Worth every cent – This has never seen a repair, has travelled once, and has been operating perfectly since July 2007. It gets used 6 times a week at the least. Magic stuff! Show details · 2
Travelled 7 years ago from Melbourne to UK with no lock bars in drum and still fine – Can't even remember when we bought this machine, was from Clive Peters and there long gone. Has ran with no fault whatsoever four times a week. Ran it off tank water in Melbourne, then moved to UK, as the title says , no damage with drum free floating all this way.
Love my Miele – My W 3831 has had some minor repairs along the way just like the previous gentleman's review, all very achievable. It has had constant use and still going strong, ever reliable. I did read recently that you should NEVER wash bathmats in front load machines as they weigh too much when wet and can destroy a machine. Don't discard your machine- parts are easily found for repairs.
Beautifully engineered and awesome parts back up – We have had this machine now for some time with a busy family, it has worked hard. Like others that had the failure with flashing rinse light, I did my research and found that it is not a faulty motor but in fact, worn out carbon brushes in the motor. Unlike other brands where when the brushes wear out and it destroys the motor, I found with… Read more
Miele, just replacing the brushes ($70 spare part from Miele) the machine is back in full service. While I had it opened up I replace the friction Dampers (Shock Absorbers) as it was making a bit of noise with a half load and the drum was bouncing. 4 bolts and $100 for the set of 2 from Miele and we were away like a shot. We had also realised, doing lots of low temp washes, that the boot rubber had discoloured, so I replaced this (door Gasket) it was about $80 I think, from Miele Spares and it looked like new. A service technician friend said we needed to do a tea towel/towels, 60 degree wash, once a week to keep the machine fresh. After doing his recommended Spring clean wash of a no clothes, 95 degree wash with a cup of epsom salts, that the bad smell disappeared and the congealed fabric softener that looked like grease on the clothes at times was gone, and we stopped using fabric softener. So with the new correct advice and the machine looking and working like new, we look forward to another 10 + years of reliable service. Your car needs brake pads and regular service, so this mid life crisis for our clothes washer was no crisis at all. I since have found that Miele have a 10 year quality assurance warranty on things like the bearing and ss drum and some other parts. I have friends where at 10 years their machine was a wreck and needed a tip trip. So to find this amazing quality warranty, we are glad we chose this brand. I have seen other reviews where they were told that our same symptoms of repairs were $1100 plus and needed a new motor. Well clearly this was not correct advice. There are many service agents that cover many different brands. I find getting the advice from Miele themselves or getting their dedicated Miele paid & Trained technician who only does Miele, a much more reliable option. I am sorry for those folks that got bad advice, did little research and ended up buying another machine, I think you sent something good to the recycling for the sake of some inexpensive spare parts. Like getting rid of your car because it needs news tyres, totally a waste of amazing engineering. Our machine is purring along like it's brand new.
Same issue as previous customers. Have had this for nearly 12yrs and can no longer be fixed – I also was expecting longer life for such an expensive product. We also are a family of 4 that uses it 6-8 times a week. I also purchased the matching dryer and have them stacked. Your website doesn't give me an information as to whether I can use the same stacking kit and keep my current dryer also. I have tried to speak to a customer service… Read more
agent and have not been successful in getting through. Your wait times are unacceptable. If you wish for customers to self-serve then you need to provide the information on your website for customers to do so.
Expected greater longevity – Another Miele fatality after 10 years. Same problem as mentioned in Sang D’s review. Started with water inlet fault light then started tripping power cut-off switch. Now machine not working at all after technician call out (over $200) told it was fixed but nothing changed. Poor communication between Miele finance department , technician and customer care. About to start shopping for a new washing machine.
Machine also dead after circa 10 years – We've had this machine for around 10 years and it has been great when it was working. However recently we've had issues with the lights flashing saying water inlet pipe which we've cleaned and no issues in the hose. Called Miele Technician out cost $179 for call out, completed test and advised Faulty motor, friction dampers and top hose need to be… Read more
replaced. Have quoted approx $1100 to fix which is unreal given new machines are around $1400 we paid well over $2k for this machine and would have thought it would last more than 10 years. We've also stuck with Miele with Washer, dryer and dishwasher. Very disappointing ours has broken down this early, will consider other brands.

Oh dear- dead after only 10 years – In March 2010 I purchased this machine because the reputation of Miele for building a sturdy long lasting product appealed. As a family of 4 we used it 6-7 times a week. When we became a family of two it was less often. It was a great washer. Last week it stopped spinning so thinking it was something easy to fix I called a repairman. Apparently it… Read more
needed over $1000 worth of repairs. The shock absorbers had failed/ worn out and this had resulted in significant damage to the motor. I really expected few more years out of a machine that cost me $2499. No more Miele washing machines for me!

