Got 2 years out of it, mediocre cut, not worth replacing blades – Bought this to replace a 3000 series that eventually died from water ingress, despite being sold as wet/dry capable. I have a coarse beard and the 5000 series blades have trouble with thick hairs, unlike the cheaper 1000/3000 series. Don't believe the hype about 'auto sensing' blahdeblah. The old style blades work much better for coarse beards. Shaving head develops a recurrent screech (as mentioned by other reviewers) which keeps coming back if you're not religiously cleaning it.

I was initially worried about having to rip the head off to use the trimmer (and vice versa) but the attachment point hasn't worn out.

Proprietary charging plug is archaic, in this era of USB-C PD.

A replacement set of blades ended up being more expensive than an entire 1000 series shaver, so I bought the latter instead. Looking back at my shaver receipt history, I'm replacing these every 2-3 years - so it's not really worth the price premium for the questionable extra features of 5000/7000/9000 series.

Hi there, Thanks for taking the time to share your valuable feedback about the Philips Shaver. We are sorry to hear that you are not pleased with the performance of your shaver. This is not the kind of experience we want you to have with our product.

Please note that using the right technique is key to making sure you’re getting the best results from your Philips shaver. Hairs do not always grow in a uniform direction, and for that reason, we recommend moving your shaver in circles while applying light pressure. This allows the blades to cut hairs growing in all different directions. Additionally, if you haven’t shaved for three days or longer, pre-trim the longer hairs with a beard trimmer to ensure a better result when using your Philips electric shaver.

Also note that if your shaver makes a loud noise when you switch it on, incorrect assembly is the most likely cause. A shaver reassembled incorrectly (after cleaning, for example) will emit a rattling noise when used. Each shaving head consists of a cutter and a guard, with a retaining ring to hold them into the shaver unit (otherwise known as the shaving head holder). Each cutter and guard form a unique set, so always try to return each cutter to its respective guard after cleaning. Place the cutter into the guard with the blades facing downward. When you use the retaining frame to lock the shaving heads back into the shaving unit, ensure that it is locked firmly into place. When the retaining frame is attached correctly, it should not lift off if you attempt to separate it from the shaving unit. If your shaver model has shaving heads that slot into the retaining frame before being locked into the shaving unit, ensure that the notches on the shaving heads are in the projections of the retaining frame. For detailed instructions on removing and reattaching the shaving heads, please refer to the user manual provided with your product.

We hope this is useful to you. If you need any further assistance, please feel free to contact us at 0800 658 224 (NZ) from Monday-Friday, 09:00 am-09:00 pm, or 1300 363 391 (AU) from Monday-Friday, 07:00 am-07:00 pm EST.

Kind regards, The Philips Australia Team

Works well, great service – The series 5000 wet and dry razor is great. It takes a while to get comfortable with it but gives a close shave.

Shave Closeness

Closest shave – I recently purchased my third phillips shaver and this is the best one yet. It gave a nice quick clean shave. Battery life was a little less than usual with around 15 shaves per charge. I use shaver every morning and expect it will go well while travelling as have the others. It is easily cleaned in seconds and it dries quicker than previous shavers which had a tendency to retain water internally. Thoroughly recommend it. It may have been of greater benefit to me as I have been using the same type of razor for over ten years which has allowed my skin to adapt.

Purchased in at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances for $109.

Disappointed – Firstly I'll state that my review might be a bit jaded as I was talked into this shaver over the one I intended to purchase in store, so not happy with myself for that happening either I guess. Also missed my chance to send t back under the 90 days trial due to when it was purchased versus where I was working. Anyway, to the review: On the box its called a "protective shave" this is marketing speak for it doesn't give you a close shave as far as I can tell, as to actually get all the hair, especially around my neck it takes twice as long and I get nearly as much redness as my 16 year old Philips 6885 (only replacing it due to the battery doesn't hold charge & the power cable is disintegrating).

Well, for a wet and dry shaver, it doesn't even work well when its humid (glad I don't live somewhere where it is humid a lot).

After every time you turn the shaver on the "wash me light comes on", even if only for 1 second, so why bother? People are either going to clean it or they aren't, time would have been better spend turning on the battery light when the power drops (you can hear the note of the shaver change), rather than when the battery has run down fully. I guess its so that you don't feel like your always charging it, but I'd rather be charging it than shaving with it.

Doesn't come with anything to house the trimmer which you inter change with the shaving head.

Hi Ralph, Thank you for taking the time to write down your experiences. We truly appreciate it! However, we regret hearing that you’re experiencing some difficulties with your AquaTouch Wet and Dry. Especially from a loyal customer like yourself, that’s not what we would like to hear!

It usually takes about 30 days before your skin gets used to a new shaver. But as we know that you’ve already used the shaver for more than 90 days, we’d recommend making small circular movements with the shaver, because small circular movements ensure that the hairs are approached from different directions. It would also help if you do this while applying gentle pressure. Lastly, we always advise to pre-trim your longer stubble if you haven’t shaved in a while.

We’d also like to thank you for your feedback about the battery light. We agree that this would be a good idea. So we’re grateful that you’ve shared this with us.

You’re welcome to reach out to us at: 1300 363 391 if you have any further feedback to share.

Thank you.
