Miserable Product – All Motorola baby monitors suck! I currently have my 5th monitor, which means I've had to deal with their customer support more than anyone should have to. Now it's broken again (loses connection, randomly turns off, scan stops working, loses sound). This has been what happens to every single monitor. They even upgraded me this last time because… Read more

there were so many issues and yet here I am dealing with all the same nonsense again. Then they have zero sympathy for the fact that the only time I can call for assistance is when my kids are sleeping. I've been through this 5 times, I know how to do a master reset, so why do I have to do it with you again over the phone? I can't get to the camera right now and the camera is not where the issue is!! Whatever you do, DO NOT but a Motorola monitor

Stopped working properly after 3 months - no warranty support – simply - Do not buy this monitor, you will regret it! It will break within 6 months and you will be stuck with a malfunctioning camera Cant get a refund or a return - they want to spend 6 weeks fixing it, not a great option for anyone. There is nothing more to say about how bad this product is, but i have to write at least fifty words.

MBP854CONNECT Looses connection for no reason in the middle of the night then beeps constantly – Waste of money. Has good features (picture quality, good sound, directional etc) but sometimes fails to connect with camera and beeps constantly till you get up and turn it off which defeats purpose of having a monitor. I have approached support but useless and have done nothing. Had an old Motorola which worked well for 3 years but then died.

Rubbish – Sound & image quality are ok, the wires are a bit limiting but ok, it’s terrible: whenever i open it it gives me this fake cry of my baby’s voice!!!! It opens on its own when u start charging it!!!! It’s battery life is very bad!! Its low battery sound is awful it wakes up the baby in next room... simply don’t buy thus rubbish, in the end it was $260!!!!

Please wait.... Connecting to camera – I have been using it for 6mths now, cant have volume up as it picks up a lot of interference regardless of where i put it, and if my partner or myself try to use our phones to view it we just get screen saying " please wait connecting to camera" then it works for 2 secs and goes back to msg, doesn't matter where in house we are, our wifi isnt an issue for anything else as its super quick. I suggest you try a different camera.

Disappointed! Earlier Models much better night vision and camera panning – The night vision is terrible compared to previous models. I have had MBP36 & MBP36s which I loved, the night vision on this one is fuzzy and blurry at times and not clear. Trying to pan the camera into the spot you want is hard also as you can press the left or right or up/down buttons quickly to move a little and it moves all the way across to… Read more

the other side. It also has a delayed movement after pressing the arrows so you dont know if it is going to move.

Trying to get this returned to the online shop for a refund. (Which is extremely difficult also)

Okay but expensive for what it does and could have easily been much better – Overall summary - It took 6 months from time of order until the product arrived. The shop lent us a cheaper instock baby cam that was actually better in most ways but did not have the internet connection. - There are significantly cheaper units that have most of the functionality but not the web interface. If you want to be able to check on your… Read more

child via the web then this is it. If not then I would go for something else

- The camera hardware seems to be reasonably good quality. The picture quality is good (even in the dark) and the sound is passable.

- The monitor is a bit rubbish compared to cheaper systems but still functions reasonably and does not have a dock!

- The software including apps is okay but has many flaws and I am worried that if motorola decide to stop supporting it a big portion of this product could be made unusable.

- The display battery lasts a couple of hours with regular use (and the screen on). Note: Battery comes with 60 day warranty! Hmmm.

I have split the detailed review in 3. The camera, display and software

Detail on the camera

The good

- The picture quality is reasonably good. (Even in the dark)

- The remote control can be useful

- The temperature monitoring is good

- It is possible to connect directly to it with network video player (VLC). (Note: This is NOT a simple task and not publicly documented by the manufacturer!!!)

- The remote checking and alerts are quite nice especially when one is out and the baby is being looked after by someone else.

The bad

- The camera can not look down far enough so this can not be placed on a flat surface next to the cot looking down unless it is on the other side of the room! (I have used duct tape to stick it to the wall)

- The remote control is slow to respond

- There is a second + long delay on the video/audio feed even when you connect directly to the camera! Note: The handheld monitor does not connect via the wifi!

- The audio range is not as good as the video range when using the hand held display.

- There are 5 playable melodies which are great if your baby likes repetitive piano music. (Ours does not)

- The talk-back feature doesn't really seem to work

Detail on the display

The good

Not many positives for the cost. It works and has about a 20m range. Though the audio isn't as far as video

The frustrating thing is that it is so nearly there. It just seems like the skimped on the monitor.

I tend to use my mobile phone instead.

The bad

- The warranty on the non-removable battery is 60 days. That does not inspire me with confidence!!!

- It takes a while to boot up

- The display is un-viewable in daylight

- It only tells you if the video feed is lost so we didn't realise the audio had dropped out and the display turns the video off after 5 mins so our baby was essentially unmonitored (and screaming when we went to check on her after 15mins)

- It looks a bit like a cheap knock-off

- The touch buttons on the side are a little too easy to accidentally activate.

- It doesn't have a charging dock/cradle. Why not? Most products that cost 1/4 the price do!

- It does not/can not use the wifi router in the house to connect which means that range can not be extended this way.

The software (Hubble)

The good

- It was reasonably simple to set up and log in.

- There are apps for both iphone and Android

- It sends notifications if your child makes too much noise, moves too much, etc

The bad

- Both the Iphone and android apps crash. Frequently.

- The video rate is slow and takes a while to connect

- When using local wifi the app still gets its video feed via the internet! This seems pointless and means that the app will become unusable if Motorola decide to stop supporting this system.

- The desktop version does not allow you to adjust the size of the video window and it takes up most of the screen.

- It is possible to talk directly to the camera using apps like VLC if you can figure it out however, this is not documented by Motorola at all. Presumably so they can sell extras through their web portal?!
