10 Months in a 2023 Mazda CX30 – Firstly the things I loved. Style, great looking car, interior is a nice level of subtle & dash wonderfully free of clutter. Instrument cluster looks nice & it has comfy seats, driving position & a great feeling steering wheel. Now the things I wasn't so keen on. The car is under powered, made worse by a drive by wire accelerator. Should have tons… Read more

of go with 2.5l but it's just flat, if you drive it hard, it becomes noisy which is a shame. Fuel economy with careful combined driving gets 9.0 l / 100 km, combine that with 45l tank size & there are constant stops to fill up. Info system is highly frustrating, the high level screen is good for vision but the input relys on a jog button to select each letter in a street name for navigation. The rotating button looks good but if you don't spell the name correctly, back to square 1. Resorting to voice input was even worse, the system never once understood my instruction & I ended up resorting to.Android Auto. Mazda need to revisit the voice recognition, it was nowhere near as good as the car this one replaced which was an 8 year old Ford which got at least 90% of voice command correct. Overall the CX30 is a lovely car spoiled by a couple of things that just aren't thought through well enough. Frustrated enough to move on from the car, disappointed that I now miss out on the positives of it.

Turbo would be nice! – Love everything about the car. Disappointed it is not available with a Turbo in Australia, as I am used to having one in my last 5 cars. Loved my Mazda CX7 turbo, but was disappointed when they discontinued that model. Happier driving a smaller SUV now, and the latest tech is nice. Bit too sensitive in the safety warning department, but good to have it anyway. Hoping they bring the Turbo version to Australia by the time I need to trade it in. Show details

  CX-30 AWD G25 Astina

Premium – Solid feeling and well finished city SUV. 45,000km in 2 years. Regular highway cruising. Bought due to excellent safety rating. Astina has adaptive headlights which make night driving a luxury. AWD gives great wet weather stability. Serviced every 10,000km. Fuel economy seems to improve as car settles in. Nil recalls. Overall, very pleasing. Show details

One of the least reliable cars I have owned in 55 years! – I came to this car from a Mazda 6, but the exchange has been horrendous. In just two months of its life, the car has required two callouts for a flat battery, and this made me late for two appointments! At the 1,000 K service the dealer left the cap off the washer reservoir. FAiR DINKUM!!! This car is one of the least reliable machines I have… Read more

ever been associated with in 55 years. Come on Mazda, own up and fix the problem (please). From my perspective this is an absolute disgrace,

Quality Interior, Quiet Cabin, Capable AWD System, Disappointing Ride Quality – Used 3 to 4 times per week, 2/3 Highway km with some unsealed roads and work sites, 1/3 Suburban. with 17000 km driven to date. The positives... This vehicle is quiet on the highway with not too much road noise on coarse chip asphalt. The steering feel is excellent and acceleration is acceptable for overtaking with some planning ahead. The fuel… Read more

consumption is averaging 7.2 l/100km when driven moderately. The consumption is reducing over time as it does more k's. The AWD system is capable and has provided good traction on muddy slopes and copes well with the diagonally opposed wheel being unloaded provided the terrain mode is selected. Braking feel is excellent. Unlike most other small crossovers, the braking force required is not excessively light and allows braking to be controlled accurately. Cabin build quality is overall excellent. There have been a couple of buzzes and squeaks in the cabin. One was fixed by the dealer, the other one disappeared by itself. The method of controlling the infotainment system using the shuttle wheel and shortcut keys is excellent when on the move as you can keep eyes on the road. An ability to use it via touchscreen when stopped would be nice... When passing a speed limit sign the speed limit adjusts in the head up display. With one button press on the steering wheel I can set the speed limiter value to this speed limit plus a user configurable margin (I use 5 km/h). The car will then start reducing the accelerator as it approaches the speed limit but still allows me to drive with the speedo reading slightly above the posted limit to allow for speedo error. If increased speed is required in an emergency, full accelerator pedal overrides the limiter. This is a great feature.

Now the negatives...

A crossover like this with more suspension travel and AWD should have a more compliant ride than the equivalent Mazda 3 sedan, however the rise quality is inconsistent and varies noticeably with changes in tyre pressure and ambient temperature and in can be inferior to our 2016 Mazda 3 Astina sedan. The dealership tightened up some bolts on the suspension at the last service which as expected did not improve the ride. This vehicle would be unsuitable for regular use on corrugated or pot-holed roads. Maybe fitting 16" wheels and tyres from the base model would help. The cruise control allows excessive speed variation of up to +-5km/h in hilly terrain. It also brakes hard when someone overtaking moves across even when they are moving away from you with a good speed differential. Other systems (eg VW Tiguan) have a much better cruise control calibration. The CTS (Cruising and Traffic Support) system often fails to operate when the sun is within the forward camera field of view which makes the feature useless if your regular commute requires driving into the sun. Other vehicles (eg VW Tiguan) do not have this deficiency. With the rear seats folded forward, the centre console cannot be slid back and opened unless the centre head rest is removed from the rear seat. The OEM 12V starter battery had to be replaced at the 10,000 km service.

  CX-30 AWD G25 Astina

Great car – I have the opposite review to the first review and not sure if it’s even a real review as G20 Astina does not have cylinder deactivation and the cx30 is not a suv it’s a crossover , only the 2.5 litre Mazda engines from 2018 onwards have CD unless they are turbo then that engine doesn’t have it. Fortunately all my bells and whistles work as they… Read more

should , no issues yet , traveled 8500 klms and fuel economy combined is 7.7 litres per 100klms , about 70% short runs to work and 30% highway. On long highway trips doing speed limit 110 I’m getting 5.5 litres per 100 klms . I turned of lane assist as don’t want it or need it. My cylinder deactivation works perfectly as does my radar cruise control, no vibration at any speed but I know some have this issue. The interior is comfortable and classy. My only 2 gripes are sunglasses holder is way too small and instrument cluster plastic panel is easily scratched as plastic is too soft. Overall the performance is good however my previous Mazda 3 2017 sp25 manual seemed to have more power and better low down torque even though it’s the same size motor. I have used the AWD traction mode on some very crappy ,steep , wet , badly deep rutted dirt roads and l was very impressed. I actually like the black plastic cladding , better to scratch this then paintwork on some of the crap roads I go down to check the surf. This car serves me well in all departments and I’m very happy I purchased. It’s not for everyone but suits me. The new informant system is a lot quicker than previous and voice activation for navigation and phone calls is very good. The Bose sound system is also very good and speaker placement is excellent , it sounds like a band is playing live in front of me lol. If I had my way I would have turbo on this model and no cylinder deactivation as not sure what this does to life of motor.
