What a waste of money. Very disappointed – After camping for years in a dome tent, decided to “upgrade” to the RV4. We did a lot of research, and despite the high price, decided the ease of set-up and the design were worth it. How wrong we were! First weekend away, the poles bent in very light wind. The canvas dripped so much condensation (just from overnight dew) it rained inside the… Read more

tent. We returned the tent to the retailer, who sent it back to oztent for testing. After 4 weeks…the verdict was -we will replace the bent poles, but there is nothing wrong with the canvas. You need to buy a fly. If the tent needs a fly to work properly, please include it! We were also spoken to as if we knew nothing about tents “you need to have windows open to stop condensation” - which we always do. However, the poor design of this tent prevents the use of the large back window unless it is completely covered by a fly. The front awning needs spreader bars to prevent it from drooping in the centre (not included, of course). And this tent is noticeably both hotter in summer and colder in winter than our old dome tent. We are so disappointed with the RV4. Prefer our 30 year old dome tent.

Over priced for the quality – Would not buy a Oztent again. We were camping on the weekend. The wind bent the main upright pole. $65 to get a new one to replace as you can’t bend it straight without creating a kink. Something you would expect from a $200 tent not a tent costing over a $1000. Very disappointing given how much this costs. Show details

NOT waterproof! – The oztent RV is NOT waterproof!! We purchased this tent to travel australia this year thinking we were doing the right thing purchasing a premium tent when instead we should’ve purchased something from Kmart. Unfortunately for the first 6 weeks of our trip (Melbourne to Rockhampton) it just rained everyday. We dreaded sleeping each night because… Read more

the corners pooled with water and the middle seam dripped water on us all night making the bedding and mattress wet (which never dried out between campsites). Oztent very kindly replaced the tent thinking that it mustn’t have been waterproofed at the factory however the same thing occurred with tent number two. Oztent then proceeded to advise us to purchase a fly, a floor mesh mat and a waterproof bag. Together these cost $500+. I can happily say that after purchasing these extras (particularly the fly) the tent is waterproof. However it is seriously disappointing that the tent is advertised as waterproof although it’s not without at least purchasing the fly. Keep this in mind when purchasing your oztent!! The fly also adds an extra 7 guy ropes and 2 poles to the setup so the whole ‘30 second’ thing goes out the window

Structural failure – So disappointed. Purchased after reading great reviews. Admittedly the rain was heavy, but that was why we purchased this tent. We had renailed the tent prior and thought we'd we right. No water inside but both cross beams failed. One above the door snapped in two the one through the middle is now bent. The water pooled above out heads.

Poor frame integrity – I have been on two camping trips with the RV4 and it has broken twice. The support beams are made paper thin which cause it to easily bend and snap in winds as light as 15km/h. Got a replacement part for it but, when the part arrived it was already broken in the same place that the last beam broke in. Show details

Great Tent - disappointing materials resilience – The Tent purchase : I have a new RV4. Waited years before I could afford it. Paid premium price for quality and the easy setup. Best tent ever, but… The Bad: Holes: In 2021 I camped in central western QLD in 4 areas for total of 12 days camping and now have holes in the fly wire sides and rear and a hole worn in the front corner of the supposedly… Read more

tough PVC where the internal frame rests. We have been very careful with this tent in set-up and set-down and transport - as anyone would with the price tag on this investment. So VERY DISAPPOINTED in the resilience of the materials. I have camped for decades all over Australia and in some tough conditions in other tents and never - yes NEVER ever - in all those decades had any bugs chew through my wire or have wear points so quickly emerge. I now have a 6 month old tent with patches that at this rate of degradation wont last long before there are more patches than tent.

Solution?: Hooray for Oztent who do not warrant against bugs - which is understandable - but seriously OzTent you NEED to review your materials!!! 12 days camping! $1100. Holey Tent.

The good: As far as the tent practicality is concerned - its a marvel. The Fly is a must an works very well. RECOMMEND a spreader between the fly poles to stop sagging and reduce flapping. The sides are a comfort, easy to fit, providing good privacy and protection and RECOMMENDED. (We tried using a tarp clamped to the side and sure, that works mostly but clumsy, leaks and flaps.). But the easy zip on sides with a fly wire door and weather skirts and a spreader pole included is brilliant and easy .

Recommended extras: * 2 extra poles for the middle awning peak (comes with sides package only). OzTent- you should supply this with the standard tent!

* Spreader for the mid awning peak (comes with sides package only). OzTent- you should supply this with the standard tent!

* Spreader for the front awning front (a must). You cant get enough tension to square up the front of the awning without a spreader. OzTent- you should supply this with the standard tent!

* Under tent floor tarp (others supply cheaper. 2.4m wide x 5m long will do it for RV4. (Rv5 has longer dimensions)

* Surface Bug spray and camphor packs-to treat inside before pack up.

