing except filling up with leaves and grass. Show details

Properly useless design – Difficult to work on, and I spend as much time working on this machine, as working with it. I cannot in good conscience leave any where close to a positive review – Kubota did not live up to the hype on this one. I purchased two hours away thinking I would get a better experience then the locals. The original purchase was fine. Trailered it home and on the second use, threw a belt. I inspected and put back on and made adjustments underneath and no problem with that since. Around that time though the Kommander… Read more

started dying mid mow. It would start back up right away so I finished the season after replacing the air cleaner and fuel filter. I trailered it back to the dealer and told them they could work on it at their leisure since i no longer needed it for the year. A couple months go by and I decided to pick it back up to find a bill for somewhere in the range of $150. I wasn’t happy however they told me the problem was dirty gas. That was possible I suppose but I was skeptical. I trailered it two hours back home feeling reassured they handled the issue. They did not. I mowed half my lawn to have it die again. Even under warranty I was scared to take it all the way back to have them possibly charge me again. I fix my own stuff so I decided to trouble shoot the issue. I’ve bypassed A multitude of switches, replace And bypassed fuel filter, installed an electric fuel pump, replaced plugs, solenoid, fuel lines, more fuel filters, battery, wires, tightened and cleaned grounds and power leads, cleaned and flushed carb a few times, rerouted fuel lines and wiring away from heat sources. Checked and double checked spark plugs and gaps, coil gaps et al. It still quits after it warms up. Usually about three attempts to mow about an acre. The LED lights are neat and the deck is built like a tank. With 150 hours on it now I’m throwing in the towel. The service center in Omaha is far from helpful as apparently I’m responsible for the “dirty gas” I put in and the salesman washed his hands of me the moment I left the dealer with it. Not My Kubota. I’m ready for a Grasshopper.

Really pleased with this mower – My first zero-turn mower and it's a good'un. 70 hours on it after two years with no problems at all. Starts 1st time, every time. Plenty of power to cut tall, thick grass in the paddocks and the blades are tough enough to let me ignore small sticks up to 2.5 cm in diameter. No belt issues or scalping and sharp blades leave a nice finish on the lawn. Show details

Happy so far – I purchased the z121s last year to replace an Exmark Quest i had the previous 10 years. As far as quality goes its made to be a residential mower, not commercial. the first hour of use, but my dealer replaced it and i have not had any other problem as of yet. My only concern is the Kohler engine, and if it will hold up after years of use. I think Kawasaki are better engines for sure and an upgrade to those engines would help sell these better. Overall I am pleased and would recommend testing one and comparing it to others to see if it fits your needs.

Keeps stopping Z121S – Purchased this new and have had this mower for a few years now. Worked really well for first 40 hours. Since then constantly won't start. Also kept cutting out. they replace 1 of the 2 coils and this seemed OK. Now it won't start and appears to be one of the cut of switches. Maybe park brake or seat. Haven't resolve it yet. To have these problems after 42 hours of use seems problematic given the purchase price. Show details

When its going cant beat it - belt problem also hopefully fixed – This is my second Kubota Zero turn , first one was a Z122e 48" with Briggs and Stratton 22 hp. Traded after 120 hrs , had a pretty good run except head gasket went just before warranty was up , didn't have to pay so all good. Never broke a belt , dislodged twice by stick and son wasn't mowers fault....this is why I bought another one.........but… Read more

with in 7 hours of having the Z125s 54" kohler 25hp? had broken a belt , then 30 mins later had scored another one . Called out service guy from where I purchased it and said I had noticed this mower was scalping and the second belt had twisted on the deck pulleys . Turns out they had never performed the pre-delivery service, so the mower had flat tyres, the horizontal deck alignment was out and the front deck wheels were in the wrong position. Since getting all this right I have now done 10 more hours and going well. Having said all this I still believe the larger area of the deck creates more leverage and a greater risk to dislodging the belt when mowing around uneven/lumpy areas. Great mower , heaps of power and new sharp blades give a great cut . I was furious when these belts started breaking on my new $8000k mower , so I hope this helps those of you still having issues with this.

Great unit – I bought this mower to replace a Toro ride on. After looking for years at other options in the price range, this offered a much better/tougher build for the price. hydros. I'm more than happy with having a Briggs ELS in the Z122E. My old Toro had a Briggs ELS and is the only thing that didn't break and is still running great after 11yrs. I have had no problems with the Z122E so far after 4yrs/83 Hrs but I do look after it because my area can get quite dusty. I've read through the reviews on this site and, IMO, a lot of the problems experienced are down to bad dealer setup and/or operator error/ poor maintenance. Doesn't stear great on hills? Zero turns are not recommended for hilly terrain. Belt smoking? The belt has not been put back on the right way. I did this myself. I threw the belt twice when I first got the mower. Worked out what I was doing wrong and have not had a problem since and still on the original belt.

The local dealer delivered to my home, provided excellent instruction and ensured I was familiar with safe use. I note other reviews complaints re belt issues. The advice I was given was not to wash under deck. I use a blower after mowing, scrape build up out every now and then and hand wash to keep the rest of mower clean.
