Motorola MBP28

It's dreadful! – Pulled it back out for my second baby (4 years after my 1st) and remembered why I stopped using it after a month in the first place. The battery life sucks, the alert for when it's too cold can't be turned off (i rug my baby up) or any beeping of it at all, the time from the baby starts making noise to when it actually comes through the monitor is… Read more
not instant and cuts out alot and the visual is all pixilated and fuzzy. The ease of setup was the only good thing about it. Discontinued but don't buy second hand if your considering it
Had no issues great monitor – Did the job well No interference and good colour monitor Also has good night vision and takes Up minimal space which is important to me. The other good thing is it’s easy to use and set up. The features are good that it alerts me when it’s low battery and I used the room temp pretty much every day. Two way communication handy!
Don't waste your money – Signal drops out randomly, especially when it's near a microwave or mobile phone. Battery life is basically non existent. It basically needs to be plugged in all the time otherwise it runs out too fast. Video feed drops out A LOT, sound also drops out a lot.... at night it randomly beeps saying it has no signal which wakes me up... I get woken up… Read more
at night enough, I don't need this too. I really hate it. I had a cheap, non video monitor for my first baby and I would take that over this any day!!
Worked well then had issues – Monitor was great at first then the problems started. Signal would drop out several times over night. The image quality is now black and white 2D and I can barely make out anything. Thermometer is out a few degrees. I do like the noise gate. I wouldn't recommend this baby monitor for its price you can do better.
Was fine for about a year – I didn't have any complaint for the first year. Video and audio was pretty good. Vox function handy. Battery life was pretty good would last during hubs day naps (always had plugged in overnight) BUT the loud beeps when pushing any button (for volume etc) can be annoying in the middle of the night when you want to turn the monitor down to watch… Read more
if baby will self settle the beeps are very loud and always disturbed my partner .
But now i am having constant issues. The monitor loses connection multiple times during the day or night. It currently wakes me more than my baby does! Also there is a temperature alarm when the monitor hits 15 degrees. It will beep every 10 to 20 seconds until the room is warmer! Frustrating that i have to get up in the middle of the night to turn the heater on for the sake of the baby monitor. Nevermind the added electricity bill for the sake of the monitor. Bub sleeps comfortably at low temperature. It would be good if you could turn the temperature function off.
The speaker has also started to play up.
The battery won't even last me unplugging it and walking 10 metres from the lounge to bedroom. This then results in more loud beeping!
Will be purchasing another monitor as a result and can't wait to never hear its annoying beeps again.
You cannot turn the sound alarm off, be warned – There was nowhere in my babies room this could be plugged in safely without the temperature sensor being triggered. This then sounds an alarm which cannot be turned off. I had this 24 hrs and it woke me more than the baby did. I am not a bad parent - I use a heatermate to ensure my babies room is a suitable temperature. This is the worst… Read more
feature of a baby monitor I could think of, thus I returned it and bought something else. One good feature is that the baby unit can be moved in all directions to help get the best angle for the best view.
DO NOT BUY THIS!!! – For some reason this monitor had ok reviews. I have no idea why! The screen is small and the video quality is very average. I constantly get huge coloured squares throughout the screen which distorts the view. The sound quality is ok, but you can't have the sound without the video. The batteries that come with it are terrible, I think i got… Read more
an hour of use before I had to plug it in, before I changed batteries.
IT BEEPS SO LOUDLY WHEN YOU TURN IT ON!!! Too bad if you want to keep your baby sleeping as it wakes up the WHOLE HOUSE!!!
There is a temperature alarm which I appreciate, BUT IT DOESNT TURN OFF OR DISABLE!!! It will be 15 degrees and my son is nice and cosy warm in his cot but it CONSTANTLY LOUDLY BEEPS if the temp is under 16. WAKES ME UP AT 3AM AND I REACH OVER AND TURN THE STUPID THING OFF!!! which defeats the whole purpose of using the monitor in the first place!! And then if I want to turn it back on IT BEEPS SO LOUDLY!!!! AARG!!!!
There is a lullaby feature, where you can play "calming" music. More like they gave a 5 year old a xylophone and told them to go for it!! Plus you have to play this from the actual camera unit, so you have to go in to your distressed baby, and distress them even more and push the button above their cot. Well done motorola...
And the temperature displays when you first turn it on, but to see it again you have to fiddle with the buttons and EVERY BUTTON MAKES A HORRIBLE LOUD NOISE!!! So much for adjusting the settings without waking up your husband next to you who has to wake up in a few hours for a 12 hour work day!
Thanks for nothing motorola, WORST PURCHASE EVER!!!! Not much. You can see the baby at times, I guess that's a good thing.... Where to start. I don't think whoever designed this product has children. Extremely expensive for what it does. LOUD ANNOYING ALARMS THAT WAKE YOU UP AND YOU CANNOT TURN OFF OR DISABLE!!!!!
