Awful tires – Tires are installed on a Toyota MR2 Spyder, in the rear only. They were on the car when I bought it and are practically brand new. I frequently spin out just trying to take off from a stop in the rain, and spun out turning around a corner and hit the curb. They aren't communicative, they will break out on you with no warning whatsoever. Dry grip… Read more
is pretty good, but once again they do not communicate with you and will scare the crap out of you when you reach the limits. The only pro is that they look kind of cool. Not worth the money, these are unsafe to use on a rear drive car.
Great tyre – I had these tyres on my Commodore and they were great, wet or dry. You must run them at 38 psi. Don't let them go under 10% or the walls will crack. That is the only problem I had with them. Otherwise they are a fantastic wearing tyre. Pity they stopped making them. Show details
Understeer and more understeer – Definitely not a high performance tyre. I feel the description of this product is false and i expected a lot more for the money i spent. I was at drift matsuri and the amount of times the car just understeered of the track was scary and the worst part of the whole thing is i put some no name Chinese tyres i bought for skidders on the front as… Read more
steers and they had more grip will be going back to federal 595s because they are cheaper and preform 100 times better.
Honestly im scared that people even run these tyres on the street grip 2/10 wet weather driving 1/10 had them on the car for 2 weeks so no comment on how they wear under normal driving conditions but on track they just disintegrate and melt. *im not sure how it explain it any better just kinda melts in to its self.
My car is a 1983 toyota sprinter ae86 set up for drifting and track sprints.
Best all round tyre on a budget – 205/50/15. What can I say? 35,000km and still going strong. On a light car, which what they are on, you cannot surpass the performance on dry and wet conditions for $130 per tyre! Cornering? Superb! Noise level? I give them an 8/10, on my car I literally cannot hear them over ambient noise. Confidence in braking (even though I own a non-abs… Read more
model). I haven't had an issue with sidewall cracks like others, so cannot fault them. No pressure lost at any point and I do run them on 38psi. Overall a great tyre for price. I would recommend them to anyone with a small to medium car.
OK for a stock car, but they are not a high performance grip level – Noise level is pretty good. Comfort isn't bad Cornering is decent. Straight line grip is where they fail big time. I'm staying with Kumho ku31 / ku39 for grip.
Not worth it – Less than 4 years ago, I put four Maxxis MA-V1 on my lancer. Less than 2 years later, I had to replace two of them because of splitting in the side wall. I replaced them with the same model. This time, I was constantly checking the tyre pressures because they were constantly going down. I had apparently had a bearing leak.Today I've just taken my… Read more
car in and found out that I'm going to have to replace another tyre because one of the tyres which was replaced now has splitting. It's one of the newer tyres. In the last four years I haven't even travelled 15000km. I'm not a hoon, I don't thrash the tyres, and I check them regularly. So far I'm out $573. I won't be going with Maxxis again.
They don't last; splitting on side walls. Gets expensive if you have to replace them every two years.
Good value but noisy – These tyres perform very well and are a bargain at their price point. They were on my Mondeo XR5 Turbo when I bought it and I have been surprised by both the dry and wet weather performance. Unfortunately being a directional tyre they are very noisy. I expect a bit of noise on course chip surfaces but these make a "thrum thrum thrum" noise on… Read more
smooth tar which is even more annoying. Unfortunately I wouldn't buy them again. Excellent wet and dry grip, steering feel, value. Too noisy for my liking.
I expected a lot more for my $$ – I purchased two Maxxis MA-V1 tyres for my VZ Commodore and after taking my car to a local tyre dealer to repair a puncture on one of these tyres, I was told they needed to be replaced. They had extensive cracking in the middle and all over the tyre. These tyres were fitted in May 2012, with a manufactured date of March 2010. Old stock in my books… Read more
fitted two years later! I had only travelled just under 30,000km.. Not the cheapest tyre I got but I expect a lot more! Maxxis didn't warrant a claim as they accused me of driving with under inflated tyres. I admit I don't check my tyres every month..but who does? So all in all I will avoid Maxxis Brand tyres in the future....
Lasted less then 30,000km, extensive cracking.
Beautiful tyres – Perfect tyres for any condition. Dry performance 10, Wet performance 9. noise 8. tread wear 8. feedback 8.(Ford Falcon XR6T 05)( Tyre size 235/45/17 But 1st of all. im sick to death of these "performance track goers" who think their cars are track cars and fit these and other day to day tyres on. tyres so if you plan on fitting these and others on your car and drive around like your on the track dont bother writing a review on them.
These Maxxis tyres cost me anything from $120-160(AU-VIC) a tyre depending if they"re on special and online prices.
The wet performance is just brilliant. for the price and performance giving there is nothing that compares in its price range.