Still going strong after 12 years. Love it! – So happy, have been using it every other day for over 12 years without a single problem. Preserves the life of your clothing, uses minimal water and detergent. Can wash the most delicate items. ‘You get what you pay for!’ Show details · 1
Still going strong after 12 years :-) – Love this machine, I don't have to do hand washing, as it does it for me. Everything is great about this machine. The only negative, is towels come out rough and crunchy, but that is bascially the case for most front loaders, then a lady in Myer selling me towels told me the trick, to put in a flat teaspoon of dishwashing powder into your load… Read more
with towels and it will soften them.... and it works. Would buy this machine again when it dies, but no sign of that yet.
Not Worth the Money – I replaced my old Miele with the 3831 and from day one have been very disappointed. This machine does not clean clothes, eg my son stepped on a clean sheet while helping me to fold, it was a dusty thong imprint, no oil, grease or dirt, but to this day that imprint is still on my sheet, nothing I did would remove it and none of the programs… Read more
helped, same with teatowels pre treatments dont work. It doesnt hold a candle to my previous Miele and I was told that by the guy who installed this one. Called Miele out and was told that essentially was all my fault, used too much detergent (as a result of not getting innocuous stains out) and the best bit was told I should be using Miele washing powder as it was formulated for use in their machines at $26 for 1.2kg's (really) they left me some to try - no difference that I could tell. Has now stopped spinning and at $120 minimum call out fee + $20 for every 20 mins + parts think I will cut my losses and buy another machine because in my view I'm throwing good money after bad. My opinion after this experience is this: when you buy Miele you believe you are buying quality and exceptional engineering that will give superior wash results, this has been a long way from my experience. After spending $2600 and and an underwhelming 7.5 year customer experience I will not buy Miele again.
This is a work horse – Thought I would share my experience with this machine - I have now owned it for 8 years and I am very happy with it ( family of 5). The only issue we have had is on two occasions the machine as stopped about 30 seconds into the wash cycle with ---- on dial with no error lights, hubby removed the filter and washed it and it continued to work. Problems problems – Very disappointed with this machine. I've had it a few years and it has broken down many times. If I put more than a few things into it, the 'inlet drain' blocks and I have to drain the machine by tipping it to the side. Not a good machine for a family.

No point paying a premium for a machine that breaks down – Cleans clothes well but clothes/towels always seem to come out very crunchy no matter how much I vary the washing powder. It has broken down after 4 years. It will take 2 weeks for a service man to come out and I'll have to deal with no wahsing machine for 2 weeks play a $170 call out fee. Ridiculous when you can buy a LG for half the price and lasts you 8 years.
Great Washer But Has Broken Down 4 Times In 4 Years – Excellent washing! Loud sound like a jet plane when spinning. Has broken down 4 times in 4 years. Has cost more to fix than the original purchase price. Terrible customer service from Miele! Have been on phone hold for over 3 hours with no answer, had to go to the Facebook page and rant for a call back.
Great machine – I have had this machine for 7 years now. I wanted a front loaders, and 1000 rev/mn minimum spin . I do about 3 loads a week. It is efficient. It washes well, rinses well and spin enough for the load to air dry in no time. It is so quiet that I sometimes forget to take out the washing to hang afterwards when busy. The machine is in a cupboard in our kitchen and nobody knows it is there.
Great washer but buy the extended warranty! – Has been great, but after 4 years I think water has got into the motor. The Drain and inlet lights come on. Miele have said we would need to take it in for repairs, however when I drain the machine and tilt it to get out all the water the washer works again. This has happened twice in about a 2-3 months period. Not sure if it will come good… Read more
permanently. I think you can get a great washer without spending over the thousand mark. time display, quick wash and having the two hoses maybe Miele doesn't last forever as the sales people would have you believe
Hate hate hate it!!! – I have had this machine for 2 years now and it is my first front loader after owning only Maytag and Kleenmaid top loaders- I was very sad to see my Maytag go and due to a laundry renovation had to change to a front loader- the basic cycle never washes well and takes an eternity to do - over an hour! All my t-shirts have holes in them- new and… Read more
old- i think because they spend so much time in the damm machine. My Maytag would do a super wash in 25 minutes and would clean 10 times better. And the cycle never spins properly- machine always imbalances its self- so so very frustrated with this machine- Would never ever buy one again- especially at nearly $2500. I would rather pay for extra water use- because at least I get better results and don't have to rewash or re-spin any loads!!
