Get your money back people!!!!! – Hi all, I joined the Carlton gym and three weeks later it closed down. I asked for refund they said no so I filled out the online application for the tribunal and went to Sutherland court for a hearing and no one from the gym showed up. The magistrate requested the company to refund me and they did two days later. Good luck to everyone!

Borderline Bathroom facilities at Lifestyle Wheelers Hill – Does your gym provide a hair dryer? When I joined Lifestyle Fitness at Wheelers Hill, one of the reasons I chose it was the facilities. Slightly tired, but smelt ok in the "wet areas" and yes, a hairdryer. Said dryer now broken and management refusing to replace it as they say people don't respect them and keep breaking them. I didn't think… Read more

an area like Wheelers Hill would be full of bogans! I will be moving gyms when membership is up if they don't get one. Seems petty but its a pain, already enough things to lug in there and I think with what gym's charge, a measly hairdryer should be a given! It also gives me the impression that management don't care once you are signed up. The staff are all very pleasant and friendly, but even the manager says this is a 'management decision' and beyond her ......

Absolutely without moral or legal compass or conscience. Pure Robbery – Continued to promote memberships and take membership money from people knowing they were closing. Misled by saying closing for renovation at Carlton, then closed followed by Erskinville and Marrickville. Promised refunds and held out. Millrange Pty Ltd trading as Lifestyle Fitness Australia now in Liquidation. Shameful and disgraceful behaviour.… Read more

How can you live with your actions? This is nothing short of pure robbery. The owner of this business should be jailed.

Ripped Off! – The owners of the gym you haven't got enough guts to let all the members know that you have closed down all 3 gyms. What a dodgy businessman you are. Do the right thing and paid all the good members back .

What is members going to do? – Hi to all them lifestyle fitness members does anyone reported it to fair trade commission yet? Or any gov agency? I'm in the same boat just found out by showing up and finding the gym closed

Another gyn closing – After Carlton closing without warning with the explanation that they would be closed for two weeks for renovations I changed to Erskinville even though it is not all that convenient. Found out last night that Erskinville closing for two weeks - sounds familiar! Again I heard this purely by luck as there is no warning that I can see that this is about to happen. You give gyms a bad name.

Ripped off – Signed up for an 18 month membership only to realise they were closing for "major renovations" - friends told me that another gym (hard core) was buying it. after asking the managers about it they denied everything and now we get moved to some crappy gym that i have no way of getting to. (t-.-t)

BEEN SCAMMED, warning for people considering joining the Erskineville and Marrickville branches – This gym has been aggressively promoting a 1.5 year membership. I've purchased it, only with the gym closing within one month. Extremely unhappy, will also be making a complaint to ACCC and Fair Trading NSW.

Seems like a scam – I wish I had read these reviews as I took the three month deal offered by the Carlton gym (others offering this too) I also paid extra for all class access, most deceptive. John the manager "looked after me" the woman behind the counter took my card and money. I had told John I was pleased to join this gym as it was walking distance, not a… Read more

word from him or receptionist re renovations. I checked online and saw renovation notice and checked the gym that night for notification, nothing. This wasn't the trial I was looking for.

Dumb bells are a ringing loud & clear!!! – This is an absolute disgrace. Unethical, poor conduct! Paul galanos & co should never be allowed to to run any sort of business again. An absolute rip off. Looks like we all contributed to their lifestyle. Buyer beware!!

Unprofessional Conduct – I have attended this gym in the last few years, joined up for $800+ initially, and then they had $399, then $299 then $299 for 18 months etc etc...and it goes on and on, with the repeating, "never to be repeated" sales to lure new members. This led to the downfall/downgrade of the gym...overcrowding in gym classes, broken and lack of equipment,… Read more

unstable flooring, out of order air con, broken fans, broken mirrors, reducing crèche hours, reducing gym hours, cutting classes and staff! I get marketing material also every few days about joining, but I did not receive a notification that they were "closing for renovations" (cover-up for Gym taken over). Some members and Instructors found out a few days before it was scheduled to shut it's doors. They do not care about their members!