Tread wear is great in the rural area from town to town, highway driving and quick runs. however, dirt tracks and farms tread wear is poor. Wet performance, Dry performance, Comfort, Noise and tread wear Tread wear on Dirt and Farm roads
Good – Firstly, this is a directional tyre which has nothing to do with being able to rotate the tyre. These tyres can be rotated as you would normally do, you just need to make sure the tread is facing the right way on your wheel to begin with. Tyre handles well under all conditions and would be a suitable tyre for most sedans. Tread life was… Read more
surprisingly good (35000km) and at the price what you get is hard to beat value wise.
If you are looking for a sports tyre however, look elsewhere as the tyre doesn't like being continually pushed and isn't the best tyre to inspire confidence after taking corner after corner after corner. Also, they are ugly as sin. But given they aren't supposed to be Maxxis' high end tyre, they have done a pretty good job. - Cheap
- Good wet handling
- Good cornering
- Decent tread life (35000km)
- Good response to braking - Not designed to be pushed continually
- Ugly sidewall
Poor wear – Had 4 205x40x17 fitted to my little Suzuki Liana at 99,300km. Rotated the front to the back after 13,000km. Now, at 116,800km, had to replace 2 of them. These were the tyres that I had on the front. They had lasted only 17,500km!!!! The fronts which had spent 13,000km on the rear only have about 4,000km left! The car normally travels about 50km a… Read more
day, with most being in 80kph zones. Not much stopping or starting. Good grip in both wet and dry. Very noisy tyre after about 5,000km of wear. Very poor tyre life
Excellent – For the price you can't argue, good tyre, hard wearing, wears evenly, good grip in wet and dry. Going for a 2nd set in the rear. Love em. If you have camber issues (inside wear ect), get that fixed and you'll get good tread life. But your mileage may vary as driving habits, road conditions and other factors will affect the wear Good… Read more · 2
handling and grip in both wet and dry, good braking performance. Very little tramlining that I could tell.
Replacing rears @ 30,000km's due to inside wear (camber issue) but I reckon there's about 10,000k's left in them. Fronts are about 40% tread left.
High k's are due to not punishing the tyre doing burnouts ect.
Hard launches in a 225rwkw Skyline get these spinning but it doesn't take long for them to dig in kick you forward. But don't expect the same performance in the wet. Does seem to get noisy as they wear but for the price the noise is justified. But in a import the last thing I'm worried about is a little noise.
As others have save being a directional tyre limits wheel rotating to front and back on the same side.
Not designed to be constantly punished - I'd say they'd wear out quickly as any other.
Good – A very good all rounder tyre. Rubber compound rubber compound hard enough to give good wear and prevent aquaplaning in the wet and soft enought to give good grip but not wear excessively. Have driven with these tyres in both wet and dry. Fairly quiet in the dry and good water displacement in the wet giving much needed traction. I always get my… Read more · 1
tyres from the same place all the time so I get good deals for being a loyal customer. it took them just over two hours to get them replaced but was worth the wait. Good economical tyres. Bought 4 for my camry at $70 each. Good rubber compound. Nothing bad about the tyres. I have an S15 Silvia but still have my reservations about using these tyres on it.

Know better, choose better.
Good – Had these on a Mitsubishi Verada in 235/40R18 form. Dry weather grip was sensational once warmed up, wet weather definitely better than you'd expect. Compared to the original tyres that would light up from launch if you booted the car off the line, these in comparison would only slip ever so slightly before digging in and getting on with it. … Read more
Launching in the wet wasn't so great, didn't take much to slip off the line, but once rolling cornering and stopping power was much greater than what you'd expect from a budget 18" tyre. They were a predictable tyre which I liked, they would never just let go unexpectedly.
Did about 15,000km on these before removing them to sell the car, still had a good 60-70% tread on them at that point, from regular enthusiastic driving. I would've expected 40-50,000km off these. Good value for money. Better than you'd expect from the price category they're in. Not the prettiest tyre, need high PSI to keep grip levels up.
Terrible – Directional tyres simply means they can only go facing one direction of the car (there is an arrow showing which is the right way). The problem is that when rotating them, they always have to be on the same side of the car (so front to rear, and rear to front). They cannot be swapped to the other side because that will change the direction they… Read more
are facing.
On cars that have various camber angles (sports cars etc) you usually get wear on the inside of the tyres. So swapping them around the other side evens the wear out. However with these you cannot swap them around, as explained before. So I ended up with my tyres worn completely on the inside, while on the outside there is still 40% tread. I still have to throw them away which is a waste of money. (Had made another review below which I have requested to be deleted) - Cheap
- Very very quite even when no tread on them
- Very good handling both in the wet and dry
- good braking ability with no noise
- Looks good - Rubbish rubber compound
- Managed only 39,000km on a Commodore VZ - My previous bridgestones had done more than 50,000km.
