Awesome machine – Hi can there, can you modify the engine by putting bigger & better engine ? I brought 2010 model & it hasn't disappointed me at all but it has no power at all but hoping to get some opinion about upgrading the engine Show details
Don't buy one of these – This mower "McCullock Mowcart 66" failed to mow the lawn 5 times. It keeps dropping the drive chain off every 5 minutes. No one seems to be able to repair it. Total piece of junk. I've tried contacting McCullock many times but that seems to be impossible. DON'T BUY A McCULLOCK - they are crap. Show details
Not worth the money paid for – After owning a mowcart 66 for 2 years, I scrapped it as the drive would no longer propel the mower. Seriously would not recommend this mower to anybody. McCullough is off my shopping list. Show details

I love my Mowcart! – Researching the mowcart is hard. As opinions differ. I found many negative comments and not too many positives. But thought why would bunnings and the like keep selling them. After you tubing many clips on how to repair things like steering, creeping forward in neutral, slow or no reverse, falling to bits, not starting.....The list of negativity… Read more · 1
intrigued me. It baffled me why they would be sold! I found a beautiful little cart 2 yrs old with about 25 hrs on clock. Picked her up in hattonvale qld mid dec 14 for $850 which included spare cutting blade ,heavy little nudge bar and terrific catcher set up. Was told reverse was very slow.
Got it home all excited, unloaded her to find reverse was nearly non existent crept forward in nuetral uneven cut, tight steering! Being the positive person i am called dad. (dads fix everything, at least mine does coz at 88 yo, he is an old time dad that can fix things)
Recalling all my positive you tubing we proceeded to remove the mulching kit and the belt cover coz that's about all there is to remove...Like people have said easy to work on. Adjusted the gear lever nut (you know the nut with the washer that has teeth...Nearly bit me) coz that's why they don't reverse and creep in nuetral. Fitted the cutting blade as the mulching blade was on it. Levelled the cutting deck with the other adjustment available. Oiled the steering arm joints. Even adjusted the cute little brake pads. Put the belt cover on , the plate on the back , fitted the mulching kit and even attached the cute little nudge bar (that would contribute to levelling of deck)that comes with the mulching kit but have never seen photographed in any ads.
Anyway my little mowcart does a beautiful job of my kykuiya lawn has levelled my lawn beautifully wher there were a few uneven spots, nice little turning circle easy catcher set up to empty (even has the little wheel that you turn which means it's not ready to empty!)
The motor is powerful enough for what i need don't even get into 2nd.
For those wanting to flog a machine up hills over sticks and rocks and try to mow 1 to 5 acres you need a lawn tractor.....Not a riding mower which is what this machine is. If you have a lovely home garden and want to mow 1/2 acre without pushing or walking behind a mower i would absolutely reccomend it. They are a cheaply built little mower but if you look after it and see how things can be adjusted you will be happy.
My friction wheel has some wear, but can be purchased as a unit with the whole shaft etc...But am looking into just getting the wheel from u.S.A but would imagine not for a while. A tip re friction wheel....If yr mower is moving there is no way your friction wheel is the problem as that's what moves yr mower....It is all just in slight adjustments that the mower is amply equipped with.
Anyway hopes this helps people to make a decision on whether or not this little riding mower is for you. As a female who loves tinkering and respecting goods i buy i am happy.
Cheap nasty piece of rubbish - masters terrible customer service! – Do not buy this! Especially do not buy this from masters hardware!! My father bought this a year ago and after about 5 hours of use the spindle broke apart got it fixed by masters/mcculloch's local agent in yamanto and after 3 months finally got it back only to be charged $380 being told it was because of the way he drove it! So much for… Read more
being under warranty... (my father has been mowing his 2 acre property for over 20 years with no problem...)
Then, within a month of being "fixed" the spindle belt kept flying off! A part was lost during all this bull82! And he had to fix it himself due to not getting a refund and not wanting to fork out for more repairs! Warranty??? Masters are a greedy mob and have no idea of customer service.
This is the worst purchase you could ever invest in.
