the sides for metres upon metres before empty the catcher ..Overloading the hinges and the self-propelled clutch ..people who own a lawnmower only change the blades when they’re down to the nuts .. laying there lawnmower on its side to change blades and flood oil into the air filter system ...let water and dust get into the petrol tank and petrol can ..never change your filter and dusty conditions and then complain that the mower won’t start or perform . My custom MSV self-propelled has been modified to have another 500 revs which gives good power Also I’m running an aftermarket eight bladed drive disc which gives it the ultimate performance that out reaches any other domestic mower These drive plates are very hard to find but makes it worth it when you can obtain them.. 98 octane fuel prevents pinging under heavy load changing oil and fishing out crank case after 9 years of use and 460 hours of mowing 40 oil changes at $2.50 using Automotive 10–30 oil and Magnetic sump plug from a car gear box
Worth every cent – This mower is now 8 years old. Serviced when blades needed. Replaced the clutch cable and starter rope. Have had trouble just lately with O ring seal under the carby. Cuts really well but I think the mulching could be improved on. Is the second best mower I have owned. Still have it as a back up as I bought a Honda for my mowing business. It cuts well – Good mower cuts well and starts easy I have the 750 series OHV engine very powerful Sadly, the self propelled system is poorly built, specifically the fact that grass gets into the gearbox area and stops it from driving as well. The Smart Chute is very good however Im a contractor and use this mower 8 hours a week, but I would not buy another one unless the qualities that are disliked were repaired.
Very reliable – I've owned an MSV 550 for at least 5 years and it has never let me down. Has needed two wheels replaced recently but, apart from that i believe its a very reliable mover. My lawns take 2 1/2 to 3 hours and it handles it no problem. I would recommend one of these to anyone. Reliable and handles the long stuff Havent found anything major apart from the air breather hose breaking in the middle where you fold the handles for storage
Bits fall off, you can't kill the motor – The mower looks good and cuts the grass adequately but the bad design (plastic) of the trims and catcher detract from what is basically a reasonable mower. The reliable motor is powerful and the 19 inch cut makes short work of any type of domestic applications. the problems I have experienced. They are not worth anything when trading them in. 19 inch cut. Reliable motor. Catcher full indicator. Snorkel inlet. Unlimited warranty on Catcher (you will need it) . Four blades. Hose cleaning fitting in base. Flimsy plastic catcher has been replaced three times in 3 years. Plastic trims fell off in first year. The Backplate is plastic and has cracked and replacement parts are expensive. Purchase cost is expensive bearing in mind when plastic parts just crack and fall off. The motor lasts for ever and never gives up.
Good if I could start the thing – I bought the Masport MSV 550 SP from Ebay brand new(Fujitsu air Promotion). It has had a problem starting since new. When taken the the local service agent he said it was the choke is has been 4 weeks to date and I should have it back tomorrow? Problem is all service agents are busy and there are no other options for warranty to get it fixed by… Read more
masport or Briggs & Stratton. Other than that the mower has been strong, a little hard to get the catcher on and off when full. Powerful Bad Warranty Service and could not start it from new