Biggest rort!!!!!!!!!!!! – I re joined last month for 18 months, used approx 1 month then received an email saying the gym will be closed for major renovations with no re opening date. The email was sent 4 days prior to them closing. I re joined for 18 months after the property was sold, how disgusting is it to charge me 18 months when they new very well that the business… Read more

Stay away from this gym! Nightmare! – From the start this gym has treated their members poorly! First they close the evening crèche with little to no communication to members, then they cut the weekend opening hours!! Not to mention the broken machines, the damaged and unsafe flooring in the aerobics room, the broken air con, broken fans! The list goes on! But i figured it was cheap… Read more

so i got what i paid for! Now they have decided to close for "renovations" and have given members 3 days notice!! Not happy!!

They haven't communicated with members and haven't told us when they will be re-opening. Now i'm hearing that they sold to hardcore gym! I have paid $299 for 18 months membership! I should be reimbursed for the time that they remain closed. I will not travel to erskineville or marrickville as i joined up to use carlton, not the other clubs! I have lodged a complaint with fair trading and fitness australia. I urge other unhappy members to do the same! I have learnt a valuable lesson in all of this - i don't mind paying a bit extra for a membership anymore. You certainly get what you pay for. Very unethical management at this gym!!

Going downhill – I've been a member at Carlton for about 3 years. I first joined when they had a joining fee of around $70 and paid around $20-30 a fortnight (i'm a uni student). I was very annoyed when they intrdouced their first "$399" sale one month after i joined as i was on a contract and could not redeem these benefits. The "$299 sale ending soon" only… Read more

JUST ended after saying it would end repeatedly for over a year. This has downgraded its reputation as it is now always full and they've cut classes which only makes things worse!!

The instructors aren't even happy with what's going on.

Poor management! Will not be renewing my membership!

It just keeps getting worse - do not join!! – I've been a member of the Erskineville club for 4 years. I didn't mind paying more when the gym was well maintained and offered plenty of classes, I even recommended 14 of my friends join too. The never ending "ending soon" offer has continued for a number of years now which has succeeded only in damaging the reputation of the gym (closing down… Read more

sale anyone?) and resulting in severe overcrowding.

Classes are being dropped with no warning (so they don't have to pay the instructors or the Les Mills fees) reception staff have been cut and expected to work without pay in some instances, the machines are always broken, the mats and flooring are terrible, the studios are mouldy and the sheer volume of people means it's impossible to get in a good workout unless you go before 7am.

The crèche hours have been cut, and as of this week at the weekend the gym closes at 3pm!

I don't care that the Marrickville club is 24 hours (if you buy a key for $49) I live in Erskineville which is why I joined a gym in Erskineville!

Too many people – been a member for about 2 years, will change gym when membership expire. basicly it is an over crowded gym, specially at peak time. queues on everything. love their classes but again classes are too full, more people than the equipment. customer services aren't that friendly and the music is super loud, you will think you walk into a night club. classes, creche ladies :) too many people, classes are too full and not enough equipment.

Gym money hungry – Ordinary customer service , took my money when I joined up. No explanation if classes, where toilet n change facilities were, not willing to answer my questions re using 24hr gym. Disappointed. Not sure how to get my money back. Bike machine was broken, running machine slipped a bit, what to do???? No Customer service

Misleading membership offers – Been a member for a few years using 2 of the gym locations was happy with gym until i took up the $399 offer they had displayed, offer stated "unlimited" use of gyms (across other locations) however i went to use the gym the other day at the Erskineville location & was told sorry you are only allowed to use the marrickville location & told to talk… Read more

the the marrickville location about it. Went to the marrickville location & apparently the $399 offer only allows access the the other locations for 3 months after that time you are only allowed access to marrickville location. I was never told this when signing up to the offer & had enquired with a staff member when i took up offer if membership would change & staff member said "no". Took up issue with management & told that they will only allow access to other gyms if i pay $100 upgrade fee... Be very careful when taking up lifestyle fitness offers they are not what they seem.. Good classes good equiptment Deceptive offers, front counter staff are not trained in membership details leading to misleading customers

Old machines and overcrowded – These guys have had a 'special' running for about 6 months now, resulting in a wildly overcrowded gym. It wasn't too bad about 6 months ago, but this 'special' just keeps going and going. I hope for all those who have signed up that it's not a sign desperate money grabbing before closing down. The other issue is terrible quality equipment. The… Read more

Difficult to leave! – I was a member of the gym for 2 years and I found the cardio facilities quite good, although many machines were consistently broken. The cable weights area is awful and the free weights were old. I liked the classes though, which is why I kept going back. They have some great spin classes and used to have a decent boxing class...which is now very… Read more

average.

