Roomy, Reliable and Efficient – 2017 Honda HRV VTI-S have used it for almost 7 years now and it has not missed a beat. It lives up to Hondas reputation of being a reliable car. It has got massive boot space and the ride is quite comfortable too. The original batteries had to be replaced almost after 5 years of use and the tyres were replaced at year 7 although it could still… Read more

have gone a further 4k or 5k kms more. Fuel consumption is economical at around 6.5 to 7.5 liters per 100 km in the city and is even better at country driving with almost 5.5 liters per 100km on cruise control.

This may not be the best car in its segment but is definitely reliable and not as pricey as it's competitors. The tech is not all that great and yeah it's not a race car so don't expect the world out of it. Good little compact car with massive boot space.

Honda HR-V RS 2019 touch screen is a safety issue and dangerous to drive – One of the biggest let-downs of our 2019 Honda HR-V RS is the awful 7.0-inch touchscreen, which really represents a safety issue. The touch interface is slow to react to inputs, our GPS system frequently fails to find a signal, and the worst thing and safety issue that the touch screen is glaring constantly, even if the sun is mild, we can't see… Read more

the screen or what the rear camera displays onto the screen. We can't use GPS because of this and have to use the GPS on our phone instead. We have narrowly escaped few accidents because could not see the image on the screen. We have contacted the dealer but they said that this is the way it is and suggested to contact Honda directly. We have paid $35,850 for this car but feel unsafe to drive it as it is - very dangerous issue that reverse camera, navigation etc totally unreadable in sunlight. The reviews by other customers confirm our concern is valid. The review on Honda HR-V RS 2019 review by CarsGuide confirms this too. Very stressful to drive this car and not be able to use the basic systems, and we will definitely follow the dealer's advice to contact Honda directly, as we consider this to be a warranty issue. (I believe that Honda has now replaced these faulty screens in the newer models, and hope that Honda as responsible manufacturer will look after customers whose cars have been fitted with unusable touch screens). Please share your experience if have the same issues, thank you.

Bought a new Honda HRV in late 2016. In 2021 during 50k service a transmission oil leak was confirmed by Honda dealer. Vehicle still in warranty at this time.Action was to monitor. At next service the leak was again confirmed and leak was supposedly remedied by replacing transmission housing seal (2023) at a cost to me of $960 as the vehicle was… Read more

now out of warranty. 16 months later (2025) there is still an oil leak this time the Honda dealer says that the leak is due to porosity of the transmission housing casting. From a literature search, it appears that the cracking evident in the photos is due to a defective casting process, a phenomenum know as "rats tails", this is not something which develops in time, it is a manufacturing defect caused by incorrect temperature control during the casting process. QAQC processes should prevent defective components like this one being used. Honda Australia have been contacted about supplying a replacement transmission and they have refused. A case has now been raised with consumer protection so we shall see how this progresses. Update - After Honda Australia was contacted by Consumer Protection they agreed that the fault was not due to wear and tear and agreed to pay for the repairs. I should not have needed to refer this case to Consumer Protection as logic and common sense should have prevailed!!

Easy to live with – I purchased this car from Formula Honda Modbury and have waited one year before reviewing this car incase it turned out to be crap. Surprisingly it is a good car. The best thing about it is maneuverability and fuel economy. I find the seats extremely comfortable and plenty of leg room in any of the seats. The luggage area is exceptional, quite a… Read more ·  1

bit more than my previous car namely a Honda Jazz GF hatchback. If I could complain about anything it would be the rear suspension seems to skip about on undulating roads, but after reading a forum of enthusiasts they put it down to hard rear suspension and remedied it by reducing the rear tyre pressure by about 6 to 8 pounds and resetting the monitoring system on the car so it don't alarm. I easily get 6.9 litres per 100k, and on a long run it actually goes as low as 5. I have had no issues with the car and would happily recommend to anyone who wanted an economical small SUV with a stack of luggage space