So sure! Buy one. It IS super quick to set up, (often may not need to peg tent down except the rear 3 pegs to move the window boxed area away from your bedding. Leave the fly zipped to the tent on set down (if dry) and take your bug spray with you to kill bugs & store a couple of camphor packets in the tent before you pack it up. And spray surface bug spray around the outside base to keep the critters from gnawing at the tent. But like me you will probably still end up with holes (which I might cope with if it was a $200 tent). But I expect better quality materials for $1100 plus.

Amazing – Amazing tent used a handful of times and love it, so easy and quick to set up and pack away. Very strong and sturdy especially when all guide ropes are down but handles the wind very well Show details

Great tent – Love this tent. Been to Cape York for 6 wks, Kimberley's for 8 and a few other 2 wk trips. Easy and quick to put up. We can arrive at a spot, choose the site, have the tent up and pegged down, beds made, kitchen set up, and the water on the boil for coffee within 15 minutes. Had 63 mls of rain in 16 hrs at Coober Pedy, didn't get wet at all.. Ideal when only staying one night. Love it

Good tent. Hopeless after sales service – This is a great tent. For the period it was functional it did everything we wanted it to. Easy to put up and down and sturdy. Love the look of it as well. But BEWARE - if you should snap the frame etc (and this is easier than you think - it’s all aluminum and plastic inside) don’t expect Oztent to come to your aid. They will sell you the parts but… Read more

they will not fix it outside the warranty period. They say it’s simple - but it’s not. I’ve tried airtasking, canvas repairers - they all shake their head. I now have a $900 white elephant. Oztent don’t really stand beside their product.

WOW Great Service Great Product – I recently purchased a RV4 tent with the floor saver, and walls /front for the annex. To-date I have only set it up in my garage, but as an experienced camper - (this tent replaces old nylon and an even older canvas tent); this tent is extremely well designed and made. It has inbuilt frame with makes set up extremely easy and quick - a true one… Read more

'man' job. Packing up is also very easy - there is a BIG A & B printed on the corners that fold in. then just roll. I found it fitted quite easily into the supplied carry bag. Folded size of the tent is approx 2m long; hence I will carry the tent on my dual cab's, cabin mounted roof rack - zipper side down!! Thanks Mr Oztent for a great well designed product. Re the service, my tent on arrival had a small fault in the canvas. Tent was replaced immediately!!

The tent to last you a lifetime! – G'day folks! I wish I was a salesman sometimes! Having camped in all kinds of tents and trailers over the years, I've not found anything that makes the camp setup or pack down more exciting than the Oztent RV-4! I've had mine for over 5 years now and set it up and packed it away hundreds of times - it still looks and functions as it did the… Read more ·  1

day I bought it.

In those 5 years I have camped in all kinds of weather - even through a category 2 cyclone in 2014! Using the supplied pegs, I did not have a drama and no water inside the tent!

On group trips I often used my Oztent as an exciting way to distract other friends' children while they struggled setting up their arduous tents and poles. None of that needed with the Oztent, even the 5 and 6 year old kids set the tent up with me! The best part - I'm drinking beer and sitting down watching while everyone else is setting up still! Likewise I'm first to be packed up and ready to roll.

If you want absolute mammoth size, get the RV-5 as it's worth the little extra. The RV-4 is fine for my needs though. It's plenty big enough for a family of 4 with two large mattresses.

Definitely worth every penny! Do yourself a favour, don't be fooled by other makers suggestion of a quick and easy tent to set up - the Oztent is the only one! Buy it!

Quality tent – This seems like a well made tough tent. Its as easy to put up as the Youtube reviews show it to be. The add-ons are only worth the effort if you are staying in one place more than a few days because they are a pain to set up and pack away. The trade you make for the easy set up is that its quite large when packed and you need to put in on your… Read more

roof, but thats fine with me. If I could make changes I would make the packing bag just a little bigger so you don't have to struggle to fit it in, and make replacement compression straps available, as ours blew away while we were setting it up (and they really make it easier to pack). So far its been fine in the rain although it had a little condensation (and we accidentally set it up in a dry waterway so when it rained we were sitting in a small creek - no water in the main tent although the add-on section was soaked and some of our things washed away); it was much nicer in the very hot heat (38C+) than our daughter's nylon tent. Some of the zippers pulled open back the wrong way, and I was worried because the tags say that the 5 year warranty isn't valid unless you post their warranty cards to them (not even have other proof of purchase), but Snowys said they would sort it for us, but it hasn't happened again so I haven't had to test this yet.

Camped for three months in this tent – Excellent quality and quick to set up. It's perfect for long tours and there are no hassles like a rooftop tent or trailer. It can be easily set up by one or two people in just a couple of minutes.

Brilliant – I recall camping in my youth with heavy canvas A frame tents with heavy wooden poles......put me off camping for 50 years. Now 60 plus, I can put this up in a jiffy.....really effortless in comparison. The tent components are top quality as is the canvas....dont buy a " cheapie".....the oztent isnt cheap but you get what you pay for and it will… Read more
