My five year old washing machine had a slight burning smell. When I used it the next time I could see bright sparks like flames where the drum met the rubber seal. Luckily I could turn it off before it caught fire. The drum had scorch marks I phoned Miele to report it and nothing was done. They weren’t interested and don’t care. I hope no one with this Miele washing machine has a house fire. Show details

Broken down again – 2 years and 3 months old. Broken down twice in the last month. Taken away again by the Miele approved repairers. Very frustrating when it takes one week for them to come and see it, then usually another week to get the part and repair. Miele No Longer A 'premium' Or Reliable Brand – Please do not send me technical questions! I have posted a review complaining about this product and am not employed by miele. We are incensed and dismayed that we purchased this machine ($2599) believing that it was a 'premium product' and as such would last longer than 2.5 years and not cost a third of its original purchase price to fix. … Read more

Miele is no longer a premium product and as they move to the 'digital transformation' of their products to quote their marketing hype be weary as this 'transformation' is fraught with major problems and expense for the consumer. I told this story to friends of ours who also own a Miele washing machine and they immediately asked if it was the electronic board - they've had to replace theirs twice! The part that needs replacing in our machine is the electronic control board which costs $498 plus labour plus the call out fee which we've already paid of $160. We will dispose of the Miele and replace it with a less 'premium' brand and my guess is we'll probably get longer than 2.5 years operation out of it.

Disappointing (after our first Miele machine died) – After our old Miele washing died after 25 years we had no hesitation to buy another. After 12 months of using the WKF130 PW 8kg washer it started to make a ‘tuktuktuktuk’ noise as the spin cycle gathered momentum so I called Miele service to come out. The first repairman was behind on his jobs that he didn’t even make to my house. The second… Read more

repairman greased the three springs holding the drum (he couldn’t reach the fourth spring as it was obscured) and told me he had seen this before and more or less I’d have to live with the noise. The grease didn’t help the noise go away but made a hell of a mess inside the springs. The third repairman said the problem could be fixed but needed a second person to help him lift the drum (?). The fourth time there were two repairmen and they changed the springs indicating that this was a known problem with the ‘tuktuktuktuk’ sound of the springs hitting the drum as it spun. Well, the tuktuktuk noise has gone but what is left now is a jet engine hum when in the spinning cycle! So much for German engineering and the Miele reputation. Next time Miele will not be my only choice. Not worth the $$$$ we paid.

Whisper Quiet, So many features, Cleans Well – After my LG Direct Drive Washing machine was on its last legs (after 8 years) I was looking for a washer which would have the following features: Quiet, Have a shorter Full load cycle (shorter than 3 hrs) and have a quick wash option which didn't mean I could only load it to about 2 or 3kg. After reading lots of reviews (both good and bad) and… Read more ·  1

visiting the Miele Experience Centre nearby I decided to purchase a Miele 8kg washer. It was actually a little smaller than my old one but at only 0.5kg smaller load it wasn't a big difference. What i noticed straight away was how quiet this machine is. Usually on my old one i could hear it start in early hours (time delay) and when it would spin - boy would i hear it! This machine is so quiet i could keep the laundry door open and i actually woke up at 4am thinking it didn't start because i couldn't hear it! I went out to check - well it was definitely on and so quiet i thought it hadn't started! Can do up to 5kg quick wash (power wash) in 1 hr. Has more option of Temp (Cold, 30, 40, 50, 60) and can go up to 1600rpm spin. I love the auto clean wash liquid dispenser drawer and the machine is easy to use. I love this machine and so glad i got it (i love doing laundry anyhow and this machine has made me love it more!)

Very easy to control – There are different mode options for the load, suitable for different types of laundry. But I generally put all kinds of clothes together, I am very satisfied with this machine, usually 20 minutes enough for daily use. Because it is very easy to control, energy-saving effect good, water-saving effect is good, wash very clean, if you follow the settings can hardly damage clothes.  Show details ·  1

Great - if you like all your towels having an exfoliant factor – Towels come out like sandpaper - I am using the same washing powder and fabric softener as I have used for the past 20 years, and I have always had soft, fluffy towels. No matter whether I wash in hot or cold, short cycle or long, fast spin or short, my towels are like sandpaper! The ONLY way I can make them any better is to put them in the… Read more

clothes dryer for 5 minutes before handing on the line, to provide a little bit of softening factor.

