FRUSTRATING – I agree with the other reviews posted. couldn't decide which good phone I wanted after the 3G network stopped so bought it out of frustration to tie me over. So difficult to use. Stays in previously used pages, have to use the AI and say "homepage". then cannot go to Settings. Or AI says "tap on Settings"". HM-nothing happens! Yes, constant… Read more

advertising with Google. Apps don't work. asks for credit card straightaway eg just Alarm Clock. Tap on the app after installing-just get ads to install junk. Getting a one time pin-when on a call-nightmare, appears for 1 sec. Had a Nokia Windows phone for over 10 yrs! This is I hope NOT a true Android experience. Only has back arrow for a few pages like Notif for anything after using it once.ications. Can't go back to Settings VERY FRUSTRATING .uses battery fast. Haven't tried the camera. '

X Smart might be discontinued but continues now with Optus X Sight 2 which is equally as bad – The Optus X Sight 2 from Kmart has to be the worst phone I've ever had. There's so many things this phone can't do or won't do. It also has no capabilities for OTG and won't tell you this, there isn't anything anywhere about OTG and these phones except telling you to download drivers which don't work aswell as download OTG allowing Apps which… Read more

don't work either. It is basically Google possessed and continuously reverts to everything google and won't hold your privacy settings to keep private. It's basically just a information collector for the Watchers. Do not buy one.

Only if you're desperate – The camera is what you would expect from a 8mp piece of crap rebranded phone. The display might be large but its tacky and unresponsive. If you want to use multiple apps you will need to use 3rd party software to clear ram. The phone also overheats easily. Show details

Good basic phone – We got this for our son who broke his other phone so we didn't want to spend heaps. His main uses are messaging, youtube and spotify all of which work well. There were some network teething issues and the contacts/ or rather the way the contacts are displayed in the messages is weird. Some contacts that are in the phone come up in an "unknown"… Read more

group but when you tap on the message the contact name appears. To confuse me further it isn't all contacts. We have tried to fix but frustratingly don't seem to be able to. Im sure there would be a fix though. The screenshot function is strange too. You need to swipe down and hit a "screenshot" icon, rather than using side buttons. I also recommend going and buying a cover instead of online or ebay as the one on ebay we got didn't have an opening for headset or charging. In short, there are a few weird quirks but if you want your kid to be able to text you and listen to some music its fine. UPDATE: Sorry to anyone who has further questions about this phone, my son put it in a bag with wet clothes so beyond what I have written above we didn't get much further with it.

Great value entry level phone – Dad ditched the landline and transferred his Telstra mobile over to this phone. I researched a number of sub$200 phones (the budget set) and this wasn't on the list. All the ones that were seemed to have at least one issue or another that were problematic for Dad. Picked up the X Smart on special, tested it, and thought, "This is only a cheap… Read more

phone but screen size is virtually the same as my iPhone 6s plus." A big plus for older people.

Further, it has a good volume, clear screen and functions smoothly without being overly fast. The battery life was acceptable and it was simple enough for Dad to get the hang of - at least for phone calls. A case and screen protector from eBay for under $7 and the package was complete.

You need to remember that this is a cheap phone - it is not intended as a premium piece of tech. Yes, it could do with some more ram, a bit clearer photo ability and maybe a faster charging battery but it does what is intended. Don't expect a million dollar experience on a hundred dollar phone - you may well be disappointed. However, if you want a cheap phone with 4G capability, a big screen, expandable storage and ease of operation then this phone might well be for you.

Absolutely love this phone recommend to anyone! – Im writing this review because I looked on here before I purchased this phone and after reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant but absolutely love the Optus X Smart. Not sure what's with the bad reviews on this phone! Don't buy a phone that's $99 and expect it to run like a $1000+ iPhone. In saying that I purchased this phone for $99… Read more

from bigw with a $50 eftpost card and I absolutely love it! I don't have problems with it being slow camera is on par with the iPhone 5S, it charges fine (doesn't take Super Long to charge like another user posted) battery stays fairly long depending on how much you use it. I use this phone for daily use and have the few apps I need - Facebook, Messenger, Banking etc and I am really happy with the phone it doesn't glitch or stop working unless the app needs to be updated. Don't have any complaints and for the price with the current $50 Eftpos card promotion I'm extremely happy and urge anyone whos considering purchasing to give it a go!

A simple phone for mum – Camera quality isn't very good at all. However, the phone itself is very durable to drops etc. The display is very bright and the phone runs smoothly. Also good for apps/games. Very simplistic for those who 'don't do technology'. Show details

Does everything I need without hassle – The camera is excellent & do most photo taking on this even though I have a perfectly good digital camera. I am not chained to my phone. I like the fact that it records my steps for the day because I have been a fat lazy for too long. Oh, & calls are nice & clear.  Show details

Optus X Start - A piece of crap!!! – I urgently needed a replacement phone and I was offered this heap of crap from the the phone repair store and I asked for the cheapest that does something similar to Samsung and he gives me the this Optus X Start which is discontinued and wouldn't update anymore.....I am yet to take the phone today and shove it down their throats and tell them a)… Read more

rip offs b) fraud c) lying and d) piece of sh*ts because they took advantage of the "urgent" situation and charged a lot more than what the phone is worth. It's slow, doesn't update, loses reception completely when you try updating after 8.1.0, screen flickers, keypad is crap, screen is worthless and I asked for "new" and this b.s phone ended up refurbished because it had previous persons phone contacts in their. I'm visiting them today, they will definitely know my anger towards them. My advice, do your research even if it's urgent otherwise you'll regret it.

