Maze 160L Roto Twin Tumbler Questions & Answers
VerifiedMPN: MCT-D160-V2Can I purchase the front panel with the doors? It broke during winter when there was ice built us and someone must have forced it open.
Deliberating whether to get 160 pr 245 litre. From reviews seems 160lotre has issues with getting too wet, maggots and trying to get compost out of barrel. Are there similar issues with 245 litre?
Hi Deb I have the 160L - it produces great compost. If the contents are too wet you need to add more dry eg shredded paper, leaves or sugar cane mulch or similar. It is difficult to get the compost out so if I were buying one now I would get the 180 or 245L one with bigger openings and a turning handle as the 160 is at times difficult to turn. The bigger one would be good if you have lots of kitchen scraps there are only 2 of us here
Like Susi W, I have found in relation to the rod that runs through the middle, the screws on the bolts only screw up part of the way as well. Could someone please confirm if this is correct or not? Thank you.
Hi Caro. I just bought this same composter from Bunnings. The nuts for those two long screws that hold the rod through the middle of the composter in place are “locking” nuts. In other words they have a plastic liner in them that compresses and sticks the nut in place so that it doesnt unscrew on its own. It will take a little more effort, but i would get a spanner and tighten them all the way up to the rod. Cheers, jeff
Thanks so much, Jeff. I used pliers and it worked a treat. Thanks again.
We assembled the composter but, in relation to the rod that runs through the middle, the screws on the bolts only screwed up part of the way. Is this right, please?

Thanks, Jeff, appreciated.
Can I take out the divider on this model and use it as one barrel? Also, does the open doors detach, so they dont run into the legs when turning upside down to empty? Looks like they are wider than the frame when open Thankyou
Yes, you can remove the divider (but then why not buy one large barrel to start with instead of paying more for a double?) and yes the doors slide out completely, but it will still be difficult to empty as the doors are too small.
Hi Leanne, as Lily mentioned you can take it out if you need one full drum. There are larger horizontal tumblers available if you need. For example our 245L tumbler has a divider which can be removed as well and it has much larger doors. If you have any more questions please feel free to call us tomorrow to discuss.
I thought I would start with one as a double barrel, but at times when I have got a lot of waste, I thought I can maybe go to two systems and use them as a large barrel each. But if the doors are too small for this it might not be a good idea...
Hi Leanne, it is good to always have two batches going. one that you are filling and one that is cooking. Otherwise when you need the single batch to start maturing you need to stop adding to it. During this period you will need a second unit. Does that make sense?
What can I put into my maze roto twin composter 160L Can i put in raw or cooked fish heads and soil and plane tree leaves I don't have lawn just a small garden so what other greens When I open the container lots of little bugs fly out I add Bokashiu
I wouldnt put fish in. I think it would probably be extremely smelly. The little insects are probably vinegar flies. They are harmless.
Why does my compost shape into round balls? Is this inevitable because of the tumbling action?
Hi Lily, yes this often happens with compost tumblers due to the rotating action. It does not slow the process down but you can break them up with a small trowel or your hands.
Thanks for your lightning quick response! Good to know that it's not caused by something I'm doing wrong.