Great if you don't like static! – As a light sleeper, I love the fact that the sound on this monitor only kicks in once it reaches a certain decibel. I hate the constant static that you get with other monitors and like that I only hear when my baby is actually crying. The range is good, and despite what other reviewers have said, i thought that the video quality is pretty good for… Read more
the price you pay (I have nothing to compare it to though!). Battery life is pretty bad if you keep the video screen turned on the parent unit, but I just keep it turned off until I need to look at it and then it lasts for ages. Temperature gauge is great and reassuring to know how warm/cold baby's room is. Don't like that you can't turn off the tones that beep when you press buttons on the parent unit. Price, features, video quality, range, no static Battery life when video turned on, can't turn off tones when buttons are pushed
Come on Motorola! You can do better for $150! – I have a Philips SCD600 (it works perfectly) and this Motorola was for the room where my boy will be sleeping in his cot during day time. I paid $90 (toyrus sale) for it and after one day (night and day usage) use, I returned it to toyrus. The problems. 1. The night vision does not work! It was just showing a reddish screen. It has 4 Infra… Read more
Red lights which is much lesser than my SCD600(which has 8 or 9 I think). Decided to give it another chance since my original intention was for day time nap room. the day nap room was not total darkness but the blind was down. And the screen was still reddish in color! but I can make out the shape of the cot. Put my son down for his day nap and can see the Shape of him standing up in the cot but the moment he lies down, I can't figure out his position in the cot not to mention if he is blinking when he was facing the camera(SCD600 was able to do that)! This is how bad the camera is even in daytime (with the blinds down).
How can you expect a consumer to pay $150 and have this kind of video quality?!? I understand this is not a high end product but $150 is some decent money! I'm so glad I paid only$90 and managed to get a refund.
2. It does not have the automated voice activated screen function. Meaning you have to have the parent unit screen on all the time if you are a little paranoid like me. I like to see what is happening if there are any sounds coming from his room.
3. The battery pack is of such poor quality! It is not like those lithium battery pack which you can just slot it in. It is a battery with 2 wires sticking out from it and has a connector which you push into the other connector of the parent unit.
4. The lullaby can only be activated at the camera unit and not by the parent unit. I don't quite care for it but some parents may do.
5. It does not have the noise level indicator. Sometimes when I choose to turn down the volume of the parent unit (so that I don't get startled by my boy's screaming), I still like to see how loud is the noise.
I can't say much about the sensitivity of the unit as I only use it for a day. My boy loves crying out loud before he goes to bed so I don't know how this unit perform if you baby is not as loud as my boy.
If you use this video in a room with light, the picture quality is very acceptable but I wonder how many babies sleep in a well-lit room!
the screen is kind of tiny compared to my SCD600. but hey it's much cheaper than the sCD600. It shows the temperature of room which is quite accurate as I compared it to my Avent room thermometer. It has those 2 way communication function. The night vision is hopeless!
Very average camera – I bought this monitor because I needed a monitor that was reasonably priced and that would accept multiple cameras. I was prepared to pay more but found it very hard to find the additional cameras for the higher end models, they were sold out online. I ended up walking into Toys R Us and buying this and 2 additional cameras from the baby section. … Read more
First the good points.
This monitor has good range - I have a 2 storey house, and it works perfectly fine upstairs. It even works perfectly outside, I often take the monitor out into the backyard to watch the children play as the baby naps and the signal is fine upto 30 m.
There is no static or background noise - which is great if you dont want to hear crackling while you sleep. Very good sound. I use the two way radio with my toddler - and its very useful to gently tell her to get back into bed or reassure her if she wakes early.
Good battery power on the parent handset - it recharges when you plug it back into the wall.
Now the bad bits.
This monitor has terrible video. The screen is tiny and so pixellated, sometimes its hard to make out my toddler in the bed 1.5m away! I wasnt even that worried about about good vision because my children are older, but this wouldnt work if you had a small baby - with the advances to screen technology, you probably wont be happy with this.
Secondly, the camera units dont take batteries. This means you have cords draped everywhere and are limited to where you can place you camera.
Thirdly, the sound only works when your camera is on the monitor. This is a big fault for my needs. I have older children, who call out for Mum at night. On multiple camera view, you will only hear sound from the camera on the screen. If you have 3 cameras it can be over a minute before the camera switches back over to your original camera. A small child calling randomly out can easily be missed, causing unnecessary worry for them when you dont answer. The camera should be sound activated in multiview, but its not.
Would I buy this monitor?
Only if you have older children, and having good range and low static is important to you.
Otherwise, Id search for a higher end model with a better screen. Excellent range, great sound and two way, cheaper end video monitor Poor vision, cameras not sound activated in multi view