Rust Issues in 2021 model – Noticed Rust in the bonnet of my HR-V when it was just over a 1yr old (original owner from brand new). Notified Honda (dealership and Honda Australia) and heard nothing. I continued to chance it up. Honda are trying to say that it was caused from stone chips, which is really funny considering it is blistering from underneath the paint work, plus… Read more

there are no stone chips in my bumper! Also, if this was the case then why is it now in rear quarter panel, drivers door and the turret (roof)? Many panel beaters have also said this was NOT caused by stone chips! They got PPG (their paint supplier) to write a report saying it was caused from stone chips from a couple of photos THEY wanted them to see and sent through, so they didn't get the full picture, nor did they view the vehicle in person (as I'm in a different state). I contacted PPG and asked how they could 100% say that the rust was caused from stone chips and they said they can't - as I already know! The PPG report writer also agreed with me (which i have in writing). They also admitted that Honda is their customer, so of course they are going to write anything on paper for their customer. Honda just want to get out of their warranty! Honda, why aren't you taking responsibility? I guess this might end up in court. I've owned plenty of brand new and older cars (multiple makes and models) and NOT one of them has had any rust....you'd expect an older car that might have a stone chip to possibly end up with a little bit of rust, but NOPE, NO RUST in any of my cars, except this 2yr old one! You generally buy a Honda thinking you are buying quality, but I couldn't be more wrong! I will never recommend nor buy another Honda in my life and will let others know about the issues I've had. P.S. The photos are recent so there has been plenty of time for the corrosion to worsen from when it was originally report to Honda over a year ago.

A Wonderfully Comfortable and Fuel Efficient vehicle – Like many people we liked the idea of an electric vehicle but felt the time wasn't quite right for that big move. Having owned two Honda Accords we were impressed by their… Read more

reliability and comfort. The Honda HRV Hybrid was ordered last May and we (finally) received it in in February. It's a smaller car with a smaller engine but suits two people perfectly. It has a1.5 Litre (12498cc) engine and takes 91 grade fuel. The engine switches automatically from petrol to electric automatically and seemlessly. We've been surprised by how much it uses the battery on flat ground or gentle slopes. So the saving on petrol has been marked. Another feature (amongst many) is the extra automatic gear for going down a hill. It slows the car down to a suitable speed and also recharges the battery at the same time. Some other safety features are lane change warnings and the one I really like is the "blind spot" warning in the side mirror-a light comes on when a car is in that position just coming up beside you. The size of the navigation screen is excellent. The sound system is superb and will link into your iPhone or Android phone quickly. DAB radio stations can be played-another great feature , I thought. So , to sum up-highly recommended. It won't suit a family but for two people it's "just right".

7 years and still amazing – I got it brand new 7 years ago and I can't be happier. Yes, it might not have all the gadgets but it very reliable. And speaking of gadgets, that camera in left mirror saved me multiple times. And I test drove a few new cars ( different brands) recently and this feature wasn't available and I don't know if I can live without it. And speaking of reliability, only thing I replaced was a battery last year. Will buy it again. 100% Show details

A love-hate relationship – Bought my first Honda, new, in 2016. Love lots about my HRV - the magic seats, comfort, electronic handbrake, boot space, fuel economy etc. A few things have been less than ideal: The paintwork is not very high quality - stone chips start to rust immediately. Initially had a very loud rattle in the front dash that took 3 visits to service… Read more

department to fix. The battery died within the warranty period, & was itemised in the warranty agreement to be covered for half the cost, but took Honda a whole day to agree that they'd cover half the cost of a new battery ( I paid labour) - meanwhile I had no car to drive. Driver's window leaks every time I go through the car wash. When the car was 5 1/2 years old & out of warranty, as I turned right across a busy highway, the dash lights lit up & the car went into limp mode - tow truck took it to Honda dealer. Was told the next day that the gear box needed replacing - at a cost of over $11 000. The dealer / service division offered to contact Honda to see if they would cover part of the cost. Update: After I supplied requested service paperwork & they considered the situation for 2 weeks, Honda agreed to pay for parts for a new transmission if I paid labour. It took 2 weeks for the transmission to arrive from Melbourne & then a further 2 weeks for another part to be sourced (Xmas & covid had a part role to play in this 2 week delay). Job completed - was without my vehicle for 10 weeks, during which time I needed to hire a car to get to work.

