BEST BUY, FIRST CLASS MACHINE – When it was time to replace our ageing GE machine, we wandered around multiple laundrettes to see what machines they used, and almost without exception, they used either Snow Queen or Maytag. We therefore purchased the Maytag MAF1300AAW and have had nothing but total satisfaction with it for the last nine years. Purchased from Retravision Wendoree… Read more

Vic (now closed) for $950 we could not have chosen a better machine, a pity that it's no longer available

Regards to the last review written! – Ahh, I'm not sure if you opened your eyes when you were using the previous Maytag washing machine but there's a start/pause button right near the door so yes you can stop the machine and through more clothing in also on the display panel it not only keeps the actual (clock) time but tells you how long the wash is set for and below that it tells… Read more

you how long is left until wash is finished as well as its an interactive display so when you turn it on it says welcome to Maytag and also says at the end of the cycle your clothes are ready to take out, now I'm not sure how many programs you want but the Maytag maf1300aaw has 29 separate programs which can be altered by 7 different sets of options I know that's more than enough for me. I've had mine for over 9 years not one problem, it would seem that people complaining about these machines leaking water through the soap drawer and going through water pumps need to open the drain plug at the base of the machine and clean out whatever is in there as it only takes a 5cent coin or something small that may have been left in your pockets to jam the propeller on the water pump as for the soap drawer issue turn the tap down a bit to allow less water to flow in or get regulated water pipes which some washers are brought out with problem solved! And one last thing yes there a little loud if you don't turn the spin cycle down who needs there clothes spun at 1300RPM I run mine at 800RPM and there's no noise and clothes are still sufficiently spun! I see a lot of bad reviews about this machine but have noticed no one has said that the motors have crap themselves that's because there made to last GO MAYTAG!!

replacing maytag – we did not repair this time as bushes in motor had worn and blew whole machine. We were not completely happy with rinsing cycles and so loud. Replaced with simpson 7kg and so much better. more programmes, cleaner, fresher clothes and can use softener etc. on all loads and magic of magic if you forget that item you can stop, open door, put item… Read more

in and resume . it also gives time for each cycle and clock counts down, something I had not had before. An unexpected expense but a satisfactory outcome. valmac

Excitement of owning a "Maytag!!!" went from a 10 to a 0 within 3 years – First thing to go, front bottom panel (left side back clip) broke while gently removing to it clean out filter. Second, fast wash cycle could not be used anymore due to machine not being able to get past 'thinking stage' once that was cycle was selected, it just made weird noises and that was it. Third, detergent dispense drawer was always… Read more

clogging up no matter how often it was cleaned out, at this point now it wont dispense the conditioner during most washers. Forth, can not use spin faster than 1000 or it tries to thump across the floor (yes it is balanced) Fifth, door has developed a crack even though I have always been careful to distribute the pressure of my hand over door when closing. Six, noticed rust had started to push paint off lower left hand side corner, on closer inspection discovered entire front left side down to corner from top to bottom and across front of machine was rusted out, door latches are now also rusting. Seven, constantly cleaning inside door seal due to an orange mould. Had this machine 5yrs now and have only used front loader detergents, plus have always left door open when not in use. There is only 2 adults and one child worth of clothes etc that have needed to washed by this unit, therefore it is used for 1 or 2 washes every couple of days. 3 days ago machine drum stopped turning, belt is fine so looks like motor needs replacing. Energy efficient until fast wash stopped working, Water wise. Has always been very hard to find a qualified repair person in this area which adds to repair costs/time.

Just junk – We have had this washer for around 6 years and we have been lucky, have nursed this through pump fixes and hardware problems. For a machine that cost over 2k at the time!!!! First problem was the pump failed, repair guy simple glued the impeller as the pump would have cost over $100. This failed after 1 week and was a constant source of fixing… Read more

over the next few years. Finally I swapped over the two pumps and it seemed to fix the problem. Then constant electronic glitches which seems to fix themselves after a few days. Sometimes the screen would fail, sometimes it just would not start

Well now its totally dead, lights and display are up but start button just not working, tried everything pulled it apart, pulled out the motherboard found some cracked solder joins fixed them all up still non functional button.

