Terrible product! – I purchased the Neutrogena Oil-free acne wash pink grapefruit foaming scrub earlier this week, washed my face in the shower the first night with it and woke up the next morning with my skin feeling a little irritated, anyway, went about my day at work as it was bearable, by that afternoon when I got home the skin on my cheeks and nose was… Read more

burningggggg! Like on fire! So i got in the shower and used it again on my face not thinking it could have been that until afterward and my whole face was red, irritated, hot and burning! I had to use a cold facewasher so help settle my skin! I have never reacted to a skincare product like this and my skin is far from sensitive, absolutely would NOT recommend this product, it's bloody awful and shouldn't be on the shelves! It's now in the bin where it belongs!

MASSIVE WARNING WARNING - CAUSES BAD ALLERGIC REACTION – I purchased the Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash pink grapefruit foaming scrub product in March 2023. Rather than post a negative review, I contacted Johnson and Johnson (head company of Neutrogena) via the complaints website and provided a full history of the allergic reaction as below. I was asked to call them to discuss, which I did, and I was… Read more

then asked for my address I was promised a letter responding to my complaint. I have followed up several times with no reply and no letter, so I will now make it my mission to warn as many people as possible to avoid this product at all costs. If anyone is interested in bringing class action against Johnson and Johnson for continuing to sell a product known to be harmful, please contact me.

The day after using the product, I began to experience very itchy eyes and woke up the following morning with red swollen eyes. I tried a 0.5% hydrocortisone cream after researching product allergies online but this had no effect. As the condition worsened over the following days, and I also noticed dry flaky skin on other areas of my face I consulted a Doctor and was prescribed with a stronger cortisone product. This also had no effect other than to burn the skin around my eyes. I continued using the scrub, not knowing that this was the irritant, and I purchased a number of other eye calming and face wash products to try and sooth the burning and itching, including eczema and dermatitis products, not knowing what the issue was.

When I realized that the scrub was the irritant, I researched reviews online and learned that hundreds of women over many years have had the same problem. Not only has this been the case since the release of the product in about 2006, as I understand it, but this has been brought to Neutrogena/Johnson and Johnson's attention many times including via Neutrogena's Instagram page, yet the product continues to be sold and Neutrogena is standing by the products. This is applicable to the face wash and other products containing these harmful ingredients:

Cocaimopropyl betaine Propylene glycol Benzalkonium chloride Methylisothiazolinone

The links below are only a few of the articles that I found online regarding the harm that these products have caused, however, I am certain that Neutrogena/Johnson and Johnson are already aware of the same. I am in my 40's and have been using all manner of products on my face since my teens, from high end to drug store, and have never experienced any prior allergic reactions, nor do I have sensitive skin. It is entirely shameful that Johnson and Johnson are continuing to produce and sell these products, although unsurprising given Johnson and Johnson's dark history.

Be careful! – After using Oil-Free Acne Wash pink grapefruit foaming scrub for the second time I woke the next morning with swelling around the eyes. As the day went on the discomfort increased with dryness increasing on cheeks, chin and nose. By day three I woke with very swollen eyes and welts. Day four eyes are still swollen, welts have gone down but… Read more

intense dryness persists. I am very disappointed in this product and more so in Neutrogena. I have been doing some reading and complaints about this product causing these exact symptoms have been in circulation since 2012! This review requires a star rating but I rate this product a zero.

Do Not Use!! – The first day I used this product my face felt a little dry so I waited till next night to use again. The second night I used it I woke up in the morning and my face was red, burned and irritated. This burn was so bad I found myself trying to find anything to relieve the pain nothing worked. After second day of having this burn I started breaking out with little white zits everywhere. Worst product ever save yourself the pain. Show details

The scent makes it better than the basic formulation – Ok so just to give everyone a quick background, acne has been a part of my life. I've been dealing with them since I was teenager and I still have them now. I get really bumpy when it's the time of the month and this is a product I go to everytime that happens. When I know that it's about to come, I use this the entire week and I see A LOT of changes. I love this. Show details

Lovely smell and your face feels clean – I have terrible skin (pimples etc) but the Neutrogena range seems to keep in check for most of the time. My daughter also loves using this product, it's a little expensive at $15 but Coles does have specials occasionally so good to grab it then! Show details
