Great ideas - poor implementation – Sorry to be a spoiler, but I bought a Masport Genius about 2008, and have found that it was just not robust enough - there are too many plastic bits. We have an 1100 sqm corner block, with large footpaths to mow, some chipping (mostly palm fronds), and sloping, slightly rough ground. The chipper bar and grass catcher were both replaced under… Read more

warranty, and from memory, the chipper bar has been twice since then, the grass catcher is broken and the flap that held it on was also broken, and now the base plate is completely broken and the throttle doesn't work at all. I think the B & S engine would still keep going for a long time yet, but the body has had it. The chipper chute used to work brilliantly, but the chipper blade just kept failing. I am not in the mood to buy another masport. I think I am on the lookout for a high-range Victa with a Honda motor.

Money well spent – I needed/wanted a new mower about 6 months ago, so I bought one of these. A well thought out and engineered machine. An absolute pleasure to use. Powerful, user friendly and well priced, considering the features. Set me back about $800-$850 and I think I have made the right choice. A Honda with similar features is about the same price, but I… Read more

thought I'd find the auto shutdown extremely annoying, so I got the Masport instead. And I'd buy another one tomorrow. Everything. Catch, mulch, side throw and branch chipper. Engine power. Catchers ability to fill right to the very top with no gap. Sometimes takes two pulls to start... This isn't a problem. I had a victa previously.

Excellent – This mower is perfect for a residential block, a pleasure to use and easy to store, i can stand on the catcher it is so strong (try that with a victa catcher)My MSV looks great and is the envy of the neighbours, if you have trouble changing the oil (buy a masport servicing kit and you can suck it out with a syringe) Highly recommended mower I love… Read more

everything about it, it mulches the the fronds off my 75 palm trees with ease, it gives a beautiful cut, the ergo handles make steering, storage and emptying the catcher a breeze, the height adjustable handles make it great for a couple as my husband is a foot taller than me so we can both mow at a comfortable height, the easy starting 6hp briggs engine cuts anything and everything in its path, i love the mulching plug when the lawn needed feeding after the drought it made the lawn recover beautifully...AAAAA+++++ The power in the 6hp motor will stir up a dust storm in a drought, Do not buy this mower if you are a contractor (it will not suffer the abuse they give them)T

Best cutting mower i have used – I am a contractor and use this mower (600St)as it was called in 2009,every day and cant fault it. I also have a rover and it doesn't have a very good air flow around blades as the Masport does. The only thing that I have had an issue with is the height adjuster which is plastic, however I believe the new models are a steel height adjuster, which… Read more ·  3

is what I replaced the plastic one with - cost a whole $10.

I am going to buy a self propelled one which if it is half as good as this one will earn me some good money. Very reliable, cuts very well, gutsy 625 briggs engine Height adjuster - plastic

Excellent – Good mower/engin, engin will deffintly out last body parts espically plastic parts but this is so Masport can keep us poor, a little over rated/priced for this reason Easy start - probaly due to the excellent B & S engin and air filering, achives commercial results. Love the Ergo handle (espically if you are a tall person). Oil drain plug is… Read more

place under body and need to remove blades to access (poorly dsgined MASPORT), plastic mulching attachment is a little tricky to get in and out, steeply priced for a diy'er machine. Masport needs to find materials to make machine lighter (probaly due to the 6hp engin?)but I guss this is designed for domestic use!

Excellent – As for the comment on the sump plug (oil drain hole) that has nothing to do with Masport, that is a B&S design. There is no other option for it, it cant be drained out the side or it would just go over the chasis or you would have to remove the whole engine. You dont have to remove the blades, you just need to position them in the right place,… Read more

unlike rover or any other mower that uses a 4 blade system, where you do have to remove the plate.

It is alloy, there really is no other way to make it lighter, be thankful its not a steel chasis :)

All mulching systems are tricky to put in, never found one yet that is easy, its just an awkward shaped hole! Good all round, has been stated above. I do find it heavey but you will get that with a 6hp OHV engine.

A simple lawnmower which does the job – It's a genius, I push it and it cuts the lawn. I fill it with fuel, start it up and mow the lawns without any problems. No problems, easy to use.

Good – Excellent. Cuts like a beauty.Always starts first time. Have used it about 8 times and never missed a beat. The mulching I was not sure about (The wife is a bit fussy) but you don't see the clippings laying around. The wife is happy and so am I. Sorry have to go. Have to cut the lawn. One pull start. Like the mulching. And great for chipping tree or palm branches. Not much. Maybe a bit heavy weight. And a little expensive.

Good Allrounder – I have owned this mower since buying new 11/12/99, it has been serviced three times by dealer and once by myself. The mower usually starts first or second pull, unless it has been sitting for a few months unused. I have only ever used genuine oil and have never had engine problems. My model never came with anything to safely feed items… Read more ·  1

into the chipper, so the handle on my Trojan garden rake is a foot shorter, this only took a second or two.

I don't know if the later versions of the same mower were as good, but it still cutting like the day I bought it and it is now 2011. Reliability, Features, Performance Catcher Handle comes out of catcher too easily and has since new. Heavy if you have to pick it up off ground

Excellent – It's worth paying a little extra for something that is going to service you well for a long time. I love knowing that I won't need to break my back to get it started. Easy to start, Snorkel stops the filter from blocking, variety of options. The price is little more to start with , but a wise investment.