Dont waste your time or money – Bought for my partner in Jan 2020. Screen went sprong 7 weeks later but was working well before that. Got it replaced (Coles were great) but new one would not receive bluetooth files or wifi direct (phones were paired but on XStart it says bluetooth on but not connected) Took it to Optus but they couldn't figure it out so thought l just got a dud.… Read more

Device #3 proved to have the exact same issue and l have tried several troubleshooting methods to no avail. Did not have this problem with the original one....if only the screen hadn't stopped working (had not been dropped) grrrrrr!

Save your money – Was really disappointed. Phone call quality very poor. I had very little apps on the phone and sadly they took forever to load. I paid $59 for this phone and wish i saved that for something else. I have bought cheaper phones in the past and could not fault them. Sadly this Optus phone was better to not even being made. Show details

absolute crap – Waste of money. Have only had this phone for 2 months purchased at Kmart. Yes it's cheap but god so slow. Wont load basic apps, messages are so tedious to type I usually give up. The phone is completely unresponsive now and I have not damaged it in any way. My suggestion is don't bother buying, you'll just have to purchase a new phone in a couple of months anyway. In the bin it goes. Show details

Good 1st phone or temp replacement – Does everything basic that 2018 asks for. Camera is clear. Has some lag issues opening apps. Typing can be frustrating. Good battery life. Looks clean and is quite sturdy in construction. Setup is easy. Wi fi works well. Great 1st phone or a temporary replacement for a high end phone.  Show details

Good Value Smartphone – The phone operates pretty well with two apps in the background, anymore it is too slow. best results I use a manual setting to under exposure the photos. I have a top of the line 20 MP compact camera anyway, I only use the device for business emails, FB, text and calls, no games. It performs this work well, 9 out of 10, overall 7.5 out of 10. I have used my girlfriends Telstra Blade A602 and this phone is much much better. The Blade is like overall 4.5 out of 10.

Can't believe it's not a Samsung – This phone is a perfect mobile for all needs. I did have a Samsung note 5 and bought this as a replacement. I'm a heavy phone user and it has handled everything that I have asked it to do. Fantastic battery life. Fast and reactive. Nice Slimline design. Very very impressed. The price was amazing too.  Show details

it is a slug. do not buy – very slow response, lag time. I use this for Skype only. I recommend getting Samsung or oppo. This optus x smart phone will be placed in recycle bin. wasted my money. The functions and permissions not easy to manage .Screenshot difficult for buttons on same side and causes to fumble. a dud.  Show details

Can get slow, very slow! – This is shaped like a smartphone, looks like a smartphone, unfortunately it only "sorta" works like a smartphone. Calls and texts are no worries and battery life is fine (probably due to the low resolution screen) but it chokes up hard with things like Google maps navigation or anything that overtaxes the processor and RAM. It works but I would only count this a suitable spare phone.  Show details

Good choice – I had bought this for my son as a birthday present. He loves it and doesn't have any complaints. It has everything he wants on there... It is worth the purchase, great value for money & prices are very affordable considering. Another great thing is that it's not as fragile as other expensive phone brands.  Show details

Worst phone ever – Bought this as a cheap temp phone while my proper phone is being fixed. Literally a useless piece of plastic. Yes, it's only $59 but it still should be fit for basic purpose. Well, it makes calls, so it does do the job of a phone. But don't even bother trying to use maps, text or email. It is so slow and unresponsive I am looking forward to… Read more

Average phone – I bought an Optus X and I have found the screen cracked really easily when I went to put the back on the phone. Also, the CPU overheats quite frequently and it loads up apps slowly sometimes. The RAM memory also fills up quickly. This really is an average phone.  Show details

Slow, Bad Volume – It's very slow, the volume is too quiet and you can't turn it up higher than max volume even with good head phones. Junk phone. Screen cracks easily, cheap plastic used. Average phone for average price – Got this phone as a temporary replacement for my broken iPhone. It was good for general use but missing a lot of features missing from the premium phones. It was slow at times and also the camera could have been better. I've since bought myself a Chinese phone for the same price and found they are much better value for money for the price.  Show details

Love it! – This is a Great phone. Easy to use and so much quicker than the previous iPhone. Still trying to figure out easiest way to screenshot but otherwise happy with it. The larger screen is so much easier to use. I would definitely recommend the upgrade. Looks good. I have the silver. Do miss the gold available in earlier models. The black is ok.  Show details

Reasonable second phone – This is a cheap phone made to a definite price point. That being said, I quite like it and and use it whenever I don't want to take my iPhone (footy, country, night out etc). It runs OK but forget about the camera and the screen is big but low quality. You can still browse on it and do Facebook. Games, not so much. It's fairly priced in my opinion. Its alright but I definitely wouldn't want it as my main phone.  Show details

Awesome – It is fast big and has small pixels. It is larger than the iPhone X and has a 3 hour battery life when being used. The two reasons why I did not do 5 stars is because, it runs Android 6 instead of 7. Also it is locked to Optus (obviously) and I do not use Optus. Luckily it has wifi.  Show details
