and if taken care of will last you over a decade. Only one thing I would like to add, I would much prefer to be able to adjust the way the air flows. Other than that I would recommend this to everyone that's looking to buy a portable air conditioning unit.

Good for defined rooms only – We got ours secondhand after minimal use by first owner. Seems to work great. We just would have it in a smaller room if we could. We bought a kogan also to combine cool our openended rental house. Its a bit bulky and oddly shaped so doesnt fit cosily anywhere. (Found out that portables need approx 1metre of space because of hose).

But as stand alone would be aesthetically fine.

We have emptied it once. Was a warning msg on screen. (It kept running though). Husband i lifted onto bench. Apparently it says could be 500ml come out we barely got 100ml. Its pretty light for its size but i did ponder if i was frail person how realistic the process of draining tray would be.

The vent size on ours isnt fully open on the inside we can see that one side in particular has the foam covering approx 2inches which means air coming out is not as we would predict.

Is great for a smaller or contained room.

Barely adequate – Struggles to lower the temp of a 4m x 4.5m room more than a few degrees. (Makes no impression on a larger room.) The 'window air conveyor outlet' connection to exhaust pipe is flimsy and liable to fall off when attempting to move the unit even slightly.

If you are offered one of these for nothing, it can help you to get to sleep by blowing cold air directly on to you (with assistance of a flattened cereal box). Noting that if it is set on the timer it will make a loud 'clunk' as it switches off which may wake you.

Portable Air-Con In Our Bedroom – We used this most of the time in our bedroom and it did an admiral job. You just hook the window pipes up and away you go! It even come with a simple remote control so I can turn it off and on without getting out of bed. It put out more cold air than I expected from such a neat little machine and was not too noisy - I could sleep with it on just fine. Good unit!  Show details

Great for bedroom – As we have no internal cooling system at home I bought one of these units to cool the bedroom to make sleeping easier during the very hot Perth summer nights, and what a great unit it is. I put it on an hour or so before going to bed and come into a nice cool room prime for sleeping. Highly recommended :)  Show details

Great for small apartments – This is a great portable air conditioner for rooms and small apartments. Although it does an excellent job at cooling down the room it’s in, the air fails to travel as far as advertised. Additionally, the unit can get quite loud at times due to the compression of air. Perfect solution – My parents have recently sold and currently renting until they find their next dream home. The master bedroom doesn't have an air conditioner so I started researching this portable air con and weighing up the pros and cons decided upon the Olimpia Splendid Piu. Ineffective – Very disappointed with this unit given the price and performance claims made by the manufacturer. hot exhaust limits the portability of any such unit. The instructions aren’t great but setup is relatively straight forward. Compared to other units, the PIU is relatively quiet but it would be too noisey to leave on whilst sleeping. Suggest that consumers look for alternatives unless you’re prepared to sit directly in front of the unit to obtain any real benefit.

Powerful and not too noisy – This air conditioner is a work horse. I've left it on for hours at a time and never had a problem. A lot of portable air cons are really noisy....this is bearable. It won't cool a huge room but if you sit near it in a large room you feel good. In a smaller room it will cool the entire room but I would find it too noisy in an enclosed space. Not bad at all – I was doing shift work and was sweating buckets during the heat wave in Queensland. I ended up going out and buying one of these units. It's a good bit better than what I thought it would be. It cools down my room quickly, and although it's loud compared to units in the walls, it does ok. without insulation and with leaky windows, which is understandable, but it's definitely a keeper for the bedroom. It's pretty easy to assemble and connect up as well.

Mediocre – I actually liked this product for the price that I paid for. The actual air was surprisingly quite cool, I liked the product for the price I paid. I upgraded to a split system later; but with that comes a higher price tag of around $2500/3000. All in all I would rate this Olimpia GOOD.  Show details

It's good but not the best – First of all, i would like to say something about Olimpia. Olimpia make good products and not crappy ones. But if we talk about this particular product, i'd say that the product could've been better. The design of the product is not so good, the cooling is quite good but again i'd say that it's not the best in this price range so maybe you might want to try something else and not fall for this one.  Show details

Okay though nothing special – I purchased the olympia splendid piu 14 for summertime when a fan just wasnt cutting it anymore. Installation is quite easy, just attach the big pipe to the air con and then to the attachments that go onto the window. and then im ready to go. Its easily portable from room to room if need be. I have a 2 bedroom unit and the system stays in my lounge room. I don't feel it cools any other room down only the lounge if anything the kitchen may be a little cooler. In 40 degree weather we have to shut all the doors in the lounge and my partner still stands in front of it. Sometimes we have tried to turn it up even though its on the highest level.Also as soon as you turn it off its back to being mega hot again. The sound is loud but not to the point where its annoying or noticible and tv can still be heard more than fine. I wouldn't purchase again i would much prefer a wall unit or if i had to again get a portable unit it would be something different. In my opinion and my partners it just doesnt cut it on those 40 degree days.

Very unhappy – I bought this unit about 2 years ago. It is pretty easy to install just a pipe and a window kit. Turned it on in a 16 sq m room and waited for the results. disappointed but i thought that most of the portable ones would work the same.