Cycles take too long - 2 1/2 hours for a normal"family" cycle. As it takes so long, I am washing EVERY DAY, which is a real pain - I have been used to a 25min top-loading cycle (Maytag) where I could do all my family washing twice a weeks, and still have time to have fun on washing days! No more!

Inflexibility with water temperatures for some cycles. You have to use the temperature that the washing machine dictates.

Good quality - it's quiet. Also seems to be water efficient. Not sure that this will balance out the extra energy use that I have to have now using the dryer for clothes!

Terrible Washing Machine – Clothes come out hard and I use softener. Miele told me to not use softener - what a joke! Wash cycles too long and not enough temperature and spin variations on cycles. I had a Miele for 17 years and now just purchased this terrible new one. The only good thing about the machine is that it is quiet. Don't buy one.  Show details

Miele Washing Machine WKF130 (8kg Front Loader) – MIELE WASHING MACHINE WKF130 *Please note you'll find it's specs if you scroll to the bottom. I was happy with the washing machine & dryer I was using in their… Read more

place, they were a different brand & the washing machine was a top loader, but they seemed to do a good job - That opinion changed when I organised my wardrobe & saw lots of pilling & fading on the clothes I'd been wearing, but not on the clothes I'd worn & washed before I moved. I looked into these issues further & long story short, I decided to save up for a new Miele washing machine & dryer.

My new Miele Washiing machine (model WKF130, 8kg, front loader) arrived two weeks ago & I love it. I didn't realise how much I missed this type of washing machine & I forgot how much easier it makes washing, drying & ironing your clothes. It's RRP is $2559 but I got in on sale for $2299 delivered from David Jones (as at August 1st 2017 this price is still available). It is really easy to use, it's very quiet & you can buy a matching dryer which stacks on top of it, or they can be placed side by side (I'm saving up for the dryer next). It's mainly white (colour = Lotus) with chrome in areas like the buttons & door handle, so it will match pretty much any interior.

Below you'll find everything else I can tell you about this washing machine & my experience so far (FYI - I've done 11 loads of washing over two weeks).

***My experience:

- The booklet/instructions this comes with are awesome. They explain everything well, they include images of almost everything so you can follow & see what they're telling you to do, there are also great tables towards the back of the booklet that show you every washing cycle, every single mode & what modes go with what cycles, how long each cycle takes, suggested detergent by load type & size, garment care using the same images & text as the labels on your clothes, cleaning & maintaining your washing machine & everything else you could possibly ever need or want to know.

- As Miele loads typically take a long time, I've been using the 'Quick Power Wash' which takes just under an hour. It automatically works out how much water to use, the best temperature to wash at, how much detergent & fabric softener it needs, & how long the cycle needs to be (there is also an express wash, you'll see it a little further down).

- I washed small, medium & large loads which all came out great using the Quick Power Wash.

- I washed my king bed fitted & flat sheets, 4 pillow cases & doona cover, they all came out great & there was still some room left in the machine. I tried the 'Cotton's cycle & it took 2 hours & 29 minutes!

- I washed white/lights, colours & darks & they all came out great (I used Quick Power Wash for these).

- The delicate/hand-wash mode worked really well & was gentle enough for garments I usually only hand wash. I washed a fine lace top, a heavily embellished sheer top, a wool look jumper with large sequins image & delicate undergarments. These all came out great, they were clean, undamaged & no sequins or embellishments fell off.

- The 'Pre-Iron' setting worked well & my items were definitely smoother - FYI, I find Miele washing machines & dryers both leave clothes smoother & easier to iron anyway, even without using the pre-iron setting, but it definitely did make a difference.

- I used the Miele detergent cartridges/TwinDo's for my washing detergent & fabric softener. I received free samples with my purchase so I've been these out. There are quite a few different types you can buy, these are explained thoroughly in the instructions booklet. For a six month supply of washing detergent cartridges you're looking at $124.95, that gets you 3 x Ultraphase 1 cartridges + 2 x Ultraphase 2 cartridges. Alternatively 2 x 1.5L Ultraphase cartridges for colors & whites will set you back $24.95.

