The curious case of the Oricom UHF2190
I have owned SEVERAL of these and find them superbly constructed, solid and with a very nice sounding FM music receiver that can play while it listens on a CB channel for any communications. That said, they could have been even better because the weak inbuilt microphone means you sound "tinny" or muffled to people on the other end, and that alone really wastes the 2 watt output, because your voice will become unclear long before you reach the usual range of 2 watt walkie talkies. But for camping, 4WD spotting and basic family bushwalking the us... Read moreeful range will be fine. Years ago I spoke to Oricom about this and I was amazed they were unaware of the weak microphone issue, because all my 2190's have the same flaw. I guess most buyers haven't directly compared them to equivalent Unidens and GMEs. So the UHF2190 (and presumably UHF2195) is lovely to hold, well-built, and it works for casual use. The manufacturer just should have spent a tiny bit more on that one tiny component on the circuit board - a better microphone.Amazing after sales support
The radios are good. Cheap batteries they come out with are not. This review is based on the amazing support I received from oricom. When the batteries died in a radio that is less than a year old, their support team answered my email quickly and succinctly. Solved the battery problem with one email. Not every day these days that you get amazing after sales support from a company. Most companies ignore you once they have your money. I'll never buy a radio again that's not oricom. Well played mates. Show details · 1Only let down are the batteries
The radios do all that I expected of them, their only let down is the rechargeable batteries, not even a year old, only charged a handful of times and now they are completely dead and cannot be recharged. Show details · 1Great value and does what it says
Good value product, had 1 small issue but their warranty and customer services were brilliant to deal with, email, short phone call.. Resolved.Well done Oricom, I will look at the more powerful units next time. Show details · 1
The other radio won't charge anymore
Bought 1 month ago and now the other radio won't charge cheap rechargeable AAA batteries died. Good thing they are replaceable you don't expect this to happen after 2 uses. Show detailsBetter than the units we had
Purchased fro 4wd Supacentre in April 2018. Used on Aussie wide road trips and always worked with no problem understanding incoming messages. Just prior to next road trip in three weeks noticed batteries were not working, radios were quite ok. Went straight to Oricom and found great customer service with replacements shipped same day. Poor audio quality every time (sending & receiving). Very unclear when receiving, and whilst sending others also can’t make out what is said. I always need to borrow someone else’s spare UHF instead of using my own!. These are useless, do not buy. Show detailsHi there, thanks for the message. Are the 2190 the same as the 2195 ones as I would like to know please just to make sure I get the right ones thanks oricom as I would like to see what the differences is and what comes with both packs Show details · 1Great value units
While gold detecting in the outback bush my wife & I like to keep in contact with each other so we bought the OricomUHF2190s.After the first use there was a problem with the batteries in one unit. Unfortunately at the end of the trip I packed our gear up & forgot all about it until our next trip 12 months later. I rang Oricom & despite being out of warrantee & not being able to find the receipt Matt offered to replace the faulty unit free of charge.
Excellent back up service. The units themselves are brilliant & with added features like the built in LED torch are great value for money. Show details · 1
amazing
these 2 handhelds are awesome for spotting and are a perfect size to carry around. They have great range for spotting from tops of hills or even over hills and i wouldnt use anything else but these Show details · 1Perfect for us. A young family travelling
We use for when reversing the caravan. Kids run around the caravan park with them or leave one with us. Torch comes in handy for nightly walks to the loos Show details · 1A compact user friendly UHF
The Oricom UHF2190 is well priced and efficient for those who want a 2-way product when camping, fishing and walking. Producing a 2 watt signal strength it has a reasonable range when compared to more expensive examples. The unit sits in a recharging cradle when not in use so it's always ready to go. I have found it very useful living up to it's Oricom product reviews. Recommended.Show details · 1
Great after sales Service
I ordered these radios (2 in a pack) and we had a problem in that we couldn't charge them up once the batteries ran out of life. We were away travelling for a few month at the time so were unable to do anything about it at the time. On my return I contacted the service team and they were extremely helpful and by sending me brand new recharge batteries (with no questions asked) the radios are now up and running again. = Fantastic service.Show details · 1
Good unit, but faulty batteries!
Purchased these online to use on holiday later this week. The units are perfect for our purpose, and worked great straight out of the box. Unfortunately the rechargeable batteries appear to be faulty in one of the units and once drained, would not recharge again... Given the other reviews echoing the same issue, it appears there is a quality control issue with these units. Very disappointed as I thought I'd take a chance on these units that are slightly cheaper than other brands that are more well known to me - will sort out a refund after I'm back from holidays...Show details

Hi, I have a pair of UHF2190 handheld units. I lent them to a friend and now the SOS light keeps flashing and none of the keys ( buttons ) work. When I turn them off the light keeps flashing so I have to pull the batteries out to stop it. Operation instructions are no help. Any help appreciated. Thanks Don.
I think I will just get a pair of GME's and through these in the bin. I've had GME before and they gave no problems and not expensive.

I bought a pair of 2190s from BCF in 2019. I’ve only used them once. I have misplaced the charger cradle so tried charging them via the USB port. The USB port gives no charge at all. Is this normal? What is the alternative?
Hi Dom, for this one, we would recommend that you give our locally based Support a call on 02 4574 8888 Mon-Fri 8am-6pm AEST, or email support@oricom.com.au. Oricom
I just ordered a pair of 2190 and then discovered that Supercheap Auto is selling them exclusively as 2195 with a car charger.
I was wondering if the car charger is also available for the 2190 model as it would be very handy to have them charged up while in the bush :)
