Minoxidil Extra Strength Questions & Answers
Im a woman in my sixties, and want to start Minoxidil (foam?), With fluffy long hair it sounds like it will be difficult to get a good amount onto the scalp (with excess going onto my hair), and it sounds like it will make my hair greasy. Is this true? I dont want to wash and dry my hair every day - what a job - and thats not good for hair anyway, right? The pills sound a lot better, and greater chance of success, but the many possible side effects are scary.
Hi Minoxidil I have been using topical Minoxodol 2% successfully for 15 years now but because of prednisone medication, my hair is thinning considerably. Should I try using the 5% topical to try to hold my hair in until I stop the medication?
Hi , I have used 5% for 3 months my hair it looks like my 5 years back before my hair loss , minoxidil extremely helping your hair back but you need to consider to talk to your GP about Finasteride to control from inside your body to not reject any thickness. Best of luck
Can I get this product in India ? please reply as soon as possible.
You can buy it on Ebay so it's available anywhere if you have a postal service
Hi I amam 20 year youg boy and i am facing hair thining in large quantity can you please suggest what should I do?
You should see your doctor. There is a medication you can take for male pattern balding.
Can I just use 2ml of minoxidil at night, only once a day. Will that work, or do I have to apply twice a day? I already have itching on the balding part of the crown, I'm concerned about the possible itching?
When I use Regaine I experience head sweats. Is that a known side effect?
I think it is. Dandruff is a side effect as well
Hello ...so do u think when u start taking this solution u cant stop it???? And how long u can use it for???
You can always stop the application of minoxidil. But soon after stopping it you will lose the hair that you have grown by using Minoxidil. You can use minoxidil for as many years as you want.
Hello
I'm 27 years old, female, I had hair loss and I went to the doctor for checking and after blood test doctor said I have iron and vitamin B12 deficiencies he prescribed for me iron and B12 supplements but my dermatologist prescribed 5% minoxidile,I use it for 3 months twice daily my hair falling stopped and my hair start growing and now I use it once daily do I need to use it for a long time or can I stop using it because I don't have hereditary hair loss or what should I do?
You should definitely take Iron supplement or each enough protein if you are low in Iron as Iron deficiency contributes to hair loss
I have been using this product for about 3 years now. I stopped using it for a period of about 3 months and when I started to use it again, I had massive hair fall out to the point that everyone I work with asked if I had had a hair cut. The hair I have now is a LOT fuller but definitely recommend continued usage

I am using topical Minoxidil 5% after having no success with the prescription Minoxidil 1% tablets for 2 years. My hair loss was the result of 5 years on Tamoxifen, 5 years on Femara and chemotherapy and 2 separate radiation treatments. I had three bouts of breast cancer - 1990, 2003 and 2007. I am fit and fine, but my hair started to disappear after 12 months on Femara (cancer drug as is Tamoxifen). My question is would the supplement TRX2 be useful together with the topical Minoxidil? Would it be effective or not recommended to combine the oral Minoxidil with the topical applications? My hair was my crowning glory (I am a redhead) and would dearly love to have it back. I have been living with a great wig for 5.5 years and using the topical now for 2 months and crossing all my fingers. Thanks Susann!
Hi Susann, It is not advisable to combine topical and oral minoxidil. Topical minoxidil is absorbed through the skin in significant amounts (this is why pregnant women, lactating women or women trying to get pregnant aren't allowed to come in contact with it).
Topical has been proven to be more effective for hair loss as well as having less side effects due to not as much of it being introduced into the blood stream, topical also produces less overall un-wanted body hair for obvious reasons due to it's target area-application.
Maximum results from topical minoxidil are reached at 2 years of consecutive use (morning and night), don't forget the benefit of scalp stimulation via use of a high quality boar-bristle brush as well.
Thank you very much for that advice and also about the brush. That I didn't know, however I do use a nail brush to stimulate scalp as it seemed a logical thing to do. The 2 year timespan is also good to know. Thank you all_alloy.
I am suresh 4 mnths back asked minoxtil 5% this product good for me .and also now I shifted to 10% this is 1 bottle I using my hair again start falling .what can I do sir. Again will go back to 5%? Advice me pls
I guess your won experience is the best guide. Go back to the 5% if that was working. Good luck.
There is no approval for 10% minoxidil from any government in the world currently. Extensive 1980s and 1990s long term studies found that 5% minoxidil was the maximum concentration that showed improvement. 5% was applied twice daily. There was no improvement in applying more than 5% or when applying it more than twice a day. I would be VERY sceptical of a product claiming to contain 10% minoxidil. Remember that minoxidil is an irritant and applying more than the recommended dosage can cause irritation, leading to infection which leads to scarring of the scalp and possibly permanent hair loss in the affected areas.