Replacing with a samsung - never going near whirlpool or maytag ever again. Would make a great boat anchor

Has done the job, – We have had this machine for about 9 years. over all its done the job, but we did expect better from Maytag. this machine will have to last a few more years before been replaced. We use the clicks on the dial to determine the wash cycle as the screen has gone blank. Maytag are no longer available in Aust. so repairs in the future may be an… Read more

Reasonably happy – After owning this front loader machine for 5 years, it developed a very loud knocking, vibrating sound while on the spin cycle. It was so loud you could still hear it outside the house. I thought the problem was with the shock absorbers, but once I turned it upside down, I found that the concrete block attached to the tub by 3 long bolts had… Read more ·  1

worked loose. It was simply a 5 minute job to tighten them back up again, and the machine is as good as new again. Saved me $$$$ fixing it myself instead of getting a repairman or buying a new machine.

Otherwise, machine does what it says, and I'm happy with that. Here's hoping for at least another 5 years of use out of it. Maytag are meant to be the Rolls Royce of washing machines. Washes clothes, does what it's told Maytag no longer sell domestic washers in Australia

Terrible – Never, ever again will I buy Maytag - gets one star only because there is no option to give it 0 The noise it makes when you push it off the back of your trailer into landfill... Reliabilty is shocking, slow and expensive to get repaired, wash performance average at best, door seal get moldy if you don't wipe it after every load, coins (I know… Read more

your not supposed to wash then, but sometimes you miss them when checking pockets) get stuck in the drain pipe before they reach the button trap and the machine needs to be disassembled to remove them - very poor design.

Terrible – I would hope this machine is no longer on the market for sale, if it is and you buy one, you could not only be paying a fortune for a washing machine, but paying a fortune in repairs, unfortunately I had to give this a rating of one, I dont believe it is worth that. This has put me off front loader washing machines for life. Water efficient -… Read more

however in saying that my clothes never seemed that clean on the fast cycle Oh do I have a list, 3 times I have had the memory board replaced, I am looking at replacing another after yesterdays episode. I clean the filter regulary, however the hoses were blocked further up, causing it to over flow and water to seep out from the top and door, this then went into the cupboard drawers which we had especially made to accomodate the front loader, could not get the machine to drain, had to find a small hose to loosen lint which was trapped (possibly a scew has also dislodged from the machine as we have a loose part on the drum). Then the memory board was stuck of special programme paused, this morning when I had a look there is just a bunch of boxes and no writing on the display. (yes for a six year old machine is it worth replacing yet another memory board). A few years ago it actually spun so hard that it fell off the cupboard and hit the linen cupboard causing damage (thankful no children standing underneath) we had to place a non slip mat and aluminium strip in front of the legs so that it would not bounce forward. The machine takes a long time to do a standard wash at least over 1 to 2 hours, some cycles even longer (absolutely ridiculous). Short cylcle which is just less than 30 min does not seem to clothes properly unless you have a very small load. Oh and I nearly forgot for some reason when I wash my towels they come out like sheets of cement when they dry, unless I buty them in my trusty dryer which is not a maytag.

Terrible – PLEASE don't waste your $$$. Serioulsy get your head examined if you choose this or keep your wallet open and never leave unattended not a lot although I wanted to review a MAF 1200 AAW, perhaps they no longer inflict this model on the general public? most everything. We bought this machine after we came in to a little extra cash and thought we'd… Read more

upgrade from a perfectly working 15yr old Hoover top loader to a front loader for the less water environmental factor and my husband was swayed by the clever sales pitch that included the line "Maytag machines are usually found in laundrymats". So the Maytag it was. Never liked the fact the after the load was started you couldn't add the stray sock that inevitably turned up after you had hit the start button. But learnt to look harder before starting on wash day. The cycle length was insanely long even on the short cycle. No longer did I have a "wash" day cos I would be there all day, and so trained myself to wash a load a day which overcame this problem somewhat.

