Excellent turbo diesel 4x4 – I have a permanent daily work 2016 Triton. I also have a personal Toyota Landcruiser 100 series. I drive the Triton everyday and it’s really grown on me as an outstanding all around quality 4x4. My previous employer used Landcruiser 79 series with the V8, I find the Triton is a better everyday driver than the Landcruiser. Very easy highway touring… Read more

sitting on 1900 rpm in 6th at 110kph. It doesn’t quite have the towing or hard off-roading of the Toyotas but that’s what makes it so easy to live with. The most practical family and work vehicle I have ever had. I use low range for work on gas fields and rain soaked mud. It’s 4x4 is excellent, it isn’t going to win contests on articulation flex or ground clearance but if you don’t need hardcore lifts or axle flex don’t pay for it. Save money and keep a 4x4 with major touring manners. I run 600km a day on the Hume freeway for work some days and it’s a comfortable easy trip.

Fuel average at 8.6L per 100km on my set up. My only complaints are the seatbelt alarms when you start up, it gets old quickly. I would also put a larger fuel tank on if I owned it privately. Mitsubishi was too modest putting a 75L tank on it. 90L or 95L would be a lot nicer. Turbo lag is also very noticeable, unfortunately it’s there and no one can really be happy with bogging down on take off.

No faults so far at 57 000km, reliability is Japanese standard. A good all rounder for work and family. Saves major cash over some other makes. The Triton will do an excellent job and keep costs at a reasonable level. Put it on your short list.

Excellent 4X4 trayback Carries more in weight than a Landcruiser – We have used this ute on farm and for longer trips since new. It has 49000 kms since new (2019), carries 1 ton with ease and no loss of speed (100-120 kph) with that weight. Generally uses 11 litre per 100k.s (25 mpg)? whether loaded or not. The auto changes seamlessly and pick up is impressive if needed. Handles well on dirt though original tyres… Read more

(which were recently replaced with Wranglers) are not much good offroad. The 8 foot tray will fit a side by side (Polaris 570) without having to tow a trailer. Very minor mechanical issues. Mice can get into cab air intake. When filling with diesel keys dont like getting soaked as they will malfunction. I have owned Landcruiser tray backs and fuel use was a lot more and price about double so if the Triton lasts half as long as a Landcruiser go and buy two new Tritons and you wont be any more out of pocket.Fixed price servicing only good till 45k service and next service (60000 k's) will cost $1600 which seems excessive

Fantastic value - way better than competing dual cab utes – My Triton cost me $15k less than the equivalent market leader. It drives very well loaded and unloaded although the drive by wire makes it a bit laggy on take off. That lag can be a problem when you are trying to dart across a T intersection or merge quickly into a roundabout from a standing start. Huge array of safety features not found on… Read more

other makes.

Comfortable, nicely laid out interior.

Impossible to set a useful volume level for incoming calls via Apple Car Play but otherwise ok system.

Rear seat belt lights have a mind of their own and Mitsubishi are too lazy to investigate it ... but just a minor annoyance.

The vehicle is 1 year old this week and I couldn't be much happier with it.

Ongoing problems on a vehicle brought new – Brought second hand 2004 Triton 4x4 with only 18k km on it had it for 11 years no problems only had to replace clutch once. Upgraded to new Triton 4x4 late 2016, I've had to take it back for warranty repairs plenty of times, within a year 3rd gear slipping, electronics on steering wheel always playing up. traction, won't go into 4x4, then when it finally locks in always 4x4 low and can't get it back to 2 wheel a nightmare. Door alarm is permanently beeping although all doors closed. Took it in today warranty covers 4x4 problem but not door problem had to be re aligned, never been in an accident and only 4x4 driving on road verges where I work so I had to pay for the dodgy door system and the usual response we've found the problem with the 4x4 we'll ring you when we get the part and you can take another day off work as we need your car at 8am. These people keep no spare parts onsite so any problem is always 2 visits and the reason you buy brand new running a business so you don't have these problems. The money I've lost from taking days off to get warranty repairs done, around 15% on top of purchase price, do yourself a favour and spend that 15% on a better brand of vehicle and save yourself a lot of hassle and dealing with these people who don't give a fck

Great value for money – I've set the vehicle up as a tourer and it's been going great. With a good fuel economy and soild performance. I haven't towed anything so can't comment on that but I have loaded it up with weight and it maintains a decent performance... though perhaps not as much as some of the other dual cabs on the market. For the price though, it's hard to beat and after 90000 km I've not had a single issue. Show details

Good car but – Purchased a 2018 Triton Gls recently. Had a 2016 model that was written off in an accident. Really liked my 2016 model so went straight back to this model. most car these days you use the arrow on steering wheel, not his model all touch screen.

