Love it – I love this phone I'm using it right now to right this review. I would gladly use Oppo from now on I just love how it's mixed of apple and Android.

Best, strongest and most stable phone I've had. 3 years later and still going strong with no screen protector – Very happy with it's excellent camera. Very durable phone with unbelievable brightness. Has been used for work and business. Perfectly running apps. Definitely well worth the money for this phone, it won't let you down. Show details

Poor Oppo quality – I have had the Oppo R17 Pro for 2 years and have looked after it, provided a protective case from day 1. After 1.5 years I noticed the touch screen developing sensitivity problems and had to tap screen buttons several times, it has become worse. I charge my phone every night sitting it on a table, now 7/5/21 I have noticed the charging plug is… Read more

worn and not making good contact thus charging is failing. I consider the quality of build to be poor and now wish the Samsung phone it replaced had been replaced by another Samsung (it latest 6 years until I dropped it on concrete and was working flawlessly until then). Another gripe is the battery cannot be removed and replaced. I would not recommend this manufacturer.

Constant issues – Flickering half screen is constant. Despite resetting, and all the other "fixes", and now the flickering screen is black. I reset, it comes good for a minute, then back to flickering. I uninstall software. Still flickers. Updates keep causing new problems. Huge time waster. Totally regret this deal. Show details

Very happy with purchase, would buy again! – - Battery Life is great, I get more than a day out of a charge and if I forget to charge overnight it only looses a few percent while in standby - ColorOS updates often bringing new features. Android 10 update arrived fairly early too. - Heaps of RAM so performance rarely dips, I don't play games but will load up many apps and browser Windows. -… Read more

Camera takes good shots - Gorilla Glass means the screen doesnt scratch, no stupid screen protector required! - Still has a 3.5mm socket for headphones if required :)

Best phone I have ever owned – Love this phone. Never misses a beat. It takes very good photos, is fast and relatively robust. The speaker is good enough for my use and is better with headphones My next phone will definitely be an OPPO Show details

Don't buy if you like freedom – Don't bother buying this if you want to root/jailbreak it. It's racist and won't let you unlock the bootloader unless it's the Chinese version and the support (if you can call them that) are no help. Show details

Love it – I love my phone. The camera is great as well as fast speeds in games and the internet I don't think I would change my phone anytime soon. I've had my phone for a while now and it's still in perfect condition

Terrible hardware support. Only good if you live in chi – If you cant supply international markets with enough parts don't waste people's time & life with your fragile poor quality hardware!!! I had an oppo r17 and only for a simple smashed screen I had to wait for weeks with a lot of of inconvenience and disastrous ends...... Don't recommend any of oppo products at all. Na! Show details

Simple and smooth to operate – I have alternated between Oppo and another well known android phone in the last few years. I was gifted the Oppo R17 recently. I love the sleek purple design and the big clear screen. Takes great high quality clear pics, battery life is very good and the fact it's not full of pre installed bloatware is a bonus. 1 problem that im yet to google a… Read more

remedy for is that some of my apps "Calendar and dosecast" that i rely on for important notifications get shut down either when the battery gets under 20% or a restart of the phone. In an earlier version i did find out how to add it to a safe list. I do have slight problems holding the power button in until it finally shuts down. All in all I'm very happy with my Oppo.

Great Phone, Great price – Ive had the phone for 4 months and highly recommend it. If you can operate an android phone you will have no problems with this. It does everything that an iPhone or Samsung does at half the price. Takes great photos, comes with case cover and screen protector. And you can sync your iPod headphones to it also. I have also dropped it without damaging it. Show details

Like the phone, need problems sorted – The jack for the headphones doesn't fit, it is clearly loose and so headphones don't function. Anyone else have this problem? Also when contacting the website to deal with this, I was unable to proceed as the page with policy had no button to accept? Show details

Amazing Phone For Price!! – Bought this OPPO R17 for my 11 year old daughter. Didn't want to spend a bomb buying an older model iPhone due to the lack of storage and price. Far too expensive for a child. So upon good advice I purchased the OPPO R17 for $499 from Officeworks. What a fantastic phone! We are an Apple family, but my daughter was able to negotiate the OPPO very… Read more

Beautiful looking phone. Camera has multiple options for photo enhancement. Video feature brings room to brightness without bright light blinding people. Finger print unlocking and Face Recognition is seamless. It has 128GB of storage. Usually you would be paying in the thousands for an iPhone with these features.

I will certainly be purchasing an OPPO for myself also. Very impressed.

