Panasonic Perfect Rice Cooker – I purchased this Panasonic rice cooker in 2014 as it was on special at 20% off . didn't put it into service until november 2016 as I was still using the same old National rice cooker, that I bought in Hong Kong 28 years ago! Didn't think I needed these new fangled "fuzzy logic" computer controlled all plastic body cooker. I was wrong, really love… Read more ·  3

this cooker. First the hinged lid means that the lid never falls off the kitchen bench like the old one. Second, the timer control control lets you put it on standby in the morning and rice is cooked to perfection at the nominated time. Third, the non-stick coating still in perfect condition after nearly 4 years of daily use, just a water rinse and its clean for the next load. Makes excellent congee/rice porridge, never boils over , the quick cook is fast, but the white rice mode is slow, and brown rice mode takes about 2 hours, I use this setting for Basmati rice. The plastic body is cool to touch and is very easy to keep clean. The fold down carry handle is useful if you need to carry it to the next room. In Asian countries like Japan and Hong Kong, the Made Japan Panasonic rice cookers of old were the gold standard from the early days, its definately worth to pay the extra price, these new models are just as good, this particular model is actually made in Thailand and is very competitively priced, it may not last for 28 years like the the old one, but if it does, its probably going to outlast me, highly recommended.

Great little rice cooker – I managed to pick up this little beauty at a garage sale pretty much new so I can't complain about the price. I was not expecting a great deal but a year later using it several times a week I'm really happy. never had a bad batch of rice. Can't comment on the other functions as I've only ever used it for brown and white rice but does these perfectly.  Show details ·  1

Nearly perfect Rice Cooker – My wife and I got this about 2 years ago. It's very easy to use and the rice cooks perfectly each time. She uses it to make Congee as well plus we frequently make a 50/50 mixture of brown and white rice which the Panasonic cooks to perfection. If you've not owned a rice cooker before don't expect "western" style rice, these give the more… Read more

sticky Asian rice which is fine. If you need western type rice either use less water or use boiling water and a normal saucepan.

The non-stick pan shows no signs of degradation and this cooker is used almost every day. Take your time and wash the pan in warm soapy water after use. Always clean the steamer vent and wipe down the seals.

There's only one thing I don't like about the Panasonic and that is that it's all white, I'd have preferred a more cream colour as it doesn't show up fingerprints like the white does.

Absolutely love it – My family and I eat a lot of rice and rice cooker is extremely important to us. Our last rice cooker died on us and we were struggling to find another one. We came across Samsung as our uncle has one but their model is from Hong Kong/Japan. However this model is similar to that and so far we're loving it. Can cook porridge on it which… Read more

works well and tastes good. Rice sometimes can be soggy and you just need to get the right consistency with water.

Love the functions available especially with quick cook.

Highly recommend it.

We've had it for a couple of years now or more to my knowledge.

Was happy but then – I have had my rice cooker for slightly over 12 months (bought from Bing Lee so out of the 12 month warranty) so not long by my standards for an $100+ rice cooker. It has given good service, although I only ever use it for rice cooking, the interior coating of the bowl is coming away!!! I am alarmed as this can not be good for our health. As a… Read more

mother with four young children this was a consideration when I first purchase the cooker, however, I was assured it would be fine.

I am religious about only ever using the provided utensils and wiping the interior with damp paper towel. Seems this isn't enough. Concerned it is coming off with the cooking and we are ingesting it!

Based on this I couldn't grade more than 2 stars. I spent the money hoping to get a number of years from my outlay. I tried contacting Prime Electronics, Panasonics spare parts supplier who are both inefficient, rude and extortionists. So it would appear there will be not happy solution here nor happy customer.

Makes perfect rice – This is a simple to use rice cooker that provides perfect, fluffy rice every time. It's very light and easy to handle and very easy to clean after cooking. I love it. The only slight downside is that to cook a small amount of rice just for 2 people takes about 35 mins - however it does taste delicious when it is finally cooked

The best in Australia – We have Japanese exchange students stay with us and they are impressed their Aussie hosts have this rice cooker. After extensive research we couldn't get the Japanese cooker due to the power conversion. It is THE best cooker we have ever had. Never again will we have dry rice. No complaints.

Not sure how I did without a rice cooker for all these years! – Love this product, cooks the rice to perfection with a minimum of fuss. I was surprised on how quickly it cooked two cups of rice. The most convenient part of the product for me is that you can set it to have your rice cooked at a certain time. Very helpful for those of us that work. Haven't used it for anything else other than rice at this stage.

Good buy – Desperately looking for a good rice cooker as our $29 previous one lasted only fifteen months. After doing extensive online research decided to go for Panasonic brand as we already have a couple of Panasonic white goods and are extremely satisfied with those. Heard about few Japanese brands but we couldn't justify the price we would have to… Read more

pay for those brands. We are glad that we made the right choice. Easy to clean ceramic pot and does not leave any mess. As well, we got a pretty good price for Panasonic SR-DE103WST and we will not hesitate to give five out five stars.

It just works – We have been using this rice cooker for the past 2 years and really like it. We have been using Panasonic rice cooker for the past 25 years and is happy with this brand. This rice cooker has programs to cook both brown rice and porridge in addition to white rice. We used it nearly on a daily basis and it cooks perfect brown and white rice.… Read more

Its timer function is really good and it delivers cooked rice at the designated time. Porridge comes out well as well although given the size of this unit, cant really cook a lot - 1 cup of rice is maximum when cooking with porridge.