Find it strange that a newer model car wouldn’t have this when older ones do. Basically have to take your eyes off the road ever time you want to change station. Very annoying and unsafe.

Tail gate also wouldn’t shut properly but easily fixed by adjusting brackets, which you should have to do on a 40k car.

Fuel consumption also average so far coming up to 1500km and need to full car up for a 4th time which seems odd.

Don't expect more than what you paid for – It's all the little things that will get to you... - Windows tend to have vertical scratches after a few months. - Why did Mitsubishi deem it necessary to have so many high pitched alarms? It beeps when i turn it on and off and the seat belt warning doesn't let up before you are diagnosed with PTSD. - Doors automatically lock and still… Read more

operate every time even after this feature is "deactivated".

- Steering wheel buttons are 'seek' and won't track through radio presets, very lazy design.

- Sound system fluffs with a hint of base at freeway speeds (ie don't test this in the garage).

- Pretty sure you get a free set of maracas inside the doors.

- Bluetooth (even after the firmware upgrade) is too quiet at full volume.

- 4WD system can make you lonely. Usually everyone else has hit the hill and are out of sight before you are finished the back and forth, in gear/neutral dance.

- Knock on wood, I have never run out of fuel... could be somewhat easy in a car that doesn't have a warning light or alarm. Funny because it makes so much noise for other reasons, maybe fuel is less important?

- Carry a cloth 24/7 cause if you want to see anything on the media screen you will need to clean it first. Even in the city.

- Windscreen water bottle only has enough capacity for a few tears and needs to be filled every week in dusty environments.

- Compared to ranger and hilux, the lag in the Triton is considerably annoying (automatic).

I don't need side mirrors that open and close when locking the car. I don't need shiny fake chrome and plastics that seem to get your eyes no matter how good my matrix moves are. And i really don't need a HDMI input.

The biggest disappointment with this vehicle is the lost potential. It can't be too difficult to fix all these items and in doing so would make the Triton a great every day ute. Hopefully the new look model has had more attention to detail than its MQ predecessor.

No Real Issues At All...Can't Argue with the VALUE FOR MONEY!!!!! – Have had this car over 2 years and serviced it on time, every time and it (touch wood) hasn't missed a beat. I've got 85xxxkms on the clock and the worst problem i have had is the steering wheel leather peel off, but that was apparently a known issue and they replaced it with a brand new version of it and its still perfect after 60xxxkms. drives like a car, i do mostly highway driving to and from work but also do a bit of town and city driving. i constantly average 750kms to a tank and ive gotten as much as 900kms before, the lowest i recorded was 550kms but i was towing a jayco swan caravan so i was still impressed. Towing was a breeze when you put it in triptronic cause i found it trying to much to drop up and down from 5 to 4 but if you see the hill coming and put it in to 4 a bit before the incline it feels so much smoother.

I've fitted an EGR blanking resistor mod and a catch can and my mechanic says my oil is cleaner than most if not all the diesels he sees in and out of his shop, these mods have stopped the sooty build up in the engine so this would the main reason that the oil is pretty clean.

I cant fault the car other than the paint job is a little thinner than i'd like but to pay only 40k and drive out with nudge bar, tonneau cover, Ute liner, tow bar and tow ball, electric brake controller and some roof racks....oh and some rubber mats i cant really complain. I plan to keep this for a long while so i can always try to sort out some paint restoration something later to spruce it up after a couple of years.

Now as the car sits after 2 years its been lifted 2 inches, triple hoop bull bar, led spotties, led lightbars, bigger tyres and still haven't paid as much as my mates navara stx which has been in twice for a rear main oil seal replacement and one of his turbos blowing

Disappointed in Mitsubishi – Nice to drive, quiet in the cab and roomy. Uses more fuel than stated, approximately 9.6lt on the highway unloaded. in high range 4WD, useless on the beach unless you want to be doing 4000RPM at 40km/h. Major design flaw is the wheel speed sensor wire that snapped in half within the first month, "must have hit a stick" was the official dealer response. Mitsubishi washed their hands of it saying they've never heard of it happening before despite it being a well documented fault in online forums. In the end I had to take them to fair trading to get a partial refund because its not covered by warranty. I was driving on a sealed road in a 4WD! The paint is already starting to fade at 6 months old even though I wash and coat it with a paint protection every fortnight. The dash inside had scratches all over it because its made from low quality plastic. The rear springs collapsed at 17000km. I've had to spend almost $8,000 on after market parts to make this car reliable - Under body armour to protect the wheel speed sensors, full rust proofing underneath, I've removed the full body tray that's rusting and replaced with an alloy tray. In hind sight I should have just bought a Hilux. The dealer didn't want to know me when I had issues and Mitsubishi are even worse. You might save a few bucks buying one of these new, but the hassles and lost time off work to fix them aren't worth it.