A friend bought the same rideon at bunnings and got an immediate refund and an apology... Masters hardware is not worth your business and mcculloch's design faulty equipment to make your life more stressful, you'll be lucky to get a month of this machine working properly and paying over $1000 for it, is like throwing it down the toilet, much better to save and get a trusted brand from a trusted dealer..
McCulloch Mowcart 66 – The McCulloch Mowcart 66 is way better than the American "weedeater 1 " All the bugbears seem to have been sorted out for the Aussie market . The McCulloch Mowcart 66 has a metal steering adapter and solid steel steering arms unlike the" Weedeater 1" which had plastic steering adapters and rolled steel steering arms which tended to bend. Briggs motor starts first click of the starter and only needs two fingers to manually pull start it. The lack of a manual throttle seems strange at first but the auto governor works great,, so a manual throttle is not really needed.
The seating is very comfy and has far more leg room than the tractor versions. The mower seems to have reasonable power and gets the job done very well indeed.
Very good for not a lot of money and certainly perfect for a suburban house block. Good leg room , easy to start very sweet little engine , mows well , great on fuel, steers on a dime. Friction disc drive onto a rubber wheel is not the best drive system to use .. I can not see it lasting all that well time will tell.

Never had a problem brilliant, starts first time – Bought this ride on mower 8 year ago and it’s been faultless, has the best Briggs and Stratton engine so what more could you want. My neighbour has one too. Show details
brake cable broken – hello i have a issue with the brake cable its broken and im not sure how to put it back together mainly just the bottom end any pics on just the bottom would help.
A mower Thomas Crapper would turn into a flushing toilet! – Engine fine, hence 1 star at all. Belt slips, lacks power, Drive chains loose, tensioner crap, even new 1 no good. Steering linkage terrible stiff clunky, bits of the plastic shroud just fall off. Tyres poor quality, slip perish quickly. Battery position poor as are its connectors hard to get out. Overall build quality terrible, not surprised discontinued. Bunnings stopped selling Too! Show details
Heap of rubbish – This mower is not fit for purpose, poorly designed, underpowered, breaks down often and Bunnings showed complete diinterest in helping me out. Repair guy shuddered when I took it in it is now not operational. How long should the average person expect a mower to last? We need a class action. Show details
What a lot of trash – I bought this mower three years ago expecting that as a USA company I would get a product suitable for Australian conditions. NOPE, it spends at least 1 month at the repair shop, which is 100Kms away. so cost freight both ways and then the labour costs to fix the problem. So much for USA quality, it dos not exist... If you are considering a MCCulloch in AUSTRALIA product be very careful of buying their product. Show details
McCulloch Mowcart 66 , seem easy enough to get parts for ,any husqvarna Dealer – parts seem easy to obtain, bush need to be check on a regular interval as do the bearings cutter deck no better or worse than decks in this range . light work machine seat is good , motor is ok briggs and stratton. slighty under power but has always started easy age now is ageist these machines now , high cost in mower shop to deal with the repair, most will tell you the unit is two costly to repair Show details
Not recommended – Cannot use because parts are no longer available. Manufacturers do not care. Too many faults Cannot maintain because of lack of parts Cannot buy parts. Do not buy this product. Cannot even buy parts from America where it is sold as a weedeater. Looking at a Toro friction disc to modify to fit. Show details

ultimate junk – what a rubbish, the mother of all the junk, after 1 year it must go to the tip, it worked 20mn and everything is falling apart battery dead, carburetor dead, tyres going to pieces, steering useless too, unit must had been designed by a drunkard in his cave in a deserted island.pathetic Show details
Flimsy Rubbish – It is made by Husqvarna and rebadged. So beware of other brands. Husqvarna does not sell it with their badge, but the quality of their mowers could be similar. Was told by a repairman that the mower was only OK for a small level suburban block and not my large level suburban block!! Don't even think of it if you have half an acre! Look at… Read more
the frame and notice that the front and rear is held together with two tubes. Other small ride-on mowers at least have something resembling a frame.
Poorly designed (eg battery hard to access) and expensive to fix.
Buy a self-propelled mower, eg a Honda for two thirds of the price. I have and expect to be using it in ten years time.
