Paloma PJC-15FR
MPN: PJC-15FR1 review
Can't believe I didn't go gas earlier! – After several years in Sydney, and getting used to the warm weather, the cold started to get to me. And with most homes not insulated or poorly so, winter isn't my favourite time to be inside. We had relied on some excellent and efficient (for electric heaters) Noirot and the last few years a few Nobo (before they were no longer made in Norway).… Read more
And they are great at heating average sized bedrooms, studies, and bathrooms. But when you have quite a large lounge dining, formal lounge living space, you'd need several 2kw heaters to move the temp up even a few degrees. And not wanting to have energy bills through the roof, we decided on the Paloma NG heater. While I had reservations about the idea of toxic fumes like NO and CO, these heaters are the most efficient and least polluting of unflued gas heaters. We haven't had one issue to date.
You need to buy a few CO monitors but other than that, it's been great and instant warmth. While our room could have handled a 18m/J or even a 25 m/j, I erred on the side of being conservative, as I'd rather run it a bit more than have more emissions. And the 15m/j model produces the least amounts of emission than the two larger ones. And it's does a great job for those chilly mornings. The timer is set for early mornings and has a pre-heat function, so it starts one hour before the timer states, so that it's closer to your desired temp when you get up.
In average we use it a few hours a day, on cold nights more. Has many built in safety features including O2 sensors, if it feels the rooms O2 has gone too low it'll shut off. Also has a high tech modulating valve that makes it even more energy efficient, to the tune of 5.9 stars out of six. If you have gas at home, these make perfect sense. With a 5 year warranty, made in Japan, and lots of safety, you can't go wrong. Initial outlay is higher than most electric heaters, but for this 15m/j size you'd need approx 6kw of electric heaters to produce the same heat. That'll get costly. This will pay for itself in savings over its life easily and then some.