I've been using nuhair rx serum for quite a while now and it works great. As a woman, I have fairly long hair and had problems with getting the foam down to my scalp at first. Here's how I apply it now and it works great
Hi am 32 yrs men working pvt concern suffering from hair loss frm 8 yrs continuesly now I am using minoxtil 5% since one mnths along with hair supplmnt taplets .how long I use this products get results?pls advice me
Well the good news is that you can regrow any hairs you lost that have fallen out under 6 years ago (research has said that hair that's stopped growing from follicles can regrow as long as it hasn't been dormant for more than 6 years).
You will experience increased hair loss for up to 3 months when first using minoxidil - this means it's working.
Use it twice daily, morning and night.
The bad news is that Minoxidil only works for as long as you use it; so this means you have to use it for life because if you discontinue using it, the hairs you've gained will slowly shrink and fall out just as they did before you started using minoxidil.
I experienced hair grow gains for about 2 years or so of using Minoxidil before the products results plateaued and I no longer gained any new hair growth.
It's a pretty safe product when used externally however it's limited in the fact that it has to be used every single day and that it only can revive hair-follicles that are under 6 years of age maximum - any hair follicles not producing hairs for over 6 years will not be able to be re-actiivated by Minoxidil.
A good multi-vitamin that contains broad-spectrum activated B-Vitmains ( B-Vitamins are synergistic in nature so they support each other and work by increasing blood flow to extremities such as the scalp via vasodilation) as well as containing essential hair nutrients as Zinc, Iron & Silica amongst many others.
A great one is "Eagle Tresos Activated B PLuse" - you can get this from a Nutritionist, Naturopath or Health food Store (it's practitioner only so you'll need to have it dispensed by a registered health practitioner behind the desk).
Make sure your diet is rich in quality proteins (all animal products are complete proteins including wild caught fish, grass fed, free-range, organic beef, lamb, goat, and organic free range pork, chicken, turkey etc.
If you're vegetarian/vegan than man sure you're protein combining in your diet to make sure you're getting all 8 essential amino acids in order for your body to be able to synthesise complete proteins.
So I use this continsly for 1 at least 6 mnths to 1 yers
Hi I started using minoxidil for 3 weeks and now I see more hairs falling out than before , and now more bald spots are viable ; I am really scared that I will lose all of my hair. Is this hair fall common while using minoxidil and how long it takes to see the positive result?
Yes, hair fall does initially occur. Don't worry. Keep it up and you will soon see a whole lot of new growth. I can't remember how long it took now. Sorry.
Minoxidil has been used since 1985, it's rare to have over 30years of clinical trials for evidence of drug efficacy. All studies have concluded that the more hairs you lose during the first 3-4 months is basically found to correlate with how many hairs you'll regrow; this means that the amount of hair lost in the first few months is indicative of how many extra hairs you're going to gain onto of those lost.
If you didn't lose significantly anymore hairs than normal in the first 3+ months than that means minoxidil is not working for you - so your hair loss is a sign that the drug is actually doing what you're paying it to do.
Just remember that minoxidil must be applied at least once daily and remain in contact with your scalp for at least 4+ hours a day to have any effects - so either use it in the morning or evening after your shower and leave it on all day.
If you discontinue minoxidil - the hairs will gradually fall out again - unfortunately it's a "for life" drug that has to be applied every day for the rest of your life in order to maintain the new hair-growth gained.
Can anyone tell me did they loose hair in the beginning whilst using the product?
Yes. Whenever you bring more blood to the area all of a sudden you'll see like 30% more hair fall out than usual however after 1 month you'll notice the extra hair will stop falling out.
Can i use minoxidil at night and go to bed with it in my hair & wash it out in the morning.I've read directions they say 2 to 4 hrs.
speedy
That's the best way to use it. You use it twice a day regardless, after showering is best as it prepares the scalp for maximum absorption by removing natural oils from the scalp. This gives you 8 hours of action whilst you sleep which is great as you won't be sweating like you do during the day so you'll receive maximum results.
better apply it at least 2 hours before you go to bed , because the chemical might go on your pillow and then on your face causing some light bleaches on your skin and might start growing hair on unwanted areas of your face
good luck
I am 65 years of age and have been using Minoxidil for 3 months, what harm can it cause?
It can cause topical skin irritation (scalp) anything from itching and redness to dryness, psoriasis like symptoms and severe rashes. Also Minoxidil does enter the blood stream, although the amount is very minute it can in some sensitive individuals cause disruption of their testosterone balance leading to conditions such as a heart rhythm abnormalities, blood pressure issues and increased oestrogen levels.
These however are rare so it's always a case when it comes to any drug use that you balance the benefits with the potential side effects.
if i used minoxidli for 3 month and after that i stipped for a while, why does it make the hair loss more than before?
It won't make you lose anymore hair than you previously lose (discontinuation of Minoxidil does not accelerate hair loss); however you will lose all the new hairs you've regrown with Minoxidil on discontinuation of the drug.
The way in which the drug re-grows hairs is very simple: it allows more blood to flow to the scalp and therefore nourish the follicle which intern allows for faster and more efficient hair growth - this is the reason some people have experienced the same hair re-growth success with natural product such as rubbing essential oils into their scalp every night - both these practices increase blood flow to the scalp.