I tried it the same night and it did drop the temp a bit easier (given it was cooler) but the noise was unbelievable. That's what got me. They advertise it as "Silent". Literally the biggest joke ever. You must be genuinely deaf to call that silent. I felt like i was fooled by a marketing person cause that was the only reason I choose that brand.

After a few days of operation the motor started to rattle adding an extra layer of discomfort on top of the horrible sound. At that time i decided to keep it a bit more since i had 5 years warranty.

Coming next summer i got it out of storage and installed it again. I was not ready for such a bad surprise. The efficiency dropped like never before. I would run it for hours and hours and the difference would be only 2 to 3 degrees from what was outside. Chewing up energy for no reason.

Reading other peoples reviews it looks like the company made a bad batch that had some serious issues.

Anyway, I returned it to the good guys and they were happy to give me store credit. I choose an other brand.

Overall it looks like they have some serious issues with that model for sure especially when you pay $800.

Does the job but a bit noisy and leaks on floor if you're unprepared/unaware! – Bought this second hand (during winter, because it's always cheaper then!) and was quite happy with it - it's quite a good solution for a small room where you cannot install a wall unit A/C. as some other users (and one of my friends who recommended it to me) have found it to be ... that's in some way acceptable because to be fair to Olimpia, the design of this unit necessarily has its compressor unit in the main unit as well (as opposed to a wall split unit where the compressor unit is outside the room/home). If you have a baby that is easily awaken by noise, the cutting in and out of the compressor during operation may be too loud - our baby thankfully does not get stirred once she's well asleep and we get to leave the unit operating all night during a hot week.

My biggest bugbear with this unit, surrounds the condensate outlet in the rear of the unit, which is unplugged and which actually LEAKED condensate onto the floor (ours is a wooden floor!) - the already poorly written manual only mentions the condensate needing to be emptied during transportation - there is no mention of what to do with the open condensate outlet - I made the mistake of presuming the condensate automatically empties out to the exhaust outlet. To my horror, one morning, after many long nights of using the A/C unit during a hot week, I found a puddle of water on the ground, and found my floorboards had buckled from the water stagnating and infiltrating it.

I've since had to build a hose system (using clear hoses from Bunnings) to manually drain the condensate after each use of the A/C. Ultimately it was my mistake of assuming the condensate automatically emptied out to the exhaust, but I'm really annoyed such a stupid design for the condensate drain plug is not explained by the manufacturers.

Someone with better grasp of not just English but English in usage context, really needs to help our Italian friends put together a more user friendly and informative manual. Apart from that, if you can take care of this condensate issue, it's a decent unit that definitely cools the room down very well.

Good choice for a rental property – This is my third Summer with the Piu 14, which I purchased from Good Guys. of cooling, and I tried a few electrical stores finding they had completely run out of stock. The Good Guys had only one portable A/C left and it was the Piu 14, and it cost a bomb. I couldn't haggle the price down. The unit looked neat and sleek while it was in the store. Of course, it did not have the extractor hose attached, and only had the fan running, which was blowing the already air conditioned air inside the Good Guys store. The unit fitted into my small car neatly and when I arrived home I couldn't unpack it fast enough.

I was surprised at the diameter of the hose. It looked huge, and was, yet the length of the hose was relatively short. I needed a longer hose to vent out the hot air through an existing doggy door, so I made do with a length of plastic water drainage pipe. The first thing I noticed was that while the unit ran silently when only the fan was running, once the compressor kicked in, the noise was substantial. As well, the extractor hose became really hot and caused heat soak into the room. I used towels to wrap around the hose and this reduced the heat considerably, even though it looked ugly. I wished the unit had an adjustable directional air deflector, for I found the fixed air deflection less than ideal. I eventually attached an air deflector from an old box fan using blu-tack. It was easily removed when not required and left no marks or made any permanent change to the unit. The Piu is also a heavy unit and is not so easy to move around,especially with its small castor wheels. As well, the water reservoir fills quickly and needs to be emptied even after a short period, and the dust filter seems to require regular rinsing under a tap. In the first year I used the unit towards the end of the heat wave so it only ran on a few occasions. I noticed the hit to my power bills. The Piu 14 does not run cheaply.

In the subsequent Summers I attached a second expandable hose which I purchased as a spare part, which was a neater look than the water pipe. The extraction hose still needs insulating and I continue to wrap the hoses to attain this. Unless the unit is place right next to a wall or window and vented out that way, there is no choice but to have a length of extractor hose in the room yo wish to cool down. The unit does struggle when the temperature reaches the high thirties, but during the night it does cool a bedroom well. Having an adjustable deflector, even if it is an attachment helps markedly. For the number of days the unit is actually used, I expect it to last a long time, regardless of the warranty.

My rating is four stars. The Piu 14 does its job, with a little help, and considering the variety of locations it is required to operate in, it is a reasonable compromise between form and function. During the night it is a great help, and in the dark one can't see the ugliness of the attached extractor hoses.

copes really well- very comfortable despite being well over 30 outside and the unit runs six metres away from my bed but is very quiet so no sleep disruption. Another friend rang me three weeks ago to tell me they were going air con shopping and I told them to go for this model - but found out later they bought something else. He dropped by my place yesterday and asked to see/hear mine running up close - came downstairs and said to me I've really done the wrong thing- wish I had listened to you! Mine is not a patch on this one - it's noisy and no where near as effective. So quiet and works really well.
