Motorola E398 (2004)

It's an ok phone, lasted me over 10 years, but, it came with too many uneeded extras – I was conned into buying this phone, so I was not happy in the beginning knowing I had been suckered. But over the years, it did last... I think I bought it in 2001, and it's lasted till now. As a phone for calling people and receiving calls, it's fine. The voice is clear & the speaker option works decently. Texting works fine, in and out...… Read more
however, it does not have a lot of storage and I couldn't keep a lot of messages, I had to delete messages all the time to make room for more... tho, that could have been a card capacity issue.
The thing I didn't like about this phone was all the additional MTV crap that comes with it. It takes up most of you memory space with all the useless jingles and songs it has on it, and not one of them was anything worth listening to. All the additional stuff would be nice if it could be deleted for good, but I never found a way to do so.
For about 11 years this phone was ok for me. Tho, I never did get on the internet with it or used anything other then dialing and texting really. Lasted over 10 years. Hated all the extras that came with it.
Good – The "Motorola E398" is not the most attractive phone, but it's easy to hold, the speakers are great, the sound quality is brilliant, the flash on the camera is an added bonus as lots of phones don't have a flash, and I have dropped this phone so many times but it still stays intact. The only thing I can complain about is the appearance of the… Read more
phone, and also te joy-stick thing that moves you from each application in the phone. 4 stars. The speakers are good, it's fitting and easy to hold, and the sound quality is really good. The whole appearance of the phone is a bit odd and it looks like a brick.
OK – The main selling point of this phone are the powerful speakers. The speakers are the loudest and clearest I have ever heard on a mobile phone and they really take you by surprise. The external casing of the phone feels like it is coated in rubber, making it durable and comfortable to hold. The user interface of the phone however, is a… Read more
problematic and feels rather slow and unresponsive. With MP3 and MPEG4 video playback, it's a nice phone from Motorola with a decent feature set and impressive audio quality. Powerful speakers, Comfortable to hold Slow user interface, Styling is a bit dull
OK – The Motorola E398 is a fairly good entry level phone, and when it came out it had more features than other phones on the market at the time. The Motorola E398 is a relatively good phone, good rubberised housing, takes memory cards, loud ring tones etc. You can also customise the phone in terms of wallpapers, ring tones, themes etc which is also… Read more
good. It takes a long time to turn on after you have had it off which is no good, when I used one it randomly restarted itself and rebooted. It is also hard to transfer the phone book from the phone to the sim and from the sim to the phone.
Good – I have been using Motorola E398 for last three years now and it has been a good gadget to have a hand on. The functionalities it has are comparable to the latest phones available in its category and sound is unbeatable. So overall the gadget is a worth buy. The sound of the MP3 music player is crystal clear, and being the first MP3 phone launched… Read more
in India it has astonishing sound. The dual speakers in the phone create a great music even if put on loudspeaker.
Onhe thing that no other phone has is the rythemic light feature, if you are grroving to music just switch this feature on and the phone will dance along with you. There are special lights on its sides that change colour and along with the keypad lights and screen lights, create a very good disco effect.
This phone has a micro sd card slot and memory is expandable to 1 GB
The PC interface that come along with the phone is outstanding, you can connect your phone to a laptop and send messages, transfer photos and even call using speaker and mike. The images and sounds transfered to the phone can be modified and compressed using the software. The powerpacked phone is not supported by a similar battery, I have recently changed the battery and now have a one day bakup on a two hour charging.
The cords that plug into the phone do not properly connect if there is even a little bit of dust. you need to keep your phone clean else your datacable won't work, same with your charger.
Bad – I have been using Motorola E398 for last three years now and it has been a good gadget to have a hand on. The functionalities it has are comparable to the latest phones available in its category and sound is unbeatable. So overall the gadget is a worth buy. Daniel Gara Sound price
Excellent – It is a great phone, maybe not the best out there, but still a very stylish one, that you enjoy having. It doesn't take quality pictures, but for that you can by a professional camera. With it's great speaker, and big memory card(optional) it is perfect for listening to music at the best quality. It's design is still great! It is rather old in software and does not support new java games.
Excellent – The most cheapest cellular phone with feature equal to expensive NOKIA. I suggest U to BUY motorola E398. And don't forget to, buy TV if you want to watch TV. buy RADIO FM for listening to radio. buy Camera Digital for good picture. and buy CD/DVD player to hear your CD/DVD collection [MaIDeN] You can hack the phone. You can unlock the hidden… Read more
feature such voice recording, you can delete unwanted files (default ringtones ect)to save the space. Even you can change the IMEI or do the nice one, upgrade the software to V series or higher E series. Motorola E398 = LINUX and NOKIA = windows. You can't watch TV,listen to radio fm, make the motorola E398 as your photography tools, you can't hear the music as your original CD/DVD
OK – I think Motorola should improve their customer service first, then I might actually recommend their phones but not before. The camera and sound quality of the MP3 player really bring it up. Simple, stylish design with a large bright screen. The MP3 player has an awesome stereo sound quality and the camera has inbuilt flash! Also, the memory can be… Read more
expanded. I would say the very few cons this phone has are that you can't record videos, it has no FM radio and the joystick becomes really frustrating to use when it doesn't do what you want it to. The charger is very good either and customer service...it's bad.
Good – over all its a good phone its my third camera phone in 1 year and its the best so far and it is a good phone for tits price range the only phones ive seen that are better are about $700 the good things about it are the mp3 player, the speakers, the big screen, the camera (it flash and its zoom) downloadable games, ringtones and themes, it feels… Read more
good with its rubberish finish, the loud speaker is pretty good, and its easy to txt to. the crappy charging and the fact that it dosnt have a radio or video recorder.
Bad – After it broke not very happy The phone in general is good. The lights and mp3 player are good and you can put your own things to it I had the phone for a month and then I tried to send a message and the screen froze and the phone is now a dud. It wont turn on. Very Very bad as there is no way to fix the problem except if you have a warranty get a new one.Just hope the same thing doesnt happen again
Bad – Motorola e398 is overall ok but it has many disadvantages like no video, audio recording, no sign of radio but advantages like 4x zoom camera, sterio speakers. Its weight is about 108g We can add storage device. It has sterio 22khz speakers with lots of polyphonic ringtones. Camera with 4x zoom. Vibrator. Great polyphonic headset. Bluetooth. Usb… Read more
cable.MMS, Wap, GPRS. We can not make videos, record Sound. No radio. no infrared. its casing cannot be changed.
OK – It's quite good for an average user, but for someone who needs to transfer a lot of MP3's or photo usage, this is not a very quick phone for them. Good size, Good Feel, easy navigation, nice sound and sleek enough. charging pins tends to get loose after charging so many times, and slowly the connection to pins doesn't charge properly. Charging pin design is not very good. Transfer rate of MP3 is very slow from PC to phone.
OK – with its large screen the E398 is easy to see, and the menu is easy to navigate through for basic functions but can be confusing for the average end user. unfortunately a lot of people find the phone unatractive, but if your not one of them, and want a basic MP3 playing phone thats groovy to take out, the E398 is for you. large screen MP3 … Read more
