Very similar experience, product is simple basic for light work, was Ok for first 20 minn then line started breaking every 2-3 min. Soaked it in water for 2 days but same thing happened when re-used. need another brand of line. Show details
Follow-up · I have found my receipt and going to take it back, The line supplied with it is very poor quality I think. I have checked the feed, the ferrule where the line exits the head, all look ok. I do not want to spend $20-30 on quality line and find that this is not the problem, I also resent having to replace something that is brand new and supplied by the manufacturer, who btw has not been in contact.
Makita is a great brand and I have purchased a number of their power tools in the 18 Volt category. They are well designed , robust and reliable. for the most important part, that is the trimmer head. The "Bump" operated line feeder is ineffective and the line keeps breaking at the trimmer head. I have endured multiple stops to re-feed the line only to have it break again after another 5 minutes of operation. Very disappointed. The product is in no condition to return to Bunnings so I have no choice but to start experimenting with alternative lines . The design of the bump head and feed needs a serious review.
