Kerosene Stench – Recently purchased the avenger 25. Heats large area well. Put it on after doing some interior house painting and the extreme kerosene stench that it produced was sickening. Called the retailer, they knew straight away the effect of paint fumes and went on to say even spicy cooking fumes ie curry etc can pollute the burners and produce the pungent… Read more
kerosene stench. It was akin to the stench of domestic airports. The remedy: open the house and burn for eight hours, right. Why didn’t they inform us of this sensitive nature of this gas heater. We now have a large plastic bag over it as we did a second coat of paint yesterday. Had we known prior to painting, we could have moved the heater outside. Costly to burn the stench out, also we are on bottles not piped in gas. Grrrrrr not happy
CODE 12 – Hi all I have had this gas heater for a while but there is an error, 12? why does it start to work but after a while turn off and show code 12? any comments? I cleaned filters and sensors though. thanks Show details

Annoying ticking sound when being turned on and off – I bought a Rinnai Avenger 25 Model no. (AV25SN3 Natural Gas, Silver) on 28/04/2017, since day one of its use, when it was being turned on and being turned off, it produced continuous ticking sound for about a minute . I assumed that it was supposed to be like that due to the expansion or contraction of some metal parts being heated up or cooled… Read more
down, however it was annoying. while this annoying sound was not observed with other heaters we used before.
The overall performance was ok, but after a few years use, we noticed that it produced kind of odors like the smell of rust.

Why did I wait so long to go to gas heating? – Jun24 Update We've had these 3 units for 3 years now. Some things are really great. Speed of heat up for example. The air conditioning takes 5-10 minutes to get going. The heating is also steady and consistent. Air conditioning units seem to have a mind of their own. The downside is that these units do generate a gas smell. And, if there is some… Read more · 3
cooking going on or anything else that creates an odour, that adds to the smell. In a large area, it's not too bad but in a downstairs study, not good at all.
Never liked gas for cooking. But this is different. We now have 3 units. Vastly superior to aircon for heating an open area. Very fast warm up time for an area. The walls may be cold, but who cares! Contacted tech support with some technical questions. Got fast response. Just note that these units do not actually switch off, irrespective of temperature setting. So if you oversize the unit for a small room, you will fry. The next advantage of gas is that you cannot overload the supply (nothing can trip). 1 year update - Just to confirm a couple of things. If you do a lot of cooking or are painting, do not use these units as they generate an odour. Also, if you only have a small room and the conditions are quite mild (not too cold), these units quickly "overheat" the room. They are not thermostatically controlled and do not switch themselves off.
Warranty is questionable, heater is good – Heating wise, this heater is very good, heats my large open plan area very well. I have marked it down because the advertised warranty is no quite factual. -https://www.rinnai.com.au/online/heating/portable-gas-heaters/avenger-25-convector/#! years, and a lot of other parts are less than 5 years. Anyone who has bought this based on what is said on the web site will be entitled to 5 years warranty, however you will have to refer to Consumer Council if the claim is not honoured under warranty. That is my opinion, however you should consult legal or consumer council advise.
Updated to 4 stars After warranty has been clarified by Rinnai No hesitation in recommending this heater for large open plan areas. My Area is approximately 160 square meters. It also warms up rest of rooms once I open the door to rest of house My heater says it is Made in Japan which is comforting for me
So warm in our large living room/kitchen/dining – We had an old gas space heater which finally gave up. We thought it was a beauty, we were so wrong. After doing a lot of research, as I always do before we buy anything, we chose the Rinnai Avenger 25Plus, and couldn't be happier. We can't believe how much warmer our large living room is with this heater! And it's much more economical. We could… Read more · 1
see it compared to our gas bill from the previous winter. We're actually heating the living room, kitchen and meals area. Very big room with high ceilings. The 3m long hose is a big advantage as we move it around to face different ways, depending on whether we have friends over and need it to face different parts of the room or it's just us sitting on the lounge watching TV. We set it so that it cuts out when the desired temperature is reached, then cuts back in when the temperature drops a couple of degrees. This keeps the room warm but doesn't waste gas by being constantly on. It has a lot of modes, so if that doesn't suit you, don't be put off by it. You can have it on constantly if you want. It's really easy to work it too. We love the remote as well, easy to adjust temperature if you need to, without having to get up. Highly recommend this heater, should have bought it years ago, would have saved some money on our gas bills.

Rinnia avenger 25 & 25 plus – I have owned both models of these heaters for several years. Never had an issue with either of them. I can honestly say I don’t find much difference between the 2 of them. One thing I will say to Rinnia is they should answer people’s questions when they are asking about one of their products instead of just posting a standard reply saying contact this department or that department. This is not good after purchase customer service. Show details · 1
Packs plenty of punch – The heater is in a large open space so virtually 3 rooms. Able to cope easily with heating up the rooms but it wasn't able to maintain a consistent temperature, heating to well over the set temperature. After a few calls to Rinnai support they suggested a few things and when that didn't work they scheduled a tech to come out and he looked at it… Read more · 1
and replaced the thermostat under warranty. Works a treat now. Would certainly recommend but you need to allow for some ventilation to the outside as its an unflued gas heater. The suppport was better than most organisations.