everything
Fabulous machine – The machine is absolutely fabulous. I wash three loads every day, 7days a week without fail. Themachine just keeps going and going, it is incredibly reliable and the quality of wash is excellent, cannot fault in anyway. Those who complain have no idea! Excellent product as usual from the Germans. It may be a little more expensive when purchasing but in my view so well worth it, nothing else compares. Efficient, always, always reliable
Motor burnt out after 4 years!!!! – Purchased the machine brand new from Harvey Norman. We have 2 children at home and the machine is used approximately 4 -5 times per week. The miele repair man said it was just bad luck! which I thought was a bit rich considering what I paid for the unit and it's age. good when it was working
Fantastic Machine. I love it – I had a Fisher Paykel top loader before which I really loved and thought that it did a good job. But I was just uneducated. Once I bought this machine I couldn't believe the difference in the clean. A once white T-shirt I was going to chuck went through this machine and came out white again!! The clothes are nearly dry when they come out of the… Read more
machine and with all the rain we've had since I got this machine, it's saved me on having to use the dryer as much. Love it - will only ever buy Miele from now on. Hopefully it will be a long time before I have to buy another machine. The Miele service man came out to show me to get the best from the machine - for free!!! Really clean clothes
Excellent – Ive had mine for 18 month now and it sits in the laundry and ticks over like a clock. then out comes clean clothes. a dream to own, after years of putting up with whirlpool i didnt realise a washing could be this good i just expected it would break down every 6 months like a whirlpool does. Its been great highly recommend. A brilliant machine,… Read more
easy to use, quiet, clean wash. I just washes clothes so you forget how good it is. I had a Whirlpool before this and it was a nightmare. You dont appreciate a good machine untill youve had a chunker. Its worth every cent and then some. none, its true miele is dearer than other brands but there worth it.

Excellent – It feels like a quality product, firm and solid. It is a brilliant washing machine, and I hope it lasts for many years to come. I love the whole thing. The countdown display is really handy. The delayed start is also good. It is almost silent when operating. There is no more "shut the laundry door I'm trying to watch TV" when it is on - even… Read more
in spin. Outstanding wash - the muddy footy gear comes out spotless. It doesn't have a ridiculous about of programme options - just a sensible amount which you are likely to use. The anti-wrinkle function is also good - the machine gently turns the drum at the end of a wash so that your clothes don't get stuck in the one position after spinning and become creased. Saves on ironing. Nothing at all
Excellent – This is a great washer. Having had another front load washer before the Miele, we thought we knew what to expect. Wow, how wrong can you be! Its quieter, gentler on clothes, you don't get drum impressions on your towels as the honeycomb pattern has only very small holes. The delay start is great as we set up washes to finish in the morning. We… Read more
also have the matching dryer which that is worthy of a review of its own! I really like the front facia design of this machine - its the model before the ones with a screen, and quite frankly I prefer being able to look at the indicator lights to see what wash is being done. Also, its very easy to set the wash up by pressing the selection buttons. We have left tissues in pockets and they do not get spread in the wash - thats really such a bonus. Would happily recommend this washer. Excellent washing, large capacity, very clean clothes, gentle on clothes, many wash options, 23hr delay start, nearly dry clothes after spin dry. Nothing. Its expensive compared to other brands, but much better.
Disappointed in service – I recently purchased a new W 3831 what a great front load machine, with all its features and finally clean lint free washing. Unfortunately I was unable to purchase a new boxed model, as the new model was currently being introduced. Luckily I tracked down a floor model from a large Harvey Norman Store. In the store the top protective shield was… Read more · 1
unattached but on arrival home when we had to attach this top, it was marked and had a crack in the side.
I contacted the store who in turn contacted the Miele rep, who informed the staff member that floor stock is sold as is.
What poor service, they would not replace the damaged top.
When you buy a new Mecedes off the show room floor you don't expect scratches and dents when the name of the brand should speak for quality customer service.
We paid good money and expected a better outcome. ENERGY EFFICIENT, CLEAN RELIABLE WASH POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE
Love it! – The best washing machine I've ever owned. Reliable, gentle on clothes and washes very well. Enameled outer shell won't rust like my last washer. I don't have the repairman out all the time like the washer before. It also never leaves soap residue, and doesn't use much washing powder. Reliable, gentle on clothes, clothes come out clean.
Excellent – What can I can, after putting up with a Maytag top load for more than 10 years, I am more than satisfied with my new Miele W3831 washing machine. My sister has a Miele for over 7 yrs now and she is always complimentary of her machine. On the other hand, I had always complained about my Maytag and the large amount of lint on the clothes. The only… Read more
obstacle for delaying to buy this model was the price however, as a result of the recent Miele sale ($200 discount) and a further water rebate ($150) I bought my new machine immediately. I find the machine very simple to use with outstanding washing results with minimal water consumption. An important feature of the machine is that it is connected to both a hot tap and cold tap thus reducing the washing time to that of other machine brandes that only have a cold tap connected and therefore time is wasted heating the water in those machines.
Jackie Washes very well, short cycle available for lightly soiled clothes, time delay available for up to 24 hrs, time left displayed for washing to complete, no lint on clothes even after throwing a towel to be washed amongst clothing. A little more ironing when clothes have dried.