- One of the reasons I decided to buy this washing machine is because you can use any washing detergent & fabric softer you like in it - You don't have to use Miele's cartridges or Miele branded laundry products (FYI a 2L bottle of Miele laundry liquid for colours & darks is $19.95). You'll find a list of Miele's laundry product recommendations in the instruction booklet too.

***Functions I haven't yet tried: There are so many!

- There are a heap of functions & modes I haven't tried yet. I'll try to update this review as I do (if I can), but if I waited 'til I'd tried them all the washing machine probably would've been discontinued.

- There are six different types of specialist washing capsules you can buy (outdoor, sport, silk, wool wash ect) plus three fabric conditioners. My understanding is you use these in addition to your Miele cartridges/TwinDo's - For 10 capsules you can expect to pay $19.95 & a bottle of fabric softener is $16.95. All of your options are explained in the booklet under 'Accessories' & also on Miele's website under 'Laundry Care'. To me these are like the Miele version of Napisan, Sard Wonder Soap, Martha Gardener's Wool Mix & Fluffy Fabric Softener.

- If you don't have an hour or two to wait for your washing to finish there is a 20 minute express cycle.

- You have the option to delay the start of your cycle for up to 24 hours.

- You can set up a PIN which works as a child safety lock.

- I have not yet tried the stains option or the stain boosters. You can specifically target 22 different types of stains & up to 3 simultaneously.

- There are 'extra options' you can select including extra quiet, extra gentle & allergo wash.

- The booklet explains every last detail, mode, option & accessory so for once I actually read it in full (I usually skim it if I'm lucky). It includes lots of helpful information including cleaning instructions (towards the end) & they're important for anyone mainly using cold or cool water in their washing machine.

***The negatives & things to consider:

I really do love this washing machine but like everything, it is not perfect - These are just a few things I think potential buyers may like to consider.

- It is expensive, whether you pay RRP or get it on sale, it's still quite expensive.

- Loads typically take a really long time, 59 minutes for a 'quick cycle' isn't really quick, but the 20 minute express cycle I'm yet to try may solve the problem. To give you an idea what I mean, cotton cycles can take 2hr 29mins, 1hr 59min or 3hr 10min. The delicate cycle is 1hr 9min, the minimal iron cycle 1hr 59min & the woolen cycle is just 38 minutes.

- It's a larger unit than most washing machine's so it takes up more space. Like everything else its measurements are in the instructional booklet (page 92 contains all specs & measurements - I've also included some basic specs at the end of this review).

The last couple of things I want to add are that I really do like this washing machine. Just as with my previous experiences with Miele, it is gentle on my clothes, it washes everything really well & does a great job removing stains. It is definitely more expensive than lots of washing machines, but it's not crazy & there are certainly many washing machines that are way more expensive than this. Before I made this purchase I saw numerous reviews floating around, most were 4.5-5 stars, but on some sites it was just 3.5 stars, so please check out a few other review sites before making your decision.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review! I hope you found it helpful & I've included a few important specs for you below.

Height = 850mm

Width = 596mm

Depth = 636mm

Weight = 100kg (approx)

Capacity = 8kg

Colour = White with chrome

Energy Rating = 4.5 star

Water Rating = 4.5 star LEW water rating

RRP = $2599

They asked me to visit the french forest center for demonstration. Quality German engineering – Front loader that washes & does all you expect from a modern machine: changeable options for temperature, garment type, level of soiling, etc. So far so good... around & water being added. Even at top spin of 1600 it is very very quiet.

Powerwash function is great - 59 mins wash is quicker than other brands for a PROPER wash - tested on awful bedsheets that came out thoroughly clean.

20 min quick wash also quicker that other brands - brilliant for busy families for that need a piece of school uniform freshened up for tomorrow - I will use this a lot!

Water, power & detergent usage is so low (compared to top loader just replaced). Am already saving money on detergent.

Beep alarm at cycle end - not harsh, not too silly & cute - just right.