Was quoted $700+ for a new transmission, plus labour. Sold for the motor (B&S), at least that worked.
Don't buy one! Check who really makes the mower.
Needs a match to it – Mower has not had much use and we can not start it check every thing. Just paid $600.00 to have it fixed and still no go. As we live in the west our nearest place to have it service is Emeraldwhich is 240k from us. We have a big yard and thought we were getting a good bye. Show details
Get a self propelled mower ..it's easier – This mower has a poor turning circle and maneouverability. If the grass is even slightly long it won't reverse so getting out of tight spots has to be done by pushing. The machine is a nuisance to operate if you have to reverse frequently due to tight pots.I would not recommend this mower to anyone. Show details
The worst piece of rubbish I have ever owned – This mower is the biggest piece of junk I have ever owned .. The brake pedal has broken the battery wont stay charged the height adjuster handle doesn't work anymore. Steering is so heavy my wife cant use this mower.. tyres keep going flat...it only works in top gear or reverse. To change the oil you need a special oil suction gadget as there… Read more
is no drain plug.
Today after 18 months use I have been advised by a mower repair specialist that he would advise dumping it as parts are hard to get and even if he could get them the repairs would be worth more than the mower.
He said by far its owners of this model he gets asked to repair.. all with similar shonky build stories.
Bunnings you should be ashamed of yourselves peddling such utter junk.
Didn't even get to find out what a piece of junk it is – I bought one of these used but still under warranty, ten minutes into it's maiden test mow the brake cable snapped, and no one in Australia or USA seems to be able to sell me a new cable. Waste of a thousand bucks. John Deere for sure this time around. Show details
Should have bought a goat – Bought my mowcart second hand when it was about a year old to mow a 1and a half acre grassed semi- rural block It went for about 3 years on and off and suffered many of the defects mentioned in previous reviews (tyre punctures, steering problems, gear selection problems, lack of power up slight slope). Eventually advised by mechanic to cut my… Read more
losses and ditch it when drive chains required replacement as no adjustment provided. He advised only good thing about mowcart is B and S engine. Would make an excellent anchor. Buyer beware!!!!!
It's a piece of crap – It's a piece of crap engineering, designed to last 1 hour, throw away mower after use, that's my thought. Parts are hard to get, and they only sell whole assembly for drive line, no adjustment for chain, (what idiot would design something that didn't have an adjustable chain for wear,) a waste of money.
Worst mower ever Mowcart 66 – This could have been a great mower if it had a proper drive system or at least easy parts to get but no i have a mower that cuts well starts well but no drive and it still looks new. Whoever designed this mower i would like to meet and stick this mower where the sun don't shine.

two words – DONT BUY. after 4months the drive gear wont move just shudders , first week the stearing rod fell too pieces where it connects to the front axle the connecting bolt fell off, the tyres go down all the time, wont handle medium length grass and on an incline forget it i only have qtr of an acre of flat land so its not abused. nobody is willing to… Read more
look at it never mind fix it and its still under so called warranty. this mower should be recalled by mcculloch.
Piece of crap – Worst mower I have ever own what a lemon broke down with only 2 hours on it now I use it as a letter box tyres all went flat replaced tubes chain comes off no drive gearbox replaced steering seized no grease points battery replaced now it is parked out front with sign DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE IT ONLY GOOD ENOUGH TO BE A LETTER BOX never got response to emails from McCullock what a waste of time money
Piece of junk – Do not consider buying unless you are prepared to throw away after a couple of years. The diff has just gone on mine, $660 to repair..no way. I built better things with a meccano set. Will avoid McCulloch and their associates forevermore.
Hopeless – Have not been able to complete my lawn once in 6 months. Everytime I use it I get half the lawn mowed before a tube gives way. This has happened over a dozen times. Absolute piece of crap. Have had this mower repaired on multiple occasions and looked at replacing with solid tyres, but any tyre I can find is has bearings and not suitible for this type of mower.
