MTM 72SX

MTM SX62 – Have been impressed with this MTM since the day I received it, at least 4 years old. Starts easily, always has. split in half, totally worn out. Cuts dry and green wood with the 22” bar without any problems. Have a second SX62 as a spare backup, as they are so in expensive to purchase , but have only used it twice. Very happy with my MTM’s. Another 12 months has passed and still going well. Cutting dry hardwood and green pine, using most of the 22” bar. Second saw still hasn’t been used.

Decent gutsy chainsaw – Purchased the MTM SX72 chainsaw nearly 2 years ago I have to say this chainsaw is definitely a good bit of kit for the dollars. chain tensioner setup is a little dicky. With a little mod I think this could be overcome. I would have no problem at all in the future purchasing another MTM chainsaw.

Great for a paper weight – Fuel leak straight out of the box. Chain adjuster cross threaded. Ran well for the first two hours that’s the only positive thing I have to say about this saw. Fell for cheap price and bar size. Will not again. Show details

other saws and this one has, so far, really lmpressed me, I run 95 though 91 is probably ok but I use 95 syn OIL

Buy knowing you’ll be looked after – Great chainsaw I purchased it for my dad I purchased one years ago and it’s lasted all theses years, starts just as easy as the first day I luv them, don’t be fooled they are great chainsaw’s & buy from Edison’s they’ll look after you. Show details ·  1

Excellent saw brilliant value – Not seeing a primer bulb did have me thinking about starting but starting was not a problem even from new , I cut big logs and does it with ease, you don’t need to try to hard it does it brilliantly, running the saw in does actually make it a better and more reliable saw , the air filter upgrade was a big thing for me as the older filters did let… Read more ·  1

a lot of fine dust enter the carby, so well done , in whole it’s a brilliant unit and would not hesitate to purchase another , in addition the eazy start system works a treat , services are a breeze and a must like all tools also running 95-98Ron fuel and good quality synthetic oil is a must for performance and reliability, thanks again for a great saw .ps just change the spark plug for a good quality one , just go over the saw making sure all nuts bolts etc are tight , repeat after each service.

is cheap, quite a lot of stretch and doesn't stay sharp, but that's easy to replace with a good quality chain. The saw is supposed to be 72cc, it is not! by my calculation its 56cc maybe 58 (measured the bore and stroke but not very accurately), but that's still ok, I was expecting it to be less than 72, still has enough power for my needs, which are mostly cutting firewood. Update: I have noticed that the main ebay-au seller of these saws has updated its listings to show realistic cc's, the 72SX is still called the 72SX but the cc is stated as 58cc.

Best cheap saw out – Starts easy, cuts like a beast and outshines plenty of saws 7-10x the price. Engine size chews the gas a bit and it goes through bar oil a bit more liberally than other saws but I had read that in other reviews. Plenty good value for the price and you can pick up chains for $15. Cuts well through Aussie hardwoods. I’ve run it for 10+ hours no issues  Show details

Does the job well – OK, my first caveat for this review is that I have only had one major outing in the forest with this chainsaw, but it was firewood collecting in the Forrest. Cutting Jarrah. Starts really easily, really happy with the speed of cutting. It could be a tuning issue but it does seem to go through a lot of fuel, and I was using it straight out of the box.

It worth watching a few of the Utube videos regarding 2 stroke mixing for these MTM saw's The manual says 25:1 mix but that smokes a lot, 40:1 with good quality oil gives a bit my grunt and no smoke.(tip I picked up from the tube vid's)

The initial setup was a bit fiddly. The online manual isn't the greatest help. I went with the 72sx as opposed to the 62 as it has a proper air filter and a bit more power. mine has the 22" blade. Just as a general observation although most of the plastic seems solid enough, there are some bits like the choke handle that looks flimsy (time will tell)

Over all after cutting through a trailer load of wood cannot really fault it, so happy [I will be back to update after I have had it for a bit longer and a few more trailers of wood]
