Motorola Moto G (2nd Generation)

Great as everything Motorolla – I've had this phone for a few years now and do not have one complain. Great. Perfect. Yes i know it's a bit old now but i have no reason to replace it! Just update the system regularly, that's all. Dual sim is convinient, sometimes i use second sim overseas. I love the size of this phone, big enough but not too big, fits nicely in the pocket.… Read more
Durable phone ( i droped it a few times and no consequenses ). And did i mention scratch resistant screen? Motorolla rules!
Really good mid range mobile – This phone worked well straight out of the box.I beleave it was a display model so the price may reflect that.If you are looking for a smart phone with a 5" screen and an 8mb camera with 32GB extra storage and running Android6 then you can't look for a better option. grimee Show details
Motorola's comeback – Bottom line: Great phone for good price that I feel does what all those other android phones do! The long bit: Motorola's definitely made a comeback in the mobile phone world with the Moto G. It's also good enough for me to have bought the 2nd Gen after the screen of my 1st Gen smashed spectacularly (don't let this put you off - it was dropped… Read more
many, many times, so it had a fair few dents in it before the screen eventually broke up with me).
It's bigger than 1st gen - which I'm not as keen on (girly hands syndrome), however it's still so worth it - it's cheap (in comparison to all those phone that have a $1b ad campaign behind them) and does the same job as far as I can tell. I've bought a case this time, so the screen is still in tact after a fair few drops and skimmings across tiled floors. I have two sim cards so the dual sim card feature is a huge bonus for me!
They've massively improved the camera quality in gen2 - not it's not 10 gazillion pictures but I use it all the time and for day to day I'm more than happy with it.
The phone's memory isn't huge (8gb I think?) so I find myself backing up photos/videos a lot - there is the option to put in a microSD card in it however (I just havn't got round to it).
Someone once told me Google (who essentially owns Android) also bought Motorola which means it' pretty up to date with the OS. However - keep in mind with 3rd Gen now out, that it only goes up to Android 5.0. I know I was ahead in versions compared to my friends on Samsungs for example. Occasionally the OS goes a bit crazy or freezes, but it's rare, and tends to be when it's low on battery (there's a option to minimise use of battery after 15% to conserve energy, if you're out for example - I think this is why it slows everything down).
The battery is your average 1 day life span before it needs refuelling - pretty standard these days.
It might be worth noting I first bought a Moto G to replace an iphone I lost travelling...also worth noting, I got over not having an iPhone ;)
The Pros:
- Big fan of dual sim
- Good price for what you get!
- Good OS updates
- Extra storage option (microSD)
- Very compatible with google products (being owned by them n all, it should be)
The Cons:
- Bigger than I'd like, making it less easy to handle with one hand
- Small on the memory side (8gb) *but there is MicroSD option*
- A bit slow sometimes, but not enough to bother me
Conclusion
I think it's a bit of a bargain - I havn't seen it advertised anywhere which makes me think they saved the $1b Ad price tag and passed on the savings to the consumer? I'll be looking at Gen3 when I get bored (or lose/break it...which is more likely), but in the meantime, it's a happy buy!
What a Little Bewdy!! – Optus who had my contract with the phone I had (read my review HTC One) were unhelpful regarding upgrading so I made a decision to purchase an unblocked phone so I could go prepaid after my contract ran out. I checked out reviews and pricing and found that the Motorola Moto G got very good reviews but was very reasonably priced. I picked one up… Read more · 2
new from Office Works for $180 - bonus! I placed my Optus SIM in my new phone and viola! As the Moto G is able to utilise two SIM's I purchased a BOOST so I could use different SIM's if I was having difficulty with data in an area. After my contract with Optus expired I transferred my old contact number to a new SIM from Amaysim, I have not looked back. The Moto G does everything I need, everything and great photos! Reviews I have read regarding the Moto G phone state that the camera is adequate yet I have found no discernible difference between my old HTC One or any of my friends phones which seem to be predominantly, Samsung or Apple. I have two SIMs, loads of data, using my laptop right now connected through my Moto G. Battery lasts forever, not quite forever. :) It is just a wonderful phone to use and I would never spend the money that other phone manufacturers ask for their phones.
Easy to use and reliable – The Moto G is as near to stock Android as you can get without getting a Nexus (and yes I have two of those). While not the lightest or slimmest phone around it feels good in the hand and has good clarity and excellent reception. On top of this it has very good battery life, and the ability to take two sim cards at once, so if you are in… Read more
business it is ideal. We have used it for over a year without the slightest misstep. It also gets regular Android updates - currently Android 4 Lollipop.