OVERPRICED for what you get – Car is used daily for short trips, shops doctor etc. Car is serviced per book. Have found the car to be good but expensive compared to competitors prices. My main complaint would center on servicing by the Honda dealer and the lack of urgency is repairing their own recalls. The last recall required me to make numerous calls to Honda to get action on the recall which I found very disappointing. Show details

Disappointing for a Honda – This is the 3rd Honda we have owned and, sadly, it is nowhere near the quality of our previous Hondas. Had a rattle in the dash from day 1 and when I reported it when it was being serviced they told me new car warranty doesn't cover rattles. Really? After a brief discussion they changed their mind and said it was covered. Fors: 1.Great fuel… Read more

economy and reasonable level of power. 1.8 ltr motor. 2. When you indicate left, camera shows on entertainment screen any cars beside you. Great safety feature. Against: 1. There is no lumbar support in drivers seat so can become uncomfortable on a long trip. Disappointing on an up market RS model. 2. Entertainment /Sat Nav screen slopes towards windscreen making it very difficult to see on a sunny day. Lots of sun in Australia so very annoying when reversing or changing lanes. 3. Touch screen very slow to respond as you move from one item to another i.e. after using sat nav or phone you have to wait a couple of minutes to get it to return to radio. Told this was normal for this system. 4. When accelerating (even gently) gearbox sometimes clunks into gear and jerks the car. When reported was told this is normal for HRV cvt gearbox. 5. Coolant level can't be seen in overflow tank. Previous Hondas had a plastic dip stick so you could check level of coolant but HRV doesn't have this. Level can't be seen even with torch as it is too low in engine bay. I asked, when being serviced, how I can check coolant level. Told it is best to put it up on hoist and look from underneath as it can be seen from there? Yeah sure, everyone has a hoist at home for their car! This is a poor design fault because as the car gets older you will need to check coolant level more often and this vehicle has no temp gauge and by the time the warning light comes on it is usually too late to prevent damage to the engine. 6. Car had surface rust around tailgate bolts and hinges within 12 months. Showed Honda service department and all they did was sand it back. Then told me they couldn't touch up as they couldn't get touch up paint for it. Said they would ring me when they had some. I contacted them a couple of times to follow up but they never got back to me or returned my calls. So rust came back quickly. 7. Honda have changed all their dealerships and closed many of them. So if you want genuine Honda service you may have to travel quite a distance to your nearest Honda dealer. We have now sold this car after a little over 3 years. Would have been sooner but had to wait 11 months for new car to arrive. And it is a Toyota, not a Honda. Cabin noise level of Honda was much higher than Toyota too. Would not recommend this model for the price.

over all the time so we miss turns, speaker cuts out but can’t predict when. Radio is always on when we start the car, not what you want if you have sleeping children. Dealership says it’s up to us to remember to keep it turned down at the volume. Also media screen awkwardly placed making it tricky to use temp controls Door trim is fabric, soooo regret not noticing in the dealership, $36,000 is too much for the quality of the car. Also, regret not noticing how hard it was to see out the back, vision is obscured. It has a camera for left lane changes, but that’s useless in the dark and not being able to see properly is harrowing. Air con isn’t very cold Car in general gets very hot very quickly. Even if it’s only parked for a few minutes on a mild day. The wheel burns our hands. The boot often takes 2 goes to close properly We were so looking forward to being Honda owners, not any more.

2021 model suddenly slows at highway doesn’t accelerate – Had this problem multiple time and while driving it’s just slows down giving all alerts on the dash, like check EP, VR , engine Sign, break hold , blinking parking break panicking the driver. Happen to me multiple time on freeway. However took exit and shown to a mechanic stopped giving those warnings. Drove again to the freeway after 10 minutes same alerts. Not once multiple times and it’s a fairly new car. Show details

An absolute dream to drive – I love my leather interior and sunroof. Servuced regularly and quute good on fuel with regular city driving. Drives well, great space especially as the back seats fold upwards giving room to transport taller items. Only problem is the light warning for the control keeps saying battery needs to be replaced, but it doesn't. It's intermittent so I've learned to live with it. Aside from that I can't fault this beautiful car. Show details

few gripes, however. It can be as little underpowered on the open road when going up hills and is sometimes slow to change down to a lower gear. The AV display/reversing camera is the worst feature. It is angled upwards so that in sunlight it is almost impossible to see. This is particularly annoying for the reversing camera, which is only really useful in underground car parks or on cloudy days.
