HEARTACHE AND OPPO MISERY – Firstly...Had my oppo ax7 for over 4 years since new and it barely missed a beat. Dropped it using it as a torch half wasted one night recently and the screen broke. Didnt have a screen protector for last year or so and had been careful up until then and regret it now. despite the oppo ax7 screen now looling like spiders have crapped webs all over… Read more
it, it all still functions and if i added a pic of the screen you would say WT hel, that still works?? lol. Bought a A53s a month ago, new, sealed in box. After a week it started to come away at the top of the screen as if they forgot to put glue round the damn thing. Figured ok ill buy some glue, put a small piece of clear tape at the top to hold the digitizer/screen down at the top till the chinese glue shows up to fix the chinese dysfunctional fire hazzard phone! Then a week later noticed the garbage is getting hot. i didnt try fry an egg on the screen at this point but it may well of made a great youtube video trying to cook one and wreckon it may of came close. At this point im thinking the battery is fried or about to explode. Being the rebel i am i continued to use it for another week. Takes about 5 hours to fully recharge, battery lasts a full day therebouts. Today i needed to make a call (no not to abuse oppo or ring my mum and abuse her..) went to shop to put credit on phone that ran out 3 days ago when was able to make and recieve calls fine last. Then tried to call and it just "hung" on "calling" screen, made no sound such as the sound it makes when you call people, tried calling family members etc in same room, nothing! Put sim in old busted butt ax7 and it makes calls hahahhaha. Format oppo a53s 4 times now, TOTAL ERASE. I can connect to home wifi on it, just cant make calls. checked call barring. not set as on! been thru all settings i know to use and the verdict is its a ABSOLUTE WASTE OF SPACE! Afraid to throw it in the bin as it will most certainly catch a garbage truck on fire!
Unbelievable – Bought the A53 handset as temporary measure... After dropping it a few times, thought omg it's broken, nope..latest accident was dropping it in my spa ? Thought yep need a new phone now!, Nope it's still going (little bit of clouding on the screen).. I will be buying another Oppo Show details
Oppo a53s customer service – Unfortunately can't give minus stars for both the phone and the customer service (very loose term). Phone constantly dropped out on speaker . Been sent back to Oppo three times for a total of seven weeks. Oppo can't find fault even though one of their reps was on a call with me when fault occurred 3 times. Oppo have given me the option of sending… Read more
the phone back without repair, sending me a second hand refurbished phone which if I do that I lose all data. They won't even transfer my contacts to another phone.Customer service rep is very off hand and doesn't give a toss about service even telling me I have a deadline of 4pm Sydney time to make up my mind (this at midday Qld time) otherwise they will send unrepaired phone back. Wanted me to send a video of the problem but it was rejected by their server as file too large. Would NOT recommend Oppo or their customer service.
Best phone I've ever owned – My old iPhone finally died. I decided to change to an Android replacement primarily because I wanted the option to increase my storage capacity via a micro SD card. This phone leaves my old one for dead. It's fast, very responsive, incredibly easy to set up and use. Photos are very clear and has some very useful default apps. Highly recommended Show details
Awful phone with limited support – Worst are the ads on my apps. Volume off and dnd on, but ads will play incredibly loud. Some texts are not received or sent (even though phone says sent). Show details
DO NOT waste your money on this phone! Partner & I both have this phone, both do the same & have done since day one – Regardless of software upgrades phone is riddled with glitches, freezes, majority of the time I can't use loud speaker during calls. Sometimes it works other times it won't. Regardless of touch sensitivity settings of the buttons....calls are accidentally muted while phone is held to ear. Another very annoying call screen feature is the "call… Read more
record" button on the call screen. Almost every call the button is accidentally pressed with your cheek and an announcement of "this call is now being recorded" bellows out to alert both parties the call is being recorded.
As I said all of these issues are REGARDLESS OF SETTINGS. The processing speed = 0. if at all! When a web page loads it loads so slow that you when you assume it's all loaded and it appears all loaded you go to press on a part of the screen and in that split second before you touch....the screen changes to load more images or text and you've touched the wrong thing and have to go back.
Another very annoying and inconvenient fault of these phones is that it has a consistent charging problem. It turns off & won't charge or turn on for a number of HOURS at a time. We have to just leave the phone sitting on charge and hope for the best twiddling our thumbs......until it decides to turn back on by itself. The battery life itself isn't too bad..actually that could be the only functional part of the whole phone.