The coating on the bowl is still going strong as in our experience, the first thing to give in a rice cooker is probably the bowl coating.

A slight complaint is that the plastic sheet covering the LCD display and the buttons is buldging out slightly. Not a great issue and only a minor aesthetic issue.

Purchased this rice cooker to automate porridge cooking and we will be going back to the manual rice – Purchased this rice cooker to automate our porridge cooking and three mornings in a row and basically three disasters - it does not work with porridge! It possibly cooks rice well, we have not tried at this stage. Do not believe what you read about fuzzy logic rice cookers cooking oatmeal porridge perfectly. Unfortunately I will be going back to the manual rice cooker in future.

Great quality rice cooker – Very happy with my purchase of this rice cooker. Cooks the rice beautifully and really easy to use. Bought from bing lee as i originally went in for another brand and the older shop assistant told me 85% of the cusomers in his store were of an asian background and they 'only' buy panasonic when buying one of the commercial brands. Lol. That was… Read more

enough for me i was sold because rice is the stable food for most asian countries. Well he was right its been fantastic. Ive cooked long grain, yasmin and basmati. Yet to try brown rice. Very happy with thr quality. Just before this purchase when my old excellent rice cooker died after 10 fantastic years of service i bought the breville rce and risotto maker. After 3 attempts i took it back to the good guys and got a full refund. It was shockingly bad. Maybe a dud one im not sure but the store tried to tell me breville have such great quality control that they never get returns. Maybe i was doing it sll wrong. Im quite anal so i used the trouble shooting guide and also researched online help only to find other similar problems. That was enough for me i got a full refund and happy i did so because the panasonic is great. Nothing too much to diss. Breville as i own heaps of their appliances and love them but not thr rice and risotto.

Such an amazing product just works – I have always wanted things like rice cookers to be something that just works. I dont have the time to see which rice I am putting read instructions on the package etc - I just put in the rice - put double water and leave it. I have tried Basmati, Jasmine, round rice and they all turn out good every time. The best feature that wins the award has… Read more

to be the preset timer. I do shift work so I put the rice and water in and set the timer for rice to be ready after 10 hours and walah I wake up and hot rice is ready.

People have complained about cleaning I personally didnt find it a tought task its easy to clean - the top lid maybe just a bit tough but I think its ok.

Long story short worth the price.

has to be the best Rice cooker – this is the best rice cooker I have ever owned . I have had many over the years but this one takes the cake , and I must say it makes the best steamed cakes that you can never burn they come out perfectly every time and moist especially carrot cake. The rice is restaurant quality every time , steams well to and I have even made rice pudding in… Read more ·  2

Can't live without it! – This is exactly the same appliance that you'll see in EVERY Japanese household, and while I waited 10 years for this Australian release it was worth it (would have bought one there, but they have a 110 volt power grid). Admittedly, if you use the 'fast cook' mode you may experience some spillage and subsequent cleaning after use, but I've never… Read more ·  2

even had to clean anything else but the bowl when using the (default) 'white rice' setting -- which is the proper way to cook the stuff anyway.

Previously used the commonly available El Cheapo brand rice cookers with glass lid, which only cook on the rapid setting and spurted mess all over the kitchen top. Only way to stop this was to sit a heavy bowl on top, then wrap a couple of dishcloths around the rim. The fold-down lid eliminates all of that.

The default white rice mode does take about 45 minutes to cook 2 cups of rice, but it uses electricity very efficiently. I checked this with an energy meter and found that it only uses the maximum 750W in very short bursts, then maintains the cooking process using only 70-80W, whereas the standard cookers run flat out throughout the entire process. Also, the gentler cooking prevents rice sticking to the bottom of the bowl (another big issue I have with the non-electronic versions).

As for price, well yes you can buy cheaper (like the ones described), but you generally get what you pay for in this world. If you pay $30 then expect $30 results, no? Energy efficient, EASY cleaning, higher price = higher quality end result. Some rice modes take longer than we (Westerners) might have hoped?

Expensive Rice Cooker designed by dummies – Ok, this product is 5-10 times the price of a normal rice cooker, it has bells and whistles but has lots of limitation. Just can't understand why the designer design a finishing timer that will only work in a few preset mode, but not for other preset mode. Everything is pre-configured, user has no options to control the high or low setting… Read more

(temperature). To be able to control the high or low (temperature) is the key to good soup and porridge.

Another design flaw is the top lid, after cooking, food get stuck in many hidden places, can't be remove and really hard to clean.

If you just want to cook rice and normal white porridge, just avoid this product and get the $15 rice cooker from Kmart.

Pros

Easy to use preset mode, basically just press and go.

Cons

Stupid timer design that only works in Rice, Brown Rice, Sticky Rice and Porridge mode. Other mode like Soup, cake and steam will not work.

Hard to clean top lid, can’t be removed and many hidden places that will have food left over stuck.

A common way to cook soup is to bring to boil, and then slow for 1-2hours. But for this product, soup mode boil soup all the way, can’t control high or low setting. Easy if you wish to cook rice and white porridge. Not up to the mark especially for a rice cooker 5-10 the price of a normal one.
