Excellent mower, we only have a front lawn and hubby was struggling with the petrol mower, as we get older, we don’t realise that pushing a mower can be a bit painful. This mower came on special with a few freebies, that was even better and it didn’t disappoint. Hubby has a few batteries, so this seemed like the obvious choice. So easy to start… Read more

and there isn’t much weight to it , the catcher is a great size. As a non mower person , I was exited at the performance and outcome. Thankyou Makita

Do not buy this lawn mower, you will regret paying for a premium product that is not worth – Has no power, keeps stalling. It looks like the front wheels are too low which makes it really hard to push. Show details

Not powerful enough – Purchased from Sydney tools. All I can say if you want to do low cutting don’t get it. It constantly cuts outs as it’s not strong enough. You can actually feel the mower struggling. Better off sticking to petrol. I’ve just got rid of mine to go back to petrol.

Wet / Damp Grass Performance

Battery mowers almost good enough – Fairly happy. Was tossing up between the 460 and 535. Ended up with the 460. The 535 is rated at 8 additional kilos, and even the 460 is heavy at nearly 30 kilos. This mower is less powerful than I expected, even after reading the 1 star reviews here. That being said, adjusting the height setting to 4 stopped the mower from frequently stalling.… Read more

For people who want a very short cut, you will be extremely disappointed. It just does not have the necessary power/momentum. I owned a cheap Homelite corded electric mower from 7 years ago, which had more power than this Makita.

The steel frame should add to the durability of the mower. The mulch/catcher guard at the back is plastic, but likely replaceable. Most electric mowers are plastic. My last plastic mower completely destroyed it's deck in two years of mowing a rocky yard.

My yard is 500sqm of lawn. I got 2/3 of it done on two 5ah bartteries. The 40 minute estimated runtime was accurate. I will be buying a couple generic 9ah batteries so that I can do the whole yard in one charge. I would not recommend a self-propelled model, as Choice showed they get half the battery life of the pushed models.

Performance was barely acceptable for a yard that didn't need mowing. Anything over 6 inches and I doubt this mower will cope. The mulching attachment is nice, but contributes to clogging, as the grass is not expelled. Using the catcher would probably make it perform better.

So the goods:

No electric cord No petrol fumes Should be less maintenance than petrol Cheaper to run than petrol Steel deck Generic and cheap aftermarket batteries available

Anyway, my main motivation was to save the damage to my lungs and body from the exhaust and fumes of a petrol mower. I am definitely a fan or corded electric mowers as well, but not having one is very nice.

Buy a Petrol with a Briggs & Stratton motor and 4 blades if you don’t mow wet grass – Bought DLM464 in October 2022, by Jan 2023 I contacted Makita about mower cutting out, no load dry short couch grass and catcher had just been emptied, tyre peeled off front wheel taking dress rim with it, dead man bar engagement tiring on hands. Come 16 month mark the cut outs persisted, then I just couldn’t restart, so took it to Bunnings, you… Read more

guessed it they fiddled and got it going saying it was the red button on the activation of dead man bar, but it had to be electrical as batteries where hot still after 30 minutes of no use, I will never buy this brand again. Sent to Sydney for investigation, Not happy. 26th March Makita was returned to Bunnings damaged, bent front right axle, so now steers left. Gouges in unblemished blue plastic, handle bar unattached badly scuffing Perspex battery cover, chipped grey paint where unattached handlebar knocked on deck no respect for customers property. Latest 2nd April 2024. Been offered a replacement but when I took it back to Bunnings I was told that my damage mower has to be returned to Sydney first, then they will send back a replacement, store had some in stock. Apology from Makita management for inconvenience to me a bit hollow, will replacement be a brand new item or a recycled one from another disgruntled customer on Bunnings 30 day refund or exchange policy? Stay tuned. Mower cost now over $800. 12th April 2024 received call from Operations Manager who told me that they would honour Makita’s offer to replace mower on return to Sydney of damaged mower, both lady managers were excellent and customer focused, result I have a brand new Makita 464 to mow with, persistence and patience pays off.

Worst tool I have ever purchased – Worst tool I have ever purchased. I very much regret not purchasing a petrol mower. As other have stated battery life if terrible. about 10 minutes per set of batteries. If the lawn is longer, the mower constantly stalls and must be pushed at about 1 meter per 10 seconds to avoid stalling. Battery performance may have degraded over the 2 years I have owned it. $750 for lawn mower, charger and 4 batteries. But 4 new batteries is $600. Show details

So disappointed – I was after a light cordless mower with a steel deck, good sturdy wheels, readily accessible batteries from an established manufacturer to replace my old Faithfull Honda 19 which I was struggling with on a large sloping block. After a lot of research I settled on a Makita 464PT2. I have to say for the first six month I was satisfied with its… Read more

performance conceding that it could never match the Honda . It gave a cut that was pretty good for a single blade, mulching was good & the catcher was large & easy to fit. The wheels had a rubber tread and moved quietly & freely. I cut on the third lowest setting on a lawn of couch & Fescue. without scalping but if the grass was long it would be on level 5. The mulch cuttings were fine and didn't clump unless wet. Cleaning the underside was a chore that exceeded the mowing. The blower only removed the very loose clippings & despite the good paint finish anything mildly damp required a stiff brush (toilet brush was best), a scourer pad & damp cloth. Then half way through a mow I shut it down & it let out a noise as if I'd run over the cat. Later I emailed Makita & instructed to take it to a local repairer for investigation of 6 month old mower. The authorized local repairer told me that they no longer could do Makita repairs (for the last 18mths). Makita then told me to return it to Bunnings( where I bought it) for repair. Got it back after a bit over 2weeks with a repair slip taped on stating they'd cleaned & lubricated it. Nothing about that in the maintenance section of the manual, & as for lubricating a sealed brushless motor can be a big no no. 3 weeks later the cat scream returned now with a mower with 3 wheels making contact with the ground as one front one was pointing skywards. I'm nearly 70 & worked with cordless tools since the late 70's & am in the habit of looking after my tools. What has happened to Makita? I returned the mower to Bunnings & was offered a full refund which I hastily took. Say no more

Worst purchase I ever made – The 2x 18v batteries doesn’t even last for 10 minutes, after 1 month of use. Don’t fall into these trap of these electric mower revolution and Makita is no exception . Paid 749$ total Waste of money and your valuable time. Nothing beats a beasty petrol engine Show details
