Scotts Osmocote Premium Plus

We purchased a very healthy Azelia about 2 months ago. New growth, flowers, very healthy. Since we put it in a pot and used Osmocote potting mix, the Azelia has gone backwards. Stunted growth, only one flower, leaves turning from deep green to a brown colour now. What a terrible product. Show details

Bye bye Scotts Osmocote – I have spent too much money on this product. It is pretty poor for the price point. The large pieces of wood in it along with lengths of stringy bark make it more mulch and little soil. I use to love this product... I have bought my last bag! Show details

Never again – We purchased two bags of this potting mix... big mistake. The seedlings are not growing at all. The potting mix dries out very quickly, because it just doesn't hold moisture. The seedlings/ plants are yellowing and not thriving at all .The texture is very very fibrous and coarse. It looks and feels like some horrible mulch we collected from our council. Bad product and bad communications – This product turned my plants leaves yellow. My local Bunnings told me that they had many complaints about it and that they had contacted Scotts about it. I contacted Scotts about it and they told me that they had not received any complaints but did ultimately offer me a refund. Four weeks later and I have still not received the refund. Show details

Absolute rubbish, – This so called potting soil was just full of large clumps. And what wasn't clumped up was just wood chips. This was not just a bad bag due to poor QC, this is their standard. Poor mix – I really don’t know what has happened to potting mix in general but this is especially bad. I wrongly bought another bag of this rubbish recently but as I had previously noted that all potting mixes are rubbish I knew I had to add a lot to it. Sand , minerals , charcoal and lots of other ingredients which turned it into something that didn’t dry into a hard lump after watering. I really shouldn’t have to do this Show details

Rubbish! – Have recently purchased ten bags of this potting mix, NEVER again. I don’t know what is in it but the putrid smell coming from it is disgusting. Also I have found that water pools on top of the potting mix then appears to run down sides of the pot leaving the mix dry. I expect to lose plants because of this totally inadequate potting mix. shouldv'e saved my money. The Premium Plus was the same crap mixture consisting of mainly wood chips. Most of my plants have died. I also found it is infested with little gnats which suck the stems of the new plants at ground level. I have spent all this money on potting mix and plants for nothing. I wish I had read the reviews prior to spend all this money. You have lost me.

House filled with mini flies! – We bought two bags of this to repot some indoor plants, and after potting our house for weeks filled up with small flies. A constant barrage of them. I had to install the yellow sticky fly traps in the base of the pot plants, and within days, there was at least 150 on each side of the sticky traps . Replaced weekly as they just kept coming out of the soil. Finally, after a month, it seems numbers have dwindled.

Garbage – This brand used to be my "go to" but I won't be using any of it anymore. They've changed the ingredients and it's just pure garbage. It's just different grades of woodchips. It doesn't retain any moisture, it somehow dries out while simultaneously going mouldy!?? And becomes hydrophobic. I'm going to have to repot half my plants now!!!

Terrible quality – I bought this product based on the past quality of Scott’s premium. It is exactly as others have stated, hot wet bark infested with fungus. The fact that Scott’s and Bunnings are clearly aware of this and still selling the product is appalling. Show details

Rating of The premium mix in NZ – I used the premium mix last year for my begonias and was very impressed with it so decide to use it this year. Extremely disappointed – I emptied the last of my old bag of Osmocote into a pot and topped it up from a new bag. I had to check that I had not mistakenly bought mulch instead. Fortunately Bunnings have agreed to me returning both bags. Show details

had gnats. I didn't have the space to dry it off without either losing the finer contents and having too much bark or taking a long time to do it. My plants aren't thriving in it.

TERRIBLE PRODUCT – After this potting mix has caused my plants to struggle severely, burn on the edges, apparently fighting for nutrients as they are stunted and the potting mix does not uptake water correctly, I sent a complaint to the company. issue for which the manufacturer is responsible. Don't bother contacting the care team - stock standard answer given and no care shown for the poor results by way of recompense. Not only did I expend on the potting mix but a significant number of plants. Disgusted after many years of this product being of excellent quality. Something has gone severely wrong with this company's processes and they need to take responsibility for it if they want to present a premium product to the market. It is ignorance to call this a premium potting mix.

Japanese beetle larvae – I used this product for my new garden beds & what do I find? Japanese beetle larvae all the way through the 7 bags I bought. Biggest waste of money. This product should be recalled & where it's sourced reviewed. Show details

Never use Osmocote Product Again – We purchased the Osmocote Premium Plus Superior Potting Mix. Now sorry that we did. So many flying black …… I don’t know what they are but they have now infected all of our other plants and plants started dying. Now we have to somehow fix all of the plants. Have now thrown out the remaining soil. When we opened the bag there was a swarm of fling black things, Terrible product.

Full of plant destroying pests – I'm specifically reviewing the premium cacti and succulent mix as it isn't listed here but I'm not happy. It is full of fungus gnat larvae and other pests that absolutely destroyed many of my healthy plants. I have replaced so many plants before finding the soil was the issue. Disgusting quality soil – Do not buy this brand of soil. I bought several bags and repotted some plants. It killed one with some sort of bug and I had a mass infestation on several other plants of gnats, for weeks. I had to repot again and it’s literally taken so much time, effort and money. Full of GNATS – Bought 3 bags from Bunnings. Very expensive but very disappointing. When I opened the bags, all 3 had gnats ! Had to put lots of cinnamon before these pesky pests disappeared. Not buying this brand anymore. Show details

Opened the bag and fungus gnats poured out – Opened a new bag from Bunnings and loads of fungus gnats flew out! I've thrown the putting mix away. Would never recommend this product and won't buy other Scott's products either. Very disappointed. Show details

Potting mix – I have bought at least twenty bags in the last few months not happy full of weeds really need to have it quality checked all bought at Bunnings was told it’s the. Best but not happy

Plants Stunted and Dying – I thought It was me, that I had done something wrong !! It turns out that there are no positive reviews on this product, a couple of years ago I repotted several plants and lots of Oxaliscan up in everything, I was puzzled as to where it came from. Show details

Bad product – Bought 50 L Osmocote premium potting mix. But very disappointed! It’s rubbish! I wish I saw this review before I bought it. The said top quality contains mostly bark and no soil. There were flying insects coming out of the bag! My plants did not grow and rot. Had to repot using the cheapest bag of potting mix and it worked better! Very disappointed! Show details

Worth researching before purchasing potting soil – Purchased osmocote premium plus 50 litre as purchased smaller 25 litre and it appeared to be good quality The larger bags were like a rough mulch, no soil and full of thick wood, rocks and paper Certainly disappointing wasted time, money and energy as couldn’t transplant plant into pot Very poor content, weight appeared to be how wet the mixture was Personally feel one star is generous Show details
