Lopi republic 1250 – I had my Lopi 1250 installed about 3 weeks ago and am very happy with it's performance. I read the reviews here prior to the installation, and was a bit worried by my choice, but it heats a large room very effectively. I have hydronic heating for most of the house, but have the lopi in the kitchen/family room which is 5.2m (w) 13m (L) with 3.6m… Read more

high ceilings. It heats this room easily and we generally have to back off the air to it to reduce it's output. We have had no problem with smoke when lighting it, and have no need to use the optional fan we fitted to it. We chose this heater because it has a very small footprint, and didn;t want a large heater dominating the room.So far, we are very happy with our choice

Was told ‘Rolls Royce ‘ of internal combustion heaters, Not So – FREEDOM BAY (model) After only 2.5 years of use, and carrying out maintenance, blowing out fan twice yearly, only burning hardwood and not over burning! Nosiest fan in the world even at half speed, TV needs to be put up to hear it, main round flue air damper and shaft disintegrated (burnt out ) mid section bar on ceiling that holds fire bricks… Read more

went the same way ( oxidized rusted and fell out ) 3.5 year mark, air tubes also rusted and fell out, very annoying overall due to the fact they told me it was the Rolls Royce” of heaters. Six months after purchase I bought a Heat Charm for the rear of the house, it’s been 7 years with both units and the Heat Charm is bullet proof! Great unit ! Aestheticly Lopi freedom Bay wins ! But the Heat Charm, I would buy again ! Cheers

LOPI 1250 - Air channel and air tube corrosion problems – LOPI woodheaters all suffer from serious internal metal corrosion problems on exposed replaceable metal parts. I would not recommend that anyone buy these wood heaters. My story is as follows: we purchased our LOpI 1250 new and after 4 years we discovered some major corrosion holes in the internal air channel and air tube. The air tube was too… Read more

badly corroded and had completely fallen out. We have stopped using our wood heater so further damage does not occur. The LOPI Warranty Years 3 to 5, covers parts and labour for firebox assembly which includes air channels and air tubes. The air tube is an easily owner/operator replaceable part as are firebricks and baffle bar. However, the air channel is welded into place and Can only be removed and replaced by a boiler maker who are very expensive. We received a quote of $500 labour to permanently remove the air channel and not replace this part. This replacement part probably costs around $200. Dragon Wholesaling, who are the LOPI dealers in Australia, have refused to pay for air channel repairs because they think the damage was caused by water, possibly as a result of an installation issue and insufficient maintenance. The wood heater owner is not responsible for the Installation. The owner is responsible for maintenance, and I have replaced replaceable parts where required. This is not a good enough excuse to leave the consumer out in the cold ! This wood heater was supplied and installed by Rainbow Heating services who are a Dragon Wholesaling agent and responsible for this. This LOPI air channel corrosion problem is common place with all their wood heaters and there is no maintenance that can be performed to the air channel to stop it from corroding, unless you permanently replace this part. Therefore, the air tube cannot be replaced if the air channel is corroded and there is no place to install the tube into. We have burnt only dry firewood in this wood heater and nothing else. Dragon wholesaling have got it all wrong ! In my opinion they are not a very reputable trader and difficult to deal with when it comes to minor repairs/spare parts under warranty. It seems that the LOPI Warranty for new wood heaters is for sales purposes only !

Rusted Out Within 3 Years – As title says, rusted and burnt out within 3 years. No excessive use, good, clean dry wood only. Appalling warranty follow up. Stick to the Aus brands, they obviously can handle hard wood burning temps. Ok... a 3 year follow up. A new Lopi heater replaced (due to original rusting out). Guess what? rusted out again within 3 years... these heaters are crap  Show details

Wood Heater - Lopi Republic 1250 – Good design, looked good, worked well, easy to use - however the air control valve has no visual indicator as it slides in and out so you have to gauge the halfway setting yourself. The appliance corroded very easily when the flue leaked as the guy that sold it to us installed the flue incorrectly. We no longer have it as we had our money refunded… Read more ·  1

and the appliance taken away.

Beware that wood heater installations must comply with the Australian Standards/ Building code and manufacturers requirements. Overall design The air control valve has no visual indicator as it slides in and out so you have to gauge the halfway setting yourself.