2016 GLS Triton - Excellent fuel economy, Great value, Its a work Ute – The Bad Firstly: - 3rd Gear would sometimes jump out of Gear, thought it may have been me shifting but seemed pretty violent when it happened, odd for such low kms, it didn't worry me as the ute is under 10 year warranty for drive line. - Left Hand Front premature wear, Mitsubishi blamed soft tires, Provided One free wheel alignment provided… Read more

sheet to show it wasn't out. They swapped to my spare, I jumped up & down.. they replaced the Tyre

- Apple car play, head-unit would sometimes have a volume issue, had to disconnect the battery to fix this as occurred a few times also talking on the phone wasn't an issue, Volume comes through the Left hand speaker however, which can be somewhat hard to hear.

- Seat belt rattles, squeaky rear suspension, instead of complaining about this I just fixed them myself, literally $25 fixed these issues.

- Hobart Dealership was atrocious to deal with, so went to Victoria & saved $5000 they flew me over then put me on the boat home (to Tasmania).

- A bit laggy down the bottom end not a bad thing once you know where the torque range is & know how to drive, knowing its a diesel this is very common thing.... Remaps are cheap from good companies that retain your factory warranty to get it on boost faster.

The Great:

- Good off road ability, I got this in places it really shouldn't have been able to go on highway terrains, the traction control & 4wd system is great.

- I paid $34000 for this car brand new, $10-$15000 less than major competitors, I think most people forget that they are paying less, if you pay $60- $70000 for a Hilux or Ranger and have any issue then you have grounds to complain.

- Fixed price Servicing.

- All these complaints about Fuel economy, I was getting on average 750 kms to a tank, best I got was 850kms to the tank (stock car nothing done at all)

- Parts are cheaper for these to Modify them.

preferred having a gear stick for the transfer case like the last model however I’ve gotten used to the dial.

This model handles better, is quieter than the previous model.

If I had a choice I would like the old 3.5l petrol instead of the diesel only due to turbo lag if not in the correct gear however the diesel gets almost double the mileage over the old petrol.

The petrol engine was a lot less complicated to service compared to all the new high output diesels on offer from various manufacturers.

The most annoying thing for me has been the seatbelt not done up chime. I just disconnected it under the drivers seat as I’m in out of the car on private property quite often.

Just recently I have a drive belt pulley bearing that’s shot however I’ll just get the dealer to replace it next service. No big deal.

So far I’ve had it 2 yrs & travelled 60k in it.

I would buy one again.

feature of the stereo system. A standout feature I like is the superselect 4x4 system, allowing us to run full time 4wd on the bitumen. This is great in the wet, cutting out the usual ute handling characteristics you get with no load in the wet. The ute returns between 8-10 L/100 on a usual commuting cycle, which i find acceptable. Whilst early on in ownership, I think what the triton offers versus other siginificantly more expensive offerings in the category is a great, and wouldnt hesitate to get another triton.

Radio , USB and bluetooth for the phone would freeze up after awhile so i had to turn the ute OFF to reset it, i told this was a common problem, waited 5 weeks for a new unit only to find it did the same thing, Mitsubishi could not care less . 16000 km seats are rattling, told by dealer they would tell Mitsubishi, Time to cut my loses a get rid of this piece crap, old saying you get what you pay for and the dealers could not give a damm. Finally now got rid of it. Dont buy anything from Island Coast Mitsubishi Tully.

For around $10k less than the bass model of most other brands I got a near top of the range Triton, and while it might not boast most of the hardcore 4x4 capabilities of the others it drives like a passenger car and… Read more

is comfortable as anything. Fuel economy isn't too bad at around 700km per tank, and while the turbo diesel isn't super quick it wasn't designed to be a race car so I don't expect it to drive like one. I'd definitely recommend the Triton to anyone.
