iPhone Copy - Not in spirit of Android – Oppo has been coined an iPhone copycat.. Here's why and my experience. I upgraded to an OPPO after many years a Samsung user I thought Samsung has got to comfortable with it's market position and drove value for money out the window. So I decided I would try and OPPO and settled on a second hand A57 from ebay. Unboxing the OPPO I was… Read more

immediately impressed and soon had it powered on and downloading all my apps from the play store and transferring SMS's over, a couple of hours past and I thought this was definitely a real good buy.

Until..

Although I had installed Android Messages on the phone and set it as the default, the phone kept changing the default back to the built in sms app. As well as that it was doing the same to my launcher app Evie default back to the default OPPO launcher.

An hour or two later searching forums I found OPPO do not allow users to use any other launcher or sms app other than the built in version.

I run a small business and my phone is never out of my hand not being able to use a launcher that is quick and intuitive is a killer.

I communicate with my customers throughout the day via sms many times via android messages website on my desktop computer which links to Android messages on my phone but it must be the default app.

Another thing I found annoying was it automatically altered photos of faces sometimes trying to "enhance them" I had a few photos where my face looked like I'd had several litres of botox injected my face. Other photos it took were really good, left my Samsung S5 quality for dead.

I buy androids because I enjoy some amount of customization. The OPPO lives up to it's reputation as being an Apple copycat where by many restrictions eg "simple to use", "get what your given".

If your looking for a simple phone and happy and don't want customization then this is a good phone. If like/need to customize don't buy this phone.

I put the phone back on ebay the same day I received it and sold it. I now have a HUAWEI Mate 9 which was a blessing in disguise because I really went down to researching after the OPPO curve ball and now for an extra $50 I have a phone with massive hardware specs. The only limitations on the new phone is not being able to customize notifications sounds from one app to the other (so sms notification sounds the same as email notification).

Phone Was Perfect Until It Broke – Before six months was even up. I got it around November 2017 from Betta Home Living. Since it's not from a Telstra store, I didn't buy the added warranty Betta has available (that I didn't even know about UNTIL afterwards). I got it online but Betta gave me no details to contact the manufacturer about fixing it or about the 12 month standard… Read more

warranty the product has. Really wish I could get onto someone about it as the phone's features are pretty amazing. Great storage space(higher than 8 gb, either 16 or 32), bigger screen size and faster than previous $200 range phones. It's mic and speakers are better too. All in all it does what it's there to do; a mid range phone at a cheaper price.

EDIT: I emailed Betta and the response was less than satisfactory. They said the phone would NOT be covered under warranty because it "fell." Despite the fact that it was more a slip and that the surface was dry and BARELY five inches tall. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM BETTA THEY ARE UNHELPFUL.

Great budget smart phone for simple users – I purchased this phone for my mum as she needed a replacement for her old Nokia Lumia. She has found it very simple to use and loves the camera. The phone has a very good processor and RAM for its price and she hasn't had any complaints in the last 8 months. The phone runs smoothly and also takes great pictures. This phone is very good for someone… Read more

who doesn't use apps that require a lot of storage or processing power. I believe this is an ideal phone for many parents who want to enjoy the daily features of a good smart phone such as camera, web browsing, various IM apps. The phone has a large display and is very sleek. Although it may copy the design of an iPhone, it looks very nice and comes with a screen protector and a clear protective case which is nice. The earphones however are very basic (a very old design which is probably 10-15 years old). Battery life for this phone is great as it can last up to 2 days on 1 full charge if not used excessively.

Great phone. Great price – So easy to use. Previous phone a Samsung and Oppo was easy to set up. I am on small data plan and I can set warnings on data use for daily use as well as monitoring monthly use. Camera could be better for night photos but very good day shots. Had phone for over 18 months now. No problems. Has survived the occasional drop-no cracked screens. Battery still lasts for about 48 hours depending on use Show details

Good phone – Good phone, camera is pretty good, phone was easy to get used too. Apps sometimes won't work the day you download them, but open the next day, i use my phone for calls, surfing the net and buying stuff online Show details

Great phone – This is fantastic value for money. I've had more expensive brands before and I wouldn't bother going back to them. The Opposite is reliable, takes great quality photos and does everything the other androids do. I've used iphones before also and just can't see the value in their expensive price tags. Show details

Have one, hate it, you have to go thru too many screens – Have to choose an extra app to do just about anything, deleting screens before moving to next, going back, to move forward, instead of just jumping app to app. For Mr, not user friendly

Functional and Cheap – Purchased an Oppo A57 earlier this year for $250 as a replacement for a broken iPhone. The battery life, processing, and storage are all good for the price range. The camera quality is passable in good lighting but poor in shadows or in dimly lit settings. Only major issue is poor reception; phone calls commonly dropout within 10 seconds of… Read more

receiving a call. The music application has little functionality, not even providing shuffle or random song selection. Otherwise the phone is a good choice considering the price.

