Oral-B iO Series 9

This is the worst toothbrush in history — DO NOT BUY IT! These Oral-B brushes have a serious issue: after one year, the battery drops to 50% and shuts down by itself. You have to reset it every time. I sent it in under warranty and they replaced it, but six months later, the exact same thing happened again. Check out the video I’ve attached. This is a $500 AUD toothbrush that doesn’t even last a year. An absolute scam!! Show details
Poo quality battery – Battery go’s flat very quickly even after charging for more then one day. The screen shows the battery is fully charged but goes flare half way through cleaning cycle. Expense dud product.
Expensive, Functional but doesn’t last long – This is an expensive toothbrush from the initial purchase price to the replacement heads. On the positive side, it gives a very good clean and when at the dentist, there is less plaque from using this from when I used a manual brush. In the less than impressive side, the actual toothbrush is very large when in the mouth so tend to dribble… Read more
toothpaste down the front. Learned to either bend over the sink further or don’t have a top on. When finished brushing, there is always white residual toothpaste all down the brush handle so have to pull it apart and rinse it and then sit it on the side of the sink to drain off, otherwise the magnetic charger ends up with residual toothpaste pooling all over it and then dripping all over the bench. This is pretty annoying. It is easier to wipe off than other models I’ve had. The toothbrush is easy to knock off the magnetic charging base which is also frustrating. I like the timer function but the multi colours are superfluous and more a marketing gimmick. Can’t be bothered and don’t think there is any need to stray off the daily clean function. Really annoyed the battery stops charging just after the warranty expires (same thing happened with my brothers one which was purchased at a similar time..so go figure) I suspect inbuilt obsolescence which really leaves a bad taste in my mouth for a Au$400 toothbrush that only lasted not even 3 years. Can’t get a replacement battery and replace yourself very easily or have to take it to the State repair centre for a battery replacement. Unsure if that’s even the problem. Do better Oral B!
Oral B toothbrushes are non repairable – Purchased two of these in December 2021 and initially very happy with them. They are definitely quieter and smoother than the initial oral-b electric toothbrushes we purchased. They are also definitely better for dental care than a normal toothbrush. So in that sense I am supportive of them for dental hygiene. Unless they are assiduously cleaned… Read more
though, they do get a build up of grime and dirt. We do clean ours every time we use them and are happy to do so to maintain them/ They are retail from Shaver shop over $700 each but on ‘special’ for $399. I know this as I went back to check on warranty today (Feb 2024) which is ONLY two years. For a product this expensive I wonder if this is valid under the Consumer Protection Act in Australia. My wife’s toothbrush has just stopped working so I examined it and identified that the shaft had broken in the toothbrush. I rang the oral b line and got someone in the Phillipines who advised me to ring a service centre in Brisbane. Other than that the call centre operator was of no help whatsoever. After I described the problem to the service centre, to me a simple case of replacing a part, he said that the toothbrushes were NOT REPAIRABLE. Oral B provides NO PARTS and no help to them. What happens at the repair centre is that if the toothbrush fails within the warranty period, they replace it with a new toothbrush. I am appalled at this obvious -price gouging and deliberate policy of non repair for such an expensive item. I would urge anyone considering purchasing one of these toothbrushes (Remember the heads are worth $20+ each and only last about 6 weeks) to be aware of this. Until Oral B changes their practices and makes them more SUSTAINABLE I would advise anyone not to purchase this item.
Serious mould issues after about 18 months of use – I loved this tootbrush so much. Was super happy with it but it has serious design flaws. I have separated brush from base, rinsed it thoroughly post use, let it dry separately. It turns out mould has been building up in the base part where the brush attaches and it also develops in the brushes itself. Really sad to notice it is getting so hard to… Read more
keep it clear and clean. There are little holes there and same in the brush heads. Sadly may have to throw this out because of this as it is getting worse and worse. Purchased from Shavershop for $349. I even bought one for my husband too, both ready for the bin.
Great cleaning but it has some design flaws – Pros: 1. This is a great electric toothbrush for it's cleaning ability. It looks great and it gives the best clean of any electric toothbrush that I have ever had. 2. There are several settings you can choose from and it has a digital display. 3. Also, it was great to be able to choose another colour instead of white too! Although in Australia… Read more · 1
we can only get black or white and not the lovely pink that is available overseas unless you buy from an overseas seller of course!
4. The charging base is soooo much better than previous models I have had. It's nice and smooth so it can't collect any gunk (which happens no matter how well you rinse you toothbrush) plus the base is magnetised so the toothbrush doesn't slip off.
Cons: It does have a lot of design flaws though:
1. Firstly, there are no other varieties of toothbrush heads that you can get for it unlike other Oral B electric toothbrushes, e.g. if you have sensitive teeth you can't purchase a sensitive brush. The sensitive settings on the toothbrush itself take a while to get used to and are not as gentle as the sensitive brush heads on previous Oral B electric toothbrushes.
2. The reason it cleans so well is that the brush heads spins/vibrates ultra fast this makes ANY toothpaste foam up to such a degree that if you don't pause and spit midway, you end up with foamy saliva and toothpaste running all down the brush handle and to you hand!
3. The display screen is at the front of the toothbrush, BUT when you brush your teeth you hold the front of the brush towards you so you can't see the display in the mirror as you are brushing.
4. The 2 minute vibration pattern which tells you you have finished brushing is not obvious enough and I have merrily kept on brushing for over 3 minutes at times before I have realised!
I don't bother much with the app so I can't comment on that, but the major bug bear I have with this toothbrush is the cost. I paid $379 each last year when they were on special (you can get them for around $350 each now) which I think is a crazy amount of money. The replacement toothbrush heads are also expensive, if you're lucky you can get a 2 pack on special for around $40. I paid it because there is no alternative on the market that cleans anywhere near as good. But I still think it's a ridiculously high price for a toothbrush.
I just hope that future models address some of these issues.
Great Product – I have been using this product for a few weeks now. I like that it give you guidance whilst your brushing ie too hard too soft. It charges really quick. I really feel like my teeth are much cleaner. Show details · 1