Cons: long wash cycle for cottons - but similar to all front loaders

So nervous before buying, a bit relieve now – Well, I have a Maytag front load as my first front loader and I say I will always go for front loader, it is 12 years old now and I have to get the new one, I have been look at the Miele for a long time and when you think the price is 2k for a long time with happy wash, I do not think it is expensive, so after researching for a while, I go with… Read more ·  1

WKF130 PWash AU.

The delivery is great, they deliver and put it in where we want, they are helpful

Finally after 3 weeks to have free time and remove the old Maytag, I unpack the box, it is darn heavy and by the time I see how heavy it is, I know I bought a good piece but I am still worry about the fault and everything else.

Take out the stabilize bar, check the water waste, I am surprise when I saw water in there, after reading carefully I see they state that they test the machine in their facility so left over water is normal, I feel better because I saw a hair somewhere near the water come out and I was very angry when I see it, please keep reading, now I am sure that it is not from the machine ;-) Phew...

Turn it on to run the first program, Error , please call Miele... WTH, it is so embarrassed in front of my friend too, turn off and run again. This time it runs, well... let's see

The program is quite easy to understand if you also read the book, also it will take the hot water in with the hot water intake if you tell it to do so, good to see the hot water intake still there, believe me, it is worth the money to pay more to have 2 water intakes. Correct me if I am wrong the seller told me the cheap version has only one cold water intake and of course it is a no no.

After 3 months of using it here is the verdict

I have heard about the quiet of Miele and never think of it until I have this one, It is absolutely quiet as a mouse compare to the Maytag, much much quieter, I did not hear it does the job at all, very impressed

The clothes come out much brighter and cleaner than before, well, I'm impressed because I think the clothes can not be cleaner but this machine does the job, maybe because of the help of Powerwash function.

Well, I could not see my clothes worn out after using this machine but with baby clothes you have to use light program otherwise

I did not use the detergent from Miele so can not help you on this, but I use Omo, Dynamo with great result, I am not sure about the sud after wash, but I do see one time left over bubble on the door after the machine finish.

I agree that most of the programs are quite long, if we can make change to it that should be good.

So far compare to the other machines that I have observed this one makes me happy but very nervous at first.

It's ok – Quite a lot of suds are left in clothes at the end of wash. Gross Waste of Money!!! – After three months, I can confidently say that this would have to be THE WORST front loader washing machine I have purchased. Up until buying this Miele I had always had Asko FLs (the Made in Sweden, not Slovenia, models) and was very happy with their performance. I purchased this Miele because Asko is no longer owned by the Swedes and I wanted… Read more

an appliance that I thought would deliver the same or similar front loader washing performance. I've had front loaders for more than 30 years with no issues with detergent or proper washing of clothes. This time, I wanted a larger 8kg sized machine with a 1600rpm spin speed. This Miele model does not deliver clean, soap free clothes. When I complained to Miele about the wash not removing all the suds, their response "use less product". So I used less and less detergent each wash, until I was down to a teaspoon of detergent, but there were still suds after the final rinse. If I used any less product I would be picking out three grains of detergent and placing them in the wash. Of course, I wouldn't have any suds but the clothes wouldn't be clean either. In fact, I don't think the clothes are coming out clean at all; they certainly don't smell clean compared to a wash in the Asko. This Miele machine takes a long time on the "main wash" and does a few quick rinses which do not remove all the detergent. Asko used to do up to seven rinses each wash and maybe that was the secret. I find I am having to do an additional "separate rinse" on every load of washing. So where is the saving on water and energy? I have no idea. I suspect Miele want people to buy it's specially formulated detergent for these machines. Sorry Miele, your detergent is too expensive and it is inconvenient not being able to go and purchase detergent when you need it. Miele, you have made clothes washing far more complicated than it needs to be. First opportunity I will be ridding myself of this gross waste of money machine and buying something simple that washes the clothes clean and leaves no suds. So what if I have to buy four washing machines worth $800 over the next 20 years; at least I won't have the frustration of an expensive non-performing over-engineered piece of plastic and metal that doesn't do what it is supposed to do - that would be WASH the clothes clean!!!