Not suitable for sensitive person – I bought it 7 days from BingLee and used it for 4 times. It disappointed me! A very powerful heater, warm up the room very quick. However, it produces an ODOUR smell in an hour. It causes me headache and out of breath, open almost all the windows at home, still have the smell. is not all they mentioned. Then I can request technician to check, but if there is not product faulty, I need to pay $195. I regret I overlooked those users complainted about the odour smell. The 4.1 stars of the gas heater is not true! Product review should stay clear a section for sensitive users! Never buy unflued gas heater, even though it is a good brand. I WASTE $1500 for a gas heater that causes me HEADACHE and can't breath properly!

Headache inducing – This heater produces a very strong smell of combustion gases that it lets off into the house since it's unflued. In a moderately large area and even with cross ventilation as is the recommendation, I experienced a headache within quite a short time. Whilst I am a sensitive individual, I would recommend instead to look at a flued gas heater or just… Read more

Simply the best - do yourself a favour and get one – Hands down the most powerful heater I have ever owned. We have a very large open plan house with high ceilings and this heater heats our entire house within a few minutes. We have had ours for 8 years and it's still going strong, not a single problem. Before this we used to have multiple heaters and sit under the blankets until things warmed up,… Read more · 1

Fantastic - powerful & option to use electricity when you run out of gas – Its a great machine - japanese made right? "This Rinnai heater comes with a 5-year warranty for added peace of mind." How can you go past that. Whenever I had problems with it smelling like gas, the filters on the back were clogged with dust- but just a damp cloth wiped over them cleared them & the problem goes. accidentally, not understanding that theres a difference betwen this & LPG. Appliances Online very kindly sent me the correct model & picked up my opened/used one without a complaint. I dont know if its a fault or more just a compromise you have with gas heaters - it blows a curtain of cold air to blanket the warm air below it/push it out further before it rises; this can make it cold to sit in front of
Absolutely love it! I bought two! – This is a great heater and especially safe around young kids. It adds warmth to the entire front rooms of my home. I bought a second smaller Avenger 25 for the back room. Which offers more than enough warmth. It heats up straight away and works well. Show details · 1

Couldn't ask for a better heater – I used gas for the first time last winter and would not go back. I bought a Rinnai Avenger as quite a few plumbers said they were the best gas heaters. I have a 3 bedroom home and there was no drama keeping the living areas warm. Best bit was setting the timer to turn off and on at particular times. Can't recommend highly enough. Show details · 1
Great heater – This is our first gas heater, we used a/c before buying the Avenger25 it was a bit more expensive than other brands but well worth it. inquisitive. Would recommend without hesitation. Like it so much have purchased 2 smaller Rinnai heaters for other family members.
Warms the entire house – Very powerful, warms the entire home, I have made huge savings on my electricity bill, I realized gas was much cheaper. It warms better than the AC unit I had in my previous house. Easy to install. Show reply
I can live without it but am glad i don't have to – easy to maintain and clean. Heats very quickly and when used with a ceiling fan with winter setting, makes the room very comfortable and stops the heater burning excess gas Show details · 1
Instant heat – I have a Queenslander home which is very open and provided I close off rooms that aren't part of the living area, it is very comfortable. I have only ever used the lowest setting and it is perfect. Show details · 1
Almost instant heat – I have the largest in the range that does not need a flue. My loungeroom is approximately 5 metres x 8 metres and the adjoining dining room is of a similar size. There is an open kitchen next to the dining room and no doors. This heater not only heats all of the downstairs area comfortably, it heats upstairs as well. I purchased the heater about 8 years ago from The Good Guys and it is highly recommended Show details · 1

Perfect heating solution – Purchased the Avenger 25 Plus 15 months ago. Heats a large open plan kitchen/dining/family room area on the "gas economy mode" very comfortably and efficiently. Great little heater – We have quite a small house and this little unit is perfect to warm up the large open areas. but when we had ours installed the guy put an air grill close to the unit which is why we dont smell the unpleasant odours, however when the unit is off we do have to put paper over it to avoid cold air entering the house :-(
Wonderful! – We love this heater! Our home has 3.3 metre ceilings, polished floor boards, huge glass windows and this heats it up sufficiently. The installation was simple and it is very easy to use. The only suggestion that I would make to rinnai was to make the stationary vents where the heat flows from flexible so you could change the direction of the airflow but apart from that a very good, economical investment. Not fit for purpose – I spoke to Rennai about the requirements for a heater and was advised that an Avenger 25 would be the best model. I used it twice on cold nights on the weekend. Disappointed with supposed features – We bought the heater two months ago. It works very well if you operate it manually. Heats up the room reasonably fast and the smell is minimal compared to some other portable heaters. The heater has a pre-heat function that automatically activates when you set the timer. It is meant to turn the heater on up to an hour before the set time to… Read more
pre-heat the room based on the room temperature and data from previous operation. This function doesn't work. The heater comes on exactly 10 minutes before the set time regardless of the room temperature or any other factors. 10 minutes is not enough to heat up the room from 13-14 degrees. This function can't be turned off or reset so at the end of the day we are left with a timer that is 10 minutes off and we just need to take that in to account when setting the timer. When you buy a heater for more than $1k with a timer you expect it to work. Rinnai tech support said I can try to get a replacement by returning it to where I bought it but there is no guarantee that this function will work on the new one. If you are looking for a heater with a timer, avoid this one. I'm also not happy with the "I don't care either way" attitude customer service Riannai provided.

Great Heater when used correctly – Use mainly as a backup to our wood burning heater. Works great if you don't over demand. We close off areas not used in winter. dependent on it. If you are going to use gas to heat, do your homework first on flued/unflued heaters and then decide. Both work when used correctly.