Another big issue about these tyres:
- they are Directional (so no good for cars with +ve or -ve camber such as sports cars etc)
- Will get you lower kms than bi-directional tyres and they will produce uneven wear resulting in earlier replacement. Read below.
- Not worth the money you save on the long run
Umm... the inside edge of the tyre is still the inside edge on the other side of the car. You would… Read more (+2 replies)
Excellent – I was thinking of changing to the Falken ZE912 but you just cant go past Maxxis MAV1 for cost and performance. i live in brisbane and Jax Quickfit are cheaper than bob jane. i was quoted $159 each with bob jane jax quickfit $142 Put these tyres on my 08 Toyota yaris in 205 45 16's and they are just awesome doesnt matter whether its wet or dry or… Read more
whether your a lead foot or not these tyres just stick to the ground like cement. being a directional tyre. rotation can be a bit costly cos you cant rotate them all round the car just front to back.
Good – Great tyre in terms of price paid. Cost me $124 per tire for 235/45/17s (Shop at the smaller mechs/tyre places instead of BJs and Jax). In 2010, that is amazing value! Definitely not meant for spirited driving especially in the wet. Strictly point A to B stuff and your wallet will be laughing at how much money these tyres save you. Well worth… Read more
the money paid in terms of being an everyday tyre. It gets you to point A and B. Decent in the dry and stable in the rain but I'd rather not do anything silly.
Have so far done 5000km and the whole set looks near new. Decided I'd try these tyres based on reviews from this site and also because funds were short at the time. I spin the wheels everytime I give it some stick in the wet. The car barely moves and quite literally sits there and spins until I ease off the throttle. Only then will the tyres regain grip and take off.
The car is a 180sx with only 200rwKW. My suspension is well sorted with the car sitting at a lowered height but has 0 degrees rear camber and perfect toe.
Terrible – Not that happy with them as they where put on brand new on my BA XR6 when I bought it in 2009 and the more I drive on them, the more noisy they get. can't wait to change them to a Toyo TEO plus. Excellant handling in wet & dry Extremely noisy, but still handles very well. being a directional tyre. rotation can be a bit costly cos you cant rotate them all round the car just front to back.
Good – Overall, these tyres are great value for money the are directly comparable to the Falken ZE912 but the directional look is very cool! I put these tyres on my 2001 Holden Astra in 215/45/17 and they are great tyres, great in the wet, really sticky on dry roads, comfortable and have low road noise. They look fantastic as well with their directional… Read more
pattern. However when I reached about 20,000kms on mine the road noise is immense, they appear to wear evenly but need to be rotated if on a FWD or RWD car. However due to them being rotational it limits the amount of rotation.
Excellent – Been using these for a couple of years on the Honda Jazz, and they are great. Will be getting them again for sure. Good value, Very good grip in the wet and dry Get slightly noisy as they wear, but not a real issue.
Excellent – Thanks everyone for there input on these tyres, For the price $155 for 235 / 45 / 17 , couldnt go wrong. Shame about the rude service i received from the Staff at Bob Jane T - Mart in HOPPERS CROSSING , VIC. Will definately not be going back there ever again.... my cousin and reading the reviews on this site. Previous tyres were Pirelli P Zero Rosso, The so called best money can buy were a short lived thrill ( lasted for 18,000 km's ) These Mav-1's feel just as grippy and a lot quieter than the Pirelli's . Like i said i have just fitted them today so i wil keep u updated as the km's progress. About as flashy as a kmart sweater, could have a been designed with a little more sex appeal.
No other dramas as yet""
Excellent – I would recommend these to anyone. The Bob Jane pricing on these belies the quality. I replaced my dealer fit steel wheels and 175/13 Goodyear GT3's (which were passable) on my super Mitsubishi Colt and the 195/15 Maxxis tyres have transformed the car in terms of performance, comfort and ride quality. I love these tyres and I feel very safe with… Read more
them, in all conditions, especially in the wet. Excellent grip in all conditions, quiet, smooth, have driven 25,000kms on these and they have barely started to wear. Excellent value for money
Excellent – Overall these tyres are excellent, handle great in the wet, corners can be taken at fairly high speeds with confidence, tyres hand rim protector feature which helps prevent damage from driving up a gutter on the road (i proved this works) and they look very sporty. Overall a great tyre and i highly recommend to everyone. The Maxxis MA-V1 are… Read more
really great value, these tyres hold to the road like glue, sturdy tyres, seem to last longer than other brands, they look great Tyre noise is slightly noticeable and the steering feels a slight bit heavier (i changed from 15" to 17") but once you get used to it it's fine

I replaced these tyres a few months ago and found as others have that the inner sidewalls were badly cracked. Would definitely stay away from them.
