Minis small breed of Purina lucky dog 3kg is wrong lable – It is label on the bag that for small breed Minis. But indide the 3kg bag contain big pallets in bone shape. Mix with small round pallets. My dog can not even swallow those bone shale and reject to eat. I have to break those bone shape in half to turn into small pallets before my dog can eat. These big pallets with bone shape even bigger than big dog food in diameter length. And the bag dont even have the zip to close it after cut open.

Made my dog sick – My dog liked the taste and I've tried introducing the food slowly but every time it makes her sick. Vomiting, gurgly tummy and pain, and lots of gas. Big no unfortunately. Show details

My dog loves it BUT – I did not know why, but every time we give these minis to our dog (healthy Kelpie) he spews it all up. Tonight I gave this mini food to him one last time to be sure, and he spewed all in the house. It just like comes out of him with no warning the poor fella. Bought this from Safeway Bendigo. 1w ago.  Show details

Lucky Dog Minis – REVIEW UPDATE*** December 2019 What a shame!! Lucky Dog minis was working out to be the best dry food for my dogs, they were thriving, especially my cav with IBD I wasn't buying anything else but this..... Now they've gone and changed it!?!? Just why purina !?!?!? Packaging has changed, ingredients look the same BUT the protein percentage has… Read more

gone up to 19% from 16%. Even though the ingredients list looks the same, clearly there has been a change. AND now my dogs cannot digest this. They have been so constipated and the poo has stuck to their bums.

Epic fail PURINA!!!! My review has now been downgraded to 1 star.

Original review:

I think Lucky Dog minis (and adult variety) is a basic as it gets, however for some reason this seems to be the only food my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is able to digest perfectly. She has IBD and I have tried every brand and every feeding style for her and nothing has worked like lucky dog minis has. Its not my first choice for a dry food for dogs and my other dog eats super premium dry food and raw. I think the nutritional analysis is very poor (low protein 16% probably mostly cereal protein and fat 10% ) and the salt content (2.5%) is high. I would like to see this food not coloured in food colours (though I have been assured they are human grade and safe) and would like the ingredients list to be more transparent. A lot of Ands/ors and by products - seems very ambiguous. However in saying this my Cavalier is in great condition, ideal weight, glossy and soft coat and most importantly - happy. And no digestive complaints!

And for those other cavalier owners out there who know the very real struggle with blocked anal glands - this food seems to keep my cavs anal glands clear.

Here is an updated image of the current lucky dog minis bag as the image at the top of this page is outdated. I know this because my childhood dog ate that version of Lucky dog minis and I remember as a kid being interested in the milk pieces which no longer are in Lucky Dog Minis. No this did not influence my choice as an adult to feed my Cavalier this food. My choice is based solely on the fact my dog can digest this.

November 23rd 2019 Update: Lucky Dog Minis Still working out okay. Beef, Vegetables and Pasta flavour.

Look I get it. This food is cheap. But does being cheap mean it's bad? Well I don't know anymore. My dogs have never been healthier and 8 months on from my last review, my dogs are thriving on this. This is hilarious to me as I have been a dog food snob of past and have purchased super premium $100+ foods for my dogs, and they were nowhere near this healthy as they are on $6.99 lucky dog minis. I don't know if Purina play with the ingredients in each individual batch as sometimes the poos have not been as good as other times, sometimes the food smells salty and at the moment my current bag smells quite sweet and almost like Lucerne hay (I'm not saying that's whats in it, it just reminds of that smell) other times it has no particular smell. There is something about this food that really gives the dogs coats that extra shine. I like that about this food. I also appreciate the fact that my IBD dog can digest it. I still wish it had less salt as seeing 2.5% salt on the analysis panel gives me anxiety. However I was told by my vet that dogs do not process salt like we do and the extra salt just goes through their system without harm effect, well not at 2.5% anyways. A few things Purina could do to make this food better; remove the food colourings, add a seal to the tops of the bags, and sell larger bags of minis. Maybe make the ingredients list seem less ambiguous and write words like 'wheat germ' instead of vegetable by products as these words are a turn off for most dog people, and there is a review on the internet claiming that vegetable by products in dog foods are rotting vegetables and/or wood shavings. People read this sort of stuff and think twice before purchasing, it scares them off! Please don't change the recipe other then the removal of unesessary food colours.

Lucky dog mini bone & heart shape biccies – Bought some Lucky dog minis home, can't remember which shop they were purchased from, but after a few weeks I noticed they had holes in them & within a few days most of them went to powder & they had little brown bugs on them, I threw them out & have not been able to find them in any supermarket at the moment, perhaps they had to take all of the products off the shelf? Will look for another brand.

Very good as part of a small, fussy dog's diet – Lucky Dog Minis were part of my Schipperke's diet for most of his adult life. His life was terminated during his sixteenth year for reasons that had nothing to do with his diet. As at least one other reviewer has pointed out Lucky Dog Minis probably should not be the sole source of nutrient and they might not have been my first choice as the… Read more

dry food component of my dog's diet BUT they were his only choice so it was a bit of a 'no brainer'.

No dry dog food or Lucky Dog Minis? In my opinion the benefits of having dry dog food as a usual part of a dog's diet are many so the choice was easy.

Are there 'better' dry dog foods for small dogs? Probably.

Were there better dry dog foods for my Schipperke? Probably not.

Did Lucky Dog Minis add to the quality of his life? I have no doubt that they did.

Would he have been better off on another dry dog food? Probably not as they mostly formed only a part of his food intake.

Does my current dog (a German Spitz) have Lucky Dog Minis? No. He does not have them because he prefers another brand of dry dog food specially prepared for small breeds.

Would I have fed Lucky Dog Minis to my German Spitz had he readily accepted them? Without a doubt. Lucky Dog Minis were convenient, acceptable quality, AND (most importantly) my dog liked them. Nothing that I am aware of.

OK – my dogs have always found these biscuits to be fairly attractive. The small pieces are very easy for smaller breeds to chew and they do not have the appearance of being artificially coloured like some brands. The ingredients list though shows fairly average quality inputs, particularly the meat products and by products. This is not a high end dog… Read more

food but is well priced and most dogs would find it tasty. I would not feed my dogs solely on this but as only a part of a dog's diet it is not a bad product and affordable. nice size pieces for small dogs, not expensive average quality dog food

Excellent – I've been buying Lucky Dog Minis for my fox terrier for years as it's the only one he seems to eat and I think he finds them easy to chew being smaller. They are pretty well priced - I only buy the small pack and it seems to last for ages. They are made with real meat and contain lots of vitamins & minerals for good health - well so it says on… Read more

the packet anyway! Will continue to buy these as my dog eats them and he's getting pretty fussy in his old age! pretty well priced compared to other brands & nice small size pieces for smaller dogs can't fault them