Over the last year the class times have changed and obviously they are trying to reduce overheads by offering less classes. Yoga is just twice a week and only one is reasonably timed after work.

The staff are always friendly and helpful, they make you feel very welcomed.

However, I am in the process of trying to cancel a membership which is proving convoluted, confusing and like they purposefully make it difficult.

I have been informed that in order to cancel my membership I need to physically go into the gym! There is not a section in the contract that states this. According to the contract I need to sign the form, which I can do remotely and send via fax/email. Just like I would for a bank account.

Further to that they have a 30 day cancellation period, which is mandatory even though my contract has finished. Even more confusing is the fact their contract states there is a 30day notice period for cancellation, but even though I have paid 2 weeks ahead, I will have 2 more payments deducted, which makes no sense at all.

I owe them pro-rata an extra 12 days, but they want me to pay for 30?!

The whole cancellation thing has left me with a very bad taste about the whole place. I'm sure the reason they want members to go into the gym to cancel is so they can have a salesperson talk you into staying!

Stay away (although I hear Fitness First are even more awful to get out of contracts with) Friendly Employees Weights are dire, machines regularly broken, class timetables have been greatly reduced. Cancelling is almost impossible.

Ok but expensive – The facilities are ok, if abit old. There is plenty of room, however sometimes long waits to use equipment. The big drawback to this place is it ridiculously expensive. For 1 year membership i can build my own gym at home. I wouldnt rely on their inhouse personal trainers, as they are really hard to find, let alone talk to. Had all the equipment i needed. Very expensive.

Prehistoric free weights room. Worse gym I have been to – If you just want treadmills, this gym might be ok but the free weights area would have to be the most rundown gym in australia. Old, rusty, mis-matched weight, spewed all over the place. Staff....what staff? There is literally never a moment when a trainer walks past and you can ask advice. Really a poor experience. Plenty of parking, well positioned. Limited range of weights and the ones they have belong in a museum.

OK – I was a Lifestyle Fitness member for a little over a year, mostly using their Marrickville franchise. Most of the people that work there are friendly, there's a few that are a bit full of themselves though (including the woman I dealt with when I cancelled my membership as I wasn't getting good value for money there anymore). It's nothing… Read more

special, just another gym (albeit newer than some of the others in the area). They'd need to drop their prices (I never used classes and there was no option to have them not included in membership) and ensure that their equipment was better maintained before I'd consider signing up again. Never very crowded, trainers are personable, TV screens in cardio area, easy parking. Follow up review sessions aren't easy to come by (which should be standard at this level of membership). Equipment can be a bit shoddy (monitors not working properly on many pieces of cardio equipment, mats disintegrating leaving purple rubber all over you). Other gym users can hog weights without anyone pulling them up on it. Weight room aimed at women is often taken over by bodybuilding guys who drag weights in from main floor so they have an entire wall of mirrors to gawk at themselves in, taking up all the space and making a mid-level circuit driven workout impossible. When my membership was up they continued to direct debit my account despite me only signing up for twelves months of direct debit payments (my contract was "continuing" after the twelve month period but the paper I signed with their DD provider clearly stated I only approved of payments coming out for a year).

Terrible – Look, they do try and help. They are too friendly geared towards making money from you. Attracts the meat heads grunt boofheads body builders which can create an intimidating atmosphere for normal or novice gym users. social crowd, not overcrowded, three gym locations. The equipment is old and not maintained, equipment not replaced nor fixed, the business side of things is run ruthless ie cancellations ,

Unhelpful Gym – Just moved back to Sydney, only here for 5 months.. Desk lady could not offer me any discounts nor any help other than their way over priced standard rate membership. My kids love the girls in the creche so its always fun and easy to catch up with my friends at the classes. No heros there either so i feel comfy doing weights all the time too.
