Pfaff Expression 2.0 / 4.0

Same feeling here. Great Pfaff 1471 but now with new Quilt Expresion 4.0 it is just junk – I used a Pfaff 1471 purchased 32 years ago. As an active quilter, I decided to get the new Pfaff Expression 4.0 I have put $600 into it but it still breaks down. Same problem as everyone. When you go Chinese, you get Chinese quality. Cheap parts to save costs. Singer has ruined Pfaff. The word is out amoung quilters. the 1471 still runs. Show details

Great machine – I have had my expression 2 for six years and have had no problem. Quilting is very good, I can quilt without any thread breaks or bunching on the back, I cannot fault this machine. I have just had my first service and only got that done because of the age of the machine. I use this machine continually. Show details
I bought the label. The machine did not live up to the label – Every time I try to quilt with free motion, my machine goes into the repair shop. The best thing about this purchase was the insurance policy I bought from the store at the time of purchase. It has been impossible to quilt with this machine. The needle threader breaks after about every fifth use, the machine sends "motor jam" messages and stops… Read more
sewing. I have been sewing over 40 years and have never experienced so much frustration with any machine before. Almost every project has to be finished on one of my alternate machines. If this was my first experience with a sewing machine I'd give up sewing.
Not happy with this machine – After having many years of wonderful service from my Pfaff 1471 it was starting to show signs of wearing out. Made the decision to upgrade and went with another Pfaff because I had loved the first one so much. Unfortunately I have not had the same wonderful experience. Its biggest problem is the bobbin continually jams. It has been "fixed" and… Read more
serviced several times and so far it is still a problem. I gave up trying to free motion quilt. It will only stitch with one particular brand of thread and as for making simple dog coats, no way will it work. If I had the money it would be gone. Very disappointed.
The biggest waste of money ever – I'm a pensioner who loves quilting and thought this would be an incredible sewing machine especially for the amount of money it cost. I have had nothing but trouble with it. The bobbin thing broke, the cutting blade broke off, it jams up when doing free motion, and the sensor for the bobbin running out doesn't work. It doesn't cut the thread at… Read more
the end the way it is meant to.
It has been back to the shop at least 3 or 4 times and I've been accused of being rough with it, which I am not. It still isn't working properly and I am wondering if I have to accept that the machine is a lemon and Pfaff don't want to know about it.
Pfaff don't stand by their products otherwise they would have replaced it.
Expression 2.0 - what a nightmare – Straight stitching more or less OK but free motion quilting a nightmare with bobbin thread snagged up in great lumps. Yet another quilting course ruined . Manual no help other quilters baffled. Surrounded by experienced quilters and none of us can solve the problem. Rethreaded, checked and rewound bobbins - yes they were the right way up,… Read more
changed needle - new from pack.
I assume that this has been discontinued as it is such an inferior product ? Shame on you Pfaff
Love my machine! – I got my machine online at considerable savings over the local quilt store but, of course, I didn't get any lessons on it. The manual is no help at all but I was recently directed to an excellent YouTube video that has enlightened me. Maybe I don't know all the features but I love this machine! What a difference the IDT (built-in walking food)… Read more · 1
makes! The machine is easy to use and sews beautifully. Quibbles: doesn't wind bobbins evenly; sometimes a "thread jam" message goes on when nothing is wrong but a push of the button gets rid of that; i'll never use most of the decorative stitches but there are a couple on my old Bernina that I wish this machine had. Basically, I'm through looking at new machines. This one is my favorite ever.
What a bad machine – I had an older Pfaff machine so when it came time to update I chose a Pfaff. What a mistake. The Quilt Expression 4 machine is a monster. It baulks at every seam and will not sew over more than one thickness of fabric. I cannot afford to replace it but warn every one who is going to buy a new machine do not buy a pfaff. Good with free motion quilting. Will not go over any seams.
Excellent – The machine looks very strong and streamlined. It sews with power to match. Easy to choose all the included stitches, automatically tells you which foot to use. Quite a few presser feet included with the machine. I have ordered 3 extra presser feet, and still waiting after 3 months. The retailer blames the supplier, but not sure what the… Read more
problem is. Highly recommend this machine but be warned about the lip near the bobbin case, they should fix this design fault. I purchased the Expression 3.0. Dual lights, wider area for sewing, integrated dual feed. Very easy to use all the features. Heaps of power, especially when sewing through thicker seams. A small lip at front of bobbin case dips down, when you have seams open flat, this lip catches on the seam and shuts them, meaning you have to stop just before it reaches the needle and re-open it. Very annoying.