Absolutely great phone! – Been using this phone for a couple of weeks now and its great. Call quality is great, and even without 4G the internet, Facebook etc. is fast (on Telstra network). With a quad core processor performance is great. There's no lag to speak of and the Lollipop update hasn't changed things any. Haven't used the dual sim side yet but its handy little… Read more
feature. Also stock Android is great. Everything you need and nothing you don't. Hopefully there will be more software updates coming.
Downsides? Well the silent mode is gone, but that's a Lollipop issue more than anything. Also there aren't heaps of accessories around but that's a small price to pay. My advice is buy this phone if you can.
The best in it's price point – So many great things I can say about this phone but I'll keep it as basic as I can. To keep the price down the phone internals are similar to what you got when you bought a flagship phone 2 years ago. It should be able to handle all your basic tasks, most 3D games and a little bit more without any problems. The only issue I had was… Read more
multi-tasking between more than one memory intensive apps. There was a slight lag but this was due to the 1GB or ram but once the app was loaded everything was smooth.
The 8MP back and 2MP front camera simply put is similar to the iPhone 4S. Photos in general came out good, not over processed and details were enough. The camera app is super simple so if you want effects you will have to look elsewhere. You get the usual HDR, Panorama and slo-mo and touch to focus and light metering.
The display is a 5 inch IPS LCD, 720 x 1280 at 294 PPI. It's crisp with great viewing angles and good colour reproduction and the pixel density is high enough you won't notice any pixels even when you view up close.
The phone design feels good in the hand it has a matt rubbery plastic back which makes it easier to hold. Even though the phone is plastic it does not feel cheap, it is solid and there is no creaking noise when you squeeze the phone. You get the latest Gorilla Glass 3 for the screen. There are three buttons on the right side, a volume rocker and the power button. Two front facing speaker on the front so you get stereo sound when hold the phone in landscape.
Other things to add is the dual sim card holder, 8GB or internal memory with a expandable memory card slot, removal battery. Because it's Motorola it's running the latest version of Android "Lollipop" and you will get future updates sooner than the other brands.
I have had this phone for a month at the time of this review so far I have been really impressed with it. If you are a light to medium user with a budget of $200-$300 you won't find anything better.
so far so good – I have only had this phone for a week. Its a second gen model.....it is really good. Its fast, has good Bluetooth in the car, excellent voice quality, fast internet (on boost network), and no lag time. Its all round good and very good value.
Absolutely great! – Finally , like the dinosaur that I am, I succumbed to replacing my fantastic Nokia 6131 with a new " smart " phone. This Motorola Moto G 2nd Gen from the Good Guys @ $248 and is just great. I was familiar with the Android OS so after reading a few reviews in both magazines and online I bought this and am blown away just how good it is for the… Read more
price. If you are are just an ordinary user like me this phone will do everything you ask of it and at a price that I think is hard to beat. So far no glitches or any problems whatsoever. It's like a good Mac....it just works! Excellent!!
This review is for the GEN 2 released September 2014. 5" Screen. Totally Amazed – As the heading states, this is for the brand new model. @ $248 out right from Good Guys, this phone is amazing. I had an iPhone5s and going to Android was scaring me, but this thing is 10 times better, faster and the camera is amazing. Dual sim means I can be a Baller :) 8gb internal is small, but there is a micro SD slot for 32gb. I still can't believe the price. Only down side is Battery Life and the Battery not being removable.
Very good for its value – This review will discuss the Moto G 4G. The Moto G is a good phone - its resolution is sufficient, battery life is amazing and gets sluggish very rarely. It cannot compete with top-end phones like the G3, Nexus 5 and S5, but it doesn't cost the same either. Its design is beautiful an the curvy back makes all the difference. It runs Kitkat (4.4)… Read more
and Motorola has also promised that the next update (L) will be eventually pushed.
However, one must take special precaution to choose his desired phone, as there are several models of the Moto G. As I have stated before, this review refers to the 4G model (different screen size than the 2nd generation I think - 4.5'' vs. 5'').
Excellent value – I bought the Moto G 2nd. gen and was truly blown away by it's intuitive software and easy to use features. Had a dual sim Galaxy before and there is just no comparison, the Moto G is way more easy to use, does not drop out, is very fast and most of all a delight to use. Highly recommended especially with the new 8 megapixel camera and 5 inch display.