Greatest waste of $1400 ever – Ever since new I have had dramas with my Mow-Cart. Like steering a 'T' model Ford. Steering arms have bent and had to be strengthened. Creeps forward in neutral. Changing from forward to reverse only works occasionally. Always repairing tyres and having trouble purchasing new ones to suit. Stuck with it now because they are not worth anything to… Read more
sell. Just as well that I kept my old Rover, it does more work than the new one which is for ever out of action.
good little mower – I have had a mowcart 66 for four years. only real drama is I had to replace the diff which was fairly cheap. it still has the original battery and I fixed the stiff steering with grease nipples on the king pins. I service and adjust the friction wheel every twelve months and I have had no trouble with it mowing my level half acre block. To the… Read more
people who have had trouble with there mowcart, well, you must treat it with respect and not drive it like a bulldozer, adjust the friction wheel when it needs it and go over the machine with a spanner every now and then.
It's a good little mower...
Cheaply made and fell apart – Owned the mowcart for 3 months. Tyres lost air and had to be filled before every use. Have 1 acre of flat ground to mow, tyres would go down and then the valve would snap off while using it. Didn't cut grass properly. The 4 th time I used it the seat fell off and the brake cable snapped. It's a great idea however not worth spending your money on. I wouldn't recomend this to anyone
Useless product. Worst lawnmower I have ever used – I purchased this product 21 months ago and I'd be lucky if it has worked for 13 of those. I spent $2,000 on the product and have already spent almost $1,000 on service and repairs - and it still doesn't work. The wheel came off. A screw had rusted within a month of owning it (despite keeping it in a dry secure shed). The trigger for the blade has… Read more
stopped working twice. My repairman could not find a replacement tyre of the same size anywhere in New Zealand. Do not buy this product. Ever.
Cheap and nasty...do not buy – Cheap and nasty. Poor quality material used. Customer servicefrom mMcCulloch even worse! Paid 1200 for a complete lemon! Had for less than a week already cost 300 extra in just getting suitable tyres. What McCulloch don't tell you its only good for perfectly manicured lawns yet they're sold Australia wide. Will never buy McCulloch again. Used to buy only McCulloch chainsaws now won't even consider any products.
Worst purchase I have ever made – Hour 1. Stopped on the way home from masters to pump the tires up. 2 had had busted valves. Hour 1. After 30 mins level lawn work couldn't get in reverse. Adjusted gear lever (first of 10 other times) Hour 2. Other 2 tire tubes separated from the valve stems. (Master don't sell the tubes) Hour 2. Seat bolt lost in lawn. Also 11th gear lever… Read more
adjustment.(creeping in neutral)
Hour 2. Jumping chain. Not possible to tension. Oh well I wont go up the 5 degree incline into the garage again.
Hour 3. Ran for a whole 20 mins before losing all drive. Both drive chains so loose and no way of adjusting them.
Total time spent repairing 12hrs.
Total lawn mowed. 1/2 acre.
Never once completed mowing my lawn.
Masters have no idea about anything and its not worth your time talking to them. I just gave up.
PS: You can get my mower on ebay. hehehehe
Not sure how long it will last – Well priced for my average house block, and works ok with some of the same problems as previous reviews, but worried about no ability to adjust drive chains that are very loose after about 20hours use, and no workshop manual found online to date. I fear they have made them "low use throw aways" Get what yiu pay for maybe!
Price drop too fast!! – I bought it for $1280 at Masters Home Improvements in Nov 2013 and now its $999.......Grrrrrr!! frustrating to see it just plummet by $280 in two months. Called Masters and they say will match price if within 30days. The height adjustments do not have enough settings. Luckily so far so good for the battery, start with one kick. No collector included in the price can't move cutting on slight upward inclination...no power...hmmm ...kind of regret
Do not buy – I bought this unit from bunnings (they couldn't get better customer service!! Fantastic) and the first one turned were all blown when I got it! The freewheel lock at the back kept jamming so it wouldn't engage any gears at all, so I took it back for a replacement. Then "new" unit went backwards in neutral and kept jumping into neutral from first!… Read more
So I took it to a mcculloch service center and it was not possible to fix this??? So it went back for a refund and now I have a masport self propelled!!! The theory of not pushing a mower and price 2 machines, both faulty, [censored word removed] build and cheap