A Backward Step – I want to have the basic functionality of being able to set different notification tones for different apps, this is available on older Oppos and other brands. But not on the Oppo R17 Pro! All alerts are the same How crazy is it not having this basic functionality, their feedback from users is going ballistic about this and so am I. It is a show stopper, what a waste of money! Show details

Impressive phone that does most of what the top-end icons do....sometimes even better – I bought a new Oppo R17 for my wife who decided she wanted to get a better phone than her 5-year old Samsung Note which wasn't up to the tasks anymore. Looking at top-end new Samsung's - and the prices for them....I decided they just are not worth it. Then had to come up with an alternative.....The short list was the Oppo R17, or the Motorola G7… Read more

Plus....which isn't quite here in Australia yet....Anyway, went for the Oppo ($599 from Retravision - might have saved a few dollars using ebay, but needed it quickly for travel) and she's very pleased with it....and I have played with it enough to say I am very impressed as well. I will be the next Samsung refugee.

The phone looks great - and the screen is amazing. Very small notch for the spectacular selfie/video camera....It is a gem using facebook messenger. The interface and some software is a bit different from Samsung, so some learning curve involved....in a couple days we were using it like pros - so it doesn't require rocket scientists to operate.....It is very very quick for our purposes and runs smooth as silk so far - no freezes, no stutters, no problems at all....The battery life is amazing - as is the recharge rate.....30% to 100% in under an hour.....I give this one, 5-stars easy.....

19 June - update.....Just to confirm this is 5 star phone....It is still working brilliantly...The photos are all album quality....We are very happy with it.....My old Samsung is looking to the trash-can...Half the screen resolution......a fraction of the speed......I am over it and wanting this Oppo.......very very soon.......

Quality at half the price – Recently purchased this phone to replace another well-known brand at about half the cost. Great features include: 128GB Storage; 25MP Front Sensor camera; Hidden Fingerprint Unlock, Unlock instantly from your display; plus many more features. Highly recommended for people wanting quality at a budget price.

Not a bad smart phone for under $1000 – Better than my old Samsung s8. I'm a big fan of their security in screen fingerprint reader and facial reader very responsive and quick. Comes with phone covers and the battery life definitely alot better than Samsung or apple, I'm heavy user on my days off and I can manage a day and half without charge, from 5% battery only takes 90 to fully charge  Show details

A few very disappointing features on an otherwise excellent piece of hardware – I bought the Oppo R17 after seeing rave reviews on the R17 Pro, and deducing that the R17 was a slightly lower powered version with a few minor features missing. I was right, but disagree with many of the reviews online. Let me start with the positives, which are almost all about the hardware - it's absolutely gorgeous: - The somewhat… Read more

ordinary-shaped body is almost lost behind a few "ooh" features, such as the teardrop notch (the best of the notches by far)

- The grippy and mesmerising glass back that shimmers different colours as you turn it

- First-of-its-kind fingerprint scanner *under* the AMOLED panel (which panel, by the way, while not top of its class is still bright and vibrant)

- Best-in-class fast charging (almost a full charge in 30 mins!)

- Great battery life

- Cameras (front and back) are phenomenal for this price point. Again, among the best of the mid-range phones.

- As with other Oppos and their OnePlus cousins, this comes with a factory-installed screen protector and TPU case as standard. Nice touch.

- Some well-thought out features, like an optional "SOS mode", where if you hit the power button 5 times quickly it will (after a few seconds grace to cancel) send out an SMS to an emergency contact including your last known location, images from both cameras and a short video. It will also optionally call emergency services. Great for those late night walks across dodgy areas of town (?!)

There are many more things I could rave on about, but unfortunately a few things let it down:

- First and foremost, while the Pro model has NFC (for Tap'n'Go / PayPass / Google Pay), the non-Pro model DOES NOT. This was one of the biggest disappointments, as a heavy user. I assumed that buying a $700 phone I wouldn't have to check if it had NFC. This astounds me - it would cost *cents* to include this feature and every other phone I've seen in this price band include it.

- The ColorOS skin is probably ok if you're coming from an iPhone. It's probably an improvement, in fact. But for a long-time stock Android user (and recent OnePlus convert), ColorOS was pretty limiting. There's no app drawer, you just get all the icons on your home screen, settings are weirdly organised, etc.

- Notifications are weird, they appear on the lock screen when you first get them but then disappear shortly thereafter - could be a bug, could be by design to keep the lock screen clean? No amount of setting tweaking seemed to help - and I read many blogs about keeping apps running on Oppo phones

- As I've alluded to, Oppo manages its great battery life by killing apps unceremoniously unless you go out of your way to keep them from being killed. This can have unintended consequences such as delayed notifications.

- Notification icons are not shown at the top of the screen. Instead you get only status icons, and you have to pull down the notification shade to see if, for example, you have a new email or text message that you didn't notice coming in. This seems to be a theme with a lot of notched phones, which is strange because there's still plenty of room there for notification icons (especially if you remove all the useless ones!)

Overall, I'd recommend this phone for someone moving from iPhone to Android who wasn't concerned about using NFC for payments. Otherwise I'd either recommend the OnePlus 6 for around the same price or plonk another $200 down and get the OnePlus 6T. Both excellent phones.