Big issue was the noise factor during spinning. OMG It spins @ 1200RPM which makes your clothes dry, but seriously my neighbours thought I had a helicopter landing in my laundry every time i washed and with a shift working husband i could never wash while he was trying to sleep which was my weekend and when I had time to do it. The machine was perfectly balanced but still so noisy. Was told that because the house was on stumps/floorboards was the reason for the noise and I would need to cut the floor and lay a concrete slab to put the machine on, to get rid of the noise. I don't think so, that side of the house is 1.2 mts off the ground.

We had the machine about 4mths when the 1st issue arrived. Went to wash one day and water started escaping from the detergent drawer all over the laundry. Serviceman eventually came and we discovered that the front loader detergent I had been using was not rinsing down in to the machine every time and a solid 4 inch "plug" had developed in the hose thus blocking it. Was told to use hot water wash (we changed to liquids or predisolving powder before adding to the machine. Apparently because it span so fast the water jet was dislodged during the spin cycle thus rendering it ineffective.

But the straw came just recently when the machine was just 6 yrs old, and we had extended the warranty out to 5 yrs button quite long enough to cover our not working lemon! To cut a long story short we put on a load and while we were home the machine caught fire. We were lucky as I was in the habit of putting on a load and going out, if we had done this I have no doubt our house would have burned for sure. I am totally not impressed with the money I spent on this machine but couldn't justify getting another while it was working, but thankfully now it is dead I can try again with anything other than a Maytag and back to a front loader

Terrible – Unreliable over the long term, and not worth the money spent. Buy something else if you want a good long lasting machine It worked ok for at least a little while Unreliable, belt broke after 6months, then several failing parts, both electronic boards, motor, door spring

Just regarding the water leak problem at the front – The water leak problem that some have mentioned which appears at the door comes from the detergent draw and is caused by water pressure being too high. I had to put the water pressure extremely low to basically just on and that stopped the problem. It is difficult to catch this problem as you can stand there and watch it and it often doesnt do it till the rinse cycle. But the water pressure is where this problem originates.

Terrible – I will never buy another Maytag product ever because of the service repair provider they engage in my area. I am now in the throes of finding another brand that will hopefully last me at least 5 years. Nothing worth writing about. It washed my clothes when it was working. The LED failed during the manufacturers warranty, too awhile to fix up. The service provided in this area was less than desirable.

Terrible – I will never be buying any Maytag product again. They are not built to last and the overall service is nothing short of disgusting. Very Low water consumption The service you receive when something needs fixing under warranty. I washed a coin (as you do) and this got lodged in the inner and outer bowl resulting in both being replaced at my expense… Read more

as well as a new door seal after only 6 months of use. A selling point of the machine was that foreign objects would end up in the filter catchment which was definately not the case. Now i am stuck with a machine which sounds like a jet taking off and my husband had to fix the door which fell off when one of the hinges came off.

Good – Overall im happy with the machine. the 1300RPM Spin Speeds cuts drying time in half. Always owned Maytag and they have always been fantastic machines, this is no exception. Good – I have had this exact same Maytag for 4 years now and have never had any mechanical problems with it. It has great performance for washing and spin drying and by selecting extra rinse or max load, it is great for rinsing towels. The gentle cycles work well too. The only thing I dont like is that when I select a number on the dial the electronic… Read more

screen doesn't always register it. I simply turn the power off and on again and it works fine.

I realise that Maytag does not make this particular machine anymore and now they are owned by Whirlpool, but I am still happy with it and wanted to share this review. It seems that people only post on these forums when they have had a really bad experience or they are escstatically in love with their new purchase. It can be hard to get an unbaised opinion.

Basically I am happy with the washing machine and as a person that washes properly (ie checks pockets and sorts colours, washes towels seperately etc.) I am sure that my next washing machine should perform well too. Fairly quick, low water consumption and dry clothes. Sometimes the electronics want to do their own thing.