Bad quality pictures, blurry/auto focus issues.
Worst phone both my partner and I have ever been unfortunate enough to buy.
In too hard basket after 1 day – This is a very hard phone to use. Day 1 I had it set up by a phone kiosk and returned same day because I couldn't get the internet on it. It was set up again but I still cant get the internet. day 2 I still cant get the internet. It is heavy clunky and difficult to use . I have used most of my pre paid data in 1 day and I cant go into… Read more
telstra app and feed it more money because i cant get the internet up to do it?????
I have wi fi with a different provider at home but I cant connect the phone to that either. Very disappointed and will be replacing battery in my old phone and will go back to using it in preference to this one.
Arguably the dumbest Smart phone I have ever owned – Having destroyed my previous Oppo , I replaced it without much research with a 53S. It is clearly an "upgrade" of the previous model but can't match it in any way.It is vastly inferior. Usage is counter intuitive and clumsy . Efforts to make the phone more "modern" have rendered it exceedingly difficult to use. Show details
Reasonable replacement for AX5 – I have an OPPO AX5S ... which has proven over the past couple of years to be one very sturdy beast. So when young son was ready to transition away from those gawd awful handsets you get as prepaid beginners packs from supermarket, I knew that was gonna be the goto. Alas ... model discontinued. After a check of available reviews decided on A53S. … Read more
Presents as a sleek and user friendly phone. It kind of feels light and just a little frail in the hand , but that has yet to translate into anything deficient. Dimension wise, a little longer than my AX5, but definitely a lot cooler to look at. Loses a star only because it seems to be missing Oppo's characteristic tough screen protector. Or if it's there, it's unnoticeable. As a result, the screen scratches really easily.
Maybe a manufacturing issue. Maybe it simply missed out. It's not that big a deal, we live rurally, and things getting bumped and scratched are just a fact of life hereaboots.
Otherwise, perfect reception/battery/user interface/camera. No adverse issues to report. Continues Oppo's fine tradition in these respects. So far.
Slow and frustrating – Bought this as my old phone died. I didn't do much research before I bought it and now I wish I had. It's very slow to react to what you want. Even turning it sideways, the screen is slow to rotate. The camera takes a while to get going too. If you need to snap a photo of a moment quickly, forget it, it takes about 4 seconds to open and focus,… Read more
which means you miss whatever you needed a photo of.
Like most phones on the market, its narrow, which makes texting annoying as your finger keeps hitting the letter next to the one you wanted, which drives me mental correcting everything all the time!
On the plus side the screen is very good, crisp and clear. And its cheap to buy. And the battery can last two days without needing charging, which is great.
But I really wish I'd bought something better....
Could be a good low priced phone BUT it's not! – Purchased the phone a week ago and have found it to be just an average phone with potential if support would provide you straight answers, rather than sending you the same information you have already processed on line from their website. The camera is as slow as one could expect. In fact if your 9 month old crawled towards you from say 5 metres… Read more
away, by the time the camera shutter took the photo, the youngster would be already at your feet. There is supposed to be an application called Smart Driving. You contact support several times and receive the same pages you've already checked and finally they say, "Oh by the way you can download the app if you want". The support pages online are useless and give you know help as they aim at settings you don;t have on the phone. At the moment it'll be donated to a charity shop and an alternate phone purchased as support seem not to understand what really is happening.
Great at being everything but a phone – I have owned the Oppo A53s for 5 months to date. This phone had the potential to be an excellent budget phone, but so far I have had so many random issues with software and/or hardware, with almost all issues affecting the usability of the device as an actual phone. The first issue arrived on the 2nd day of ownership. This was the inability for… Read more
incoming callers to hear me talk even after I pick up. This was remedied by restarting the phone but the issue would intermittently come back until the next software update, which is acceptable.
However, the second issue I have had is the microphone just straight out having incredibly low volume levels. This means that anyone I am calling can barely hear me unless if I turn to loudspeaker mode and actively shout into the microphone hole. This, of course also effects the usability of other functions such as google assistant and other voice based functions.
To date, this issue has not been resolved via software updates or restarts.
The camera is also sub-par when compared to comparable devices.
