I am pretty certain this dog food changed manufacturer and seriously harmed my dog. We were feeding him this food for a while with no complaints and then, with no change to his lifestyle, he put on around 4kg, his fur was coarse and he had diarrhoea. I don't often write negative reviews but I feel inclined to after having researched and worked out… Read more
it was this brand. Since changing his diet and after a few months he is back to being healthy weight with shiny/soft fur again.
Unique flavour – My dog is quite picky when it comes to food. He loves the Turkey and duck flavour which not many other brands offer. It is, however, quite pricey. Show details · 1

words (Image attached): For the first time in over 12 months, Ellie’s faeces are normal. No blood. No runny mess. No pain. Since stopping Ivory Coat just days ago, the "mystery" illness that haunted us for over a year has vanished. I feel like a "bad mum" for trusting this brand for 10 years, but the truth is, the food was the primary cause of her harm.
THE COST OF TRUST: Since January 2025, I have endured: • An exhorberant anount in vet bills for specialists and endless testing. • A year of chronic vomiting, bloody stools, and incontinence. • Antibiotics for her swollen Anus that was excreting pus • Up to 4 baths a day to keep her clean and comfortable whereby I needed to make 100% cotton diapers.
THE COMPANY’S RESPONSE: Ivory Coat replied with a generic template. They offered a "veterinary nurse" chat, but a DM cannot fix a year of trauma or the fact that their "recipe adjustments" are making pets deathly ill.
WARNING: Ivory Coat is NOT the high-quality brand it was a decade ago. Since The Real Pet Food Co. took over and moved production to Dubbo, the quality has declined significantly. Don't wait a year as I did—if your pet is sick, change the food. It saved my girl’s life.
WARNING: Life - Threatening Health Issues – Undisclosed Ingredient Changes Please be warned: Ivory Coat is no longer the high-quality product it was 10 years ago. Following the brand’s acquisition by The Real Pet Food Co and their 2022 move to a new manufacturing facility in Dubbo, the recipes were significantly altered.
While the company admits to "recipe adjustments," many pet parents believe that unhealthy, toxic ingredients are being used that are not properly disclosed on the packaging. I do not understand how retailers in Australia continue to stock these products without notifying customers of the documented risks.
The health implications for your beloved pooch or cat can be life-threatening. You can view the extensive history of these issues via the Australian Pet Owners Group (APOG) issue log: https://www.apog.com.au/recall-issue-log/ivory-coat/.
My personal experience has been devastating. Since the change of ownership, Ellie, my toy poodle has been suffering from: Severe fevers, Inconsistent vomiting, Chronic diarrhoea and blood in stools alongside five months of Incontinence, rashes, allergies and more. My pooch has been in so much discomfort, in and out of hospitals, requiring numerous specialists, endless tests, and up to four baths per day and all since the beginning of January 2025. Until this post I could not pinpoint what was occurring nor could our team of Drs, who've all undergone their utmost to have Ellie as comfortable as we could in her time of need, the bills reign in.
It is heartbreaking that a company is allowed to operate in such a way here in Australia all the while pets suffer. If Australia had a governing body, to regulate pet food we Aussies would not need to see our pets suffer.
Please note: Without a governing body here in Australia to regulate our beloved pets food, who can we trust, who has our pets best interests at heart and why isn't the government implementing change when it's companies such as this one whom will standadise responses given they are not the ones forking out the dollars to save my best friend and nor do I feel they care, if they did they'd start implementing change like many other start up dog food companies are, now they care so please do your own research for peace of mind and clarity. My experience is unfortunately backed by hundreds of similar reports on consumer sites—do not risk your pet’s life on this once-trusted brand.

The only dry food they eat – It’s been the only dry food both our dogs will actually finish in their bowls. They use to eat around their dry food and only eat the homemade food but now they eat both. Very happy dogs. Show details · 1

Dog food for dogs with allergies – My ACD was consistently licking his paws. I was advised it could be a diet allergy or grass allergy. It was suggested I try him on a grain free diet and Ivory Coat is what I choose. After a month on the Ivory Coat the change was amazing. He very rarely licks his paws now and he absolutely loves the wet and dry food. I would highly recommend to… Read more · 1