Not sure how it is discontinued, Bought one 4 days ago. Awesome Phone – Available Still at Big W, K - Mart and Woolworths as a Prepaid Optus Phone, so if your contracted Optus phone is damaged beyond use this is a fantastic Phone available between $199 and $249 depending on outlet. I actually ditched a Samsung S22 in favour of this that was 8 months old and I can already say my life has become easier. Not needing to… Read more

look for a constant charging source like I did the S22, the Oppo A57 goes Days off charge and that is with BT, Hotspot and Wi-Fi active. The Fast Charge really is the fast charge 3.1A/33watts, Gorilla glass, water resistant with easy to navigate menu's as opposed to Samsung. And it has a headphone jack and it came with a wall charger - Unlike the POS S22 I paid nearly 4x more for. Great Phone and a Nice Leather Wallet with card holders and clear photo pouch cost me $274. I am Very Very Happy

Very Happy overall – Overall have found this phone great for the price paid. Been using for close to 3 years now still kicking along nicely. Whenever I download a new app seems I have to restart the phobe before the app will work. A minor inconvenience. Aside from that have found it easy to use and very sufficient for my purposes.

Like An Apple But Not – This phone is very much designed to clone the iphone style. It looks like an iphone on first glance but that's where it ends. The color OS on this tries hard but falls short with it's complex usability. After having this phone for about 6 months I'm just finding settings that are hidden away in a labyrinth. The cameras are another story. They work great and the quality is superb. Overall a great well built phone for about $250.  Show details

Worth the Money! – I really enjoy using my OppoA57 phone. It is very quick and easy to handle. The battery on the phone lasts me for days (which is really good since I use social media and watch a fair bit of Netflix on my film!!) I have had no problems with it since I brought it brand new in 2017. The only problem I personally have with it is that the back camera… Read more

Best Value for money – I am extremely satisfied with this phones functionality. The cameras quality both front and back are crystal clear in virtually all light conditions. Easy to use & great value – I purchased this phone for staff at work & I have set-up other android/iPhones & must say that this is the best android phone to set-up, it's in between iPhone & android. This is a perfect phone for my staff & it looks good to, the apps that are not needed are easy to delete or disable. The phone is mainly used for calls, SMS & emails.  Show details

This phone was ok but no memory – The phone was ok had a good display and operated smoothly. The camera was basic and gave poor photo quality. The phone ran into most of its problems because it ran out of memory fast and then it lagged a whole lot. Would recommend it for people not wanting to use it for photo storing or running large applications.  Show details

Value for money – Easy phone to operate, I don't need all the glitz and glamour of things from an Apple or iphone. I just need the simple functions, took this phone with me to Europe and got really great photos. Decent megapizel for the amount I brought it for and very greatful for the cheap price I brought it for. The flash could be brighter but found it not to be an issue.  Show details

I have always had a iphone. and was always a Mac man.. but recent revelations re Apple, and the fact my iphone 6 didnt last a day..made me turn top the dark (android) side. I havent looked back.. this phone lasts well over a day..a nd is better than the iphone 6. Only beef is it occasionally drops location..so i reset the phone.  Show details

Picture quality not as I xpected for the size of the camera – Even tho the A57 camera is larger than cameras on phones I've had before, it seems the picture QUALITY doesn't marry up to the 12GB camera. It's weird, I don't get WHY that's the case but that's what I've found. Also, it has a large battery(2800 I think) but I have to keep recharging it every day if I use the internet for more than an hour - that's a real pain  Show details

Best value for money phone I've ever brought – This phone has EVERYTHING!. At first I admit I was hesitant in buying a brand I wasn't familiar with. But after discovering the phone has a better camera and better, if not the same just about everything that the leading competition brand's have. And at a much more reasonable price, I decided to give it a go. So glad that I did because I love this phone so much. Worth every cent I paid for it. 10/10.  Show details

releases sometimes more behind in their version of android. OPPO modify android for their phones. However updates and fixes are either not released or delayed for a long period of time.

The effect is any software faults are not fixed. One example custom ring tones.

But the latest fault on my a57 phone is no call volume due to a software bug. I cannot hear callers So I have a phone which cannot be used for calls.

I have tried maximum volume and resetting the phone neither of which have worked

Outstanding mobile phone – I have always been a Samsung phone user. Bit there pricing was getting a bit to out of my range. So on advice from a friend I purchased my first Oppo. I absolutely love it. It's somewhere between an iPhone and android. Best of both worlds. I would highly recommend an oppo phone to anyone.  Show details

Really good quality build, fast easy to use function, and the price – I have always been pretty impressed with oppo, even at a higher price point you get a good phone but these are sold quite cheap but the price doesn't reflect the quality they are very well made and run really well, good design (although looks more like apple than I would like) and even comes with a screen protector already installed and a case,… Read more

Looks like iPhone, works like android – Best phones made for a great price. Paid about $350. The only thing that disappointed me, is it doesn't have the chip to tap and go/paypass like Samsung did.