Avoid – I’ve been feeding my border collie the turkey or salmon grain free kibble for some years now. We had a bout of stomach issues which were quickly overshadowed as at the beginning of last year, her health declined rapidly. Hair loss, rapid changes in appetite, insatiable thirst, weight gain, lethargy and shaking. Coupled with continuous changes in… Read more
stools, blood in stools, urinary issues and just all round, a very sick dog.
I wish I’d read the later reviews before spending in excess of $12,000 for her veterinary care. She sees two veterinary specialists, as well as her primary vet, usually twice a month. I have spent countless hours building up and taking time off work to have her at day-long or 4hour + appointments to treat her symptoms. She is now medicated twice a day, takes 3 supplements as well as her medication and we take a trolley on her walk for when she becomes too tired to make it the short distance home. I have had multiple conversations where my dogs continued quality of life has been a significant consideration to continuing her treatment. The vet has been able to ease the symptoms but is still unable to satisfactorily identify the cause.
I will update this review if the vet is able to find a cause other than the food for my BC’s issues but I am so saddened that I didn’t see these reviews earlier and take action. Please don’t let your scenario be like mine. Avoid ivory coat.

Small kibble size but very high in quality – When we introduced our dog to this product for the first time he LOVED it from the moment he first smelled it before gobbling it up! With other kibble we often have to put something on top such as milk for him to eat it - but not this! He has no hesitation in eating this and finishes it all up in one session, whereas with other brands he often… Read more
eats half the bowl and comes back to it later.
The ingredients seem to be of a very high quality (it even smells like 'real' food!), and we've noticed he seems happier, more energetic, has no digestive issues with this food and even his coat seems shinier!
My only negative would be that he's a big guy (Bull Arab), and even though the packaging says for adult dogs, the kibble pieces seemed way too small for him. Like they are sized for a puppy.
I would buy this again, but as it's more expensive than other similar higher quality brands I would not feed him on this all the time. It would be a once in a while / treat meal. Highly recommended!

Would I buy it again? It's a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for with this product, so yes I would buy this again, but I would not feed him on this all the time. It would be a once in a while / treat meal. Highly recommended!

Allergies almost gone – My dogs absolutely love Ivory Coat. I have two seniors and a younger pup. They go crazy for it. I've noticed since feeding the kangaroo formula my dog has been scratching less. She used to be on the supermarket stuff but never again. Show details · 1
Made the Switch and Ditched the Itch – I found this dry food when I was searching for a grain free food for my dog. The grain in the kibble her breeder suggested was making her itchy but when I transitioned her to Ivory Coat, no more itch. I love that chicken meat is the main ingredient and she loved that too! The superfood blend of ingredients are a fantastic addition for a growing dogs diet. This company has excellent customer service. Show details · 1

Zipp faulty design – The zipper on the bag is an absolute pain, I have had several of the large 13 k bags and its always a problem, first the zip comes off the end, and then if you try to reattach it, it seals it up and you cant open it at all. Here is a classic case of the factory not checking the product sufficiently. The company must be losing lots of customers as a large bag like this needs to be kept sealed to avoid ants and the product going off.

Unhappy Pup – My girl was not a big fan of the Ivory Coat Chicken Stew wet dog food. The first batch was ok as I had mixed it in with her old wet food a few times but as soon as there was more chicken stew then other brand she was turning her nose up to it. We still have a few tins left that I am yet to try with her and will probably pass onto another pup for them to try. I received this product from Ivory Coat to review. Show details
Grain Free Adult All Breeds Dry Dog Food Salmon & Ocean Fish – While my own dog didn't take to Grain Free Adult All Breeds Dry Dog Food Salmon & Ocean Fish, it turned out to be a hit with my friend's furry companion! Previously they have ocassionally had loose stools and itchy feet on other brands. I now would not use anything but Ivory coat in my breeding programs.
Gentle on puppy’s tummy – Our 5-month old puppy loves Ivory Coat. We had some issues with food intolerances with other brands early on but on Ivory Coat he is doing well and his tummy is settled so we’re sticking with the Ivory Coat. He is a rescue mix (Labrador x German shepherd) which is why we chose the large breed option. We have also tried the chicken flavour which he enjoys too. Show details · 1

The best dry food on the market! – My border collie and red heeler have been on ivory coat since they were little puppies, they went from the puppy food to the adult food and both love it so much! My border collie specifically is a very picky eater but never turns her nose up to ivory coat! It has all the best natural ingredients and is fairly well priced! We alternate between the different adult breed flavours but the girls love the lamb and brown rice the most! Highly reccomend! Show details · 1
