GREAT Air Fryer Despite The Problem That I Repaired – Product was FANTASTIC when it worked and I removed 1 Star because I had two of them fail with the same issue. Purchased in May or June 2014 and was happy because it had a 2 year warranty for a $364 device. After 15 months the digital touch screen stopped working so returned it to the seller under warranty and walked out the door with a new device.… Read more · 2
Surprise surprise the touch screen stopped working again on the new device about 13 months later.
Called Philips and they provided the contact details of their authorised repaired in my area but they never replied to emails or phone messages. It had to be a simple fix so I refused to throw out the $364 device and so it sat on the shelf for EIGHT YEARS until a YouTube video provided the repair instructions. A IC, 2 Resisters, 3 Electrolytic Capacitors and a Fuseable Resister, total cost less than $17 for parts and $30 for shipping from the UK. Oh yes and $9 for a long Torx 15 driver to reach the back torx screws.
Gave the machine a good clean while it was apart (oil was everywhere) and after 15 minutes of soldering and 5 minutes to reassemble I now had a working air fryer again. The $17 for parts was because I purchased enough for 5 repairs. I am a fairly rubbish solderer so I guessed I would cook a part of two so I got extras. While I hope it doesn't fail again I do have the components to fix it up again. If anyone else has a failed air fryer go to YouTube and search for the make and model number and you may find the appropriate instructions on how to get it back working again.
I really was and still am REALLY VERY pleased with my Philips Air Fryer and now we have two working ones. Got a cheapie other brand while the Philips was "resting" and now we can do chips in one and fish on the other. Saves turning the oven on for 25 minutes to get it to temperature for a 15 minute cook. Microwave a frozen pie on defrost mode for the weight of the pie then 12 minutes in the Air Fryer. A certain "Dr O" pizza broken into quarters to fit half of it into the basket has a nice crisp base after 12 minutes (13 minutes for the Spinach one). Your temps and times will vary so test the cook times to avoid burning. Philips also have a Pizza Try for the Air Fryer (their basket is very small) and will take a whole pizza but the cost is around AUD$100 which is more than a certain online supplier's air fryer. Still, I would like the tray. Maybe Powerball will smile on me tonight.
Good value for many – Had our XL for 2 years can't fault it It gets used at least twice a week Non stick still good make sure you clean it well after each use Agree the timer is not the best but is OK Show details · 1

Wrote previous review Phillips contacted. A joke – The machine has an intermittent fault in electronics and because it didn't show fault instore when I went to return it they wouldn't replace it Second faulty xl I have had. Love the machine but the electronic timers are faulty Show details

Very disappointing product reliability & durability! – One would expect that a branded appliance such as this air fryer with a high price tag would be bulit with reliability & durability and would lasts more than measly few years. Unfortunately, my experience with this air fryer has been troublesome from the beginning. Bought this air fryer back in October 2015 for close to $400, then 18 months… Read more
later it stopped working properly (the digital display won't come on at all). Luckily it was still under warranty, so it was fixed by Philips authorised repairer for free of charge. Although the display was fixed, the air fryer's performance has been deteriorating ever since. Issues such as: 1) air fryer stopped cooking suddenly (but would restart again after manually powering off & on), 2) timer count down was too fast, and 3) the basket did not slide out properly & got stuck. Now, after 5 years, it has decided to go to the 'air fryer heaven' - it completely stopped working, not salvageable.
I really expected more from a reputable brand such as Philips...

Had this for 3 years before we realised what a godsend it was! – When we brought this we were under the impression it was like a deep fat fryer only somehow more healthy and as a result we were underwhelmed and didn't use it for 3 years! We also failed to read the instructions and got annoyed by the fact it kept turning itself off! Firstly, many of the reviews talk about it turning itself off after a few… Read more · 1
seconds. Yes! This is a safety feature. If you do not set a timer it will turn itself off!!!!!! Really easy to use. Read internet to get times. Set temperature. Set timer. Throw in food. Wait x mins. Eat great food. This is not a drop in replacement for a deep fat fryer. It doesn't work great with batter that has not been cooked. What it does do well: - Vegetables - Spray olive oil, black pepper and about 5mins at 200C will make pretty much any green veg fantastic. Seriously, I loath most green veg but will fight to the death for the last stick of airfried asparagus! - Similar to roasting but can shorten times massively. Great for roast capsicum. - Frozen pre cooked food like fish fingers for kids. Looks and tastes fryed and cooks in about the same time but needs no oil!!!
We have just upgraded to the XXL model and I look forward to writing my review of that!
This air fryer is excellent for small home – Our home didn't have an oven, therefore, my husband and I decided to buy an air fryer to occasionally roast steaks and fry chips. However, after using it for more than one year, we have developed several recipes, and this air fryer has ranked to be one of the most frequently used cooking wares in our home. We love it so much! It makes cooking much… Read more
easier. You don't need to flip the food frequently, just simply place the food into the fryer, set the time and temperature, then follow the cooking instructions of the recipe, then it could perfectly do the even cooking without your extra attention, which function is similar to the oven. The better part than the oven is, you can roast steaks or potato chips, etc. without spread oil on it. And you can check the food status at any time without wearing gloves, without worrying about much hot cooking smell coming out. Furthermore, the container is compact, which can be clean easily if you can place the food items into a baking paper. This air fryer is ideal for small families to do clean cooking!

Excellent investment for any kitchen – We were very sceptical about airfryers but everyone kept talking so good about them so we had to try it out for ourselves, we were in Harvey Norman one day and they had this model on special so we decided to purchase it. It makes cooking very easy and with very little mess to clean up after, very good for cooking sausages chips schnitzels and pretty muchAnything you would put in the oven, grill or frypan. Devastated – I have had my Phillips XL Air Fryer for nearly 4 years now & was so impressed I had purchased another one for a gift recently. I could not believe it that this wonderful machine died on me whilst in the middle of cooking dinner. It had been working fine then just stopped. No power at all showing on unit. Changed power outlets without success. Can't see if there could be a relay switch. Show details
Love this machine! – We use it often - more often than expected, whether to cook, defrost or re-heat meals (without the typical microwave sogginess). We've had it for almost 1 year - no issues, in thanks I'm sure to no moving parts. Well designed, reliable and great bang for buck. Show details · 1

Smokes and cleaning is impossible – I bought this Airfryer from The Goodguys. Initially it was working well but after about TWO months, it just had a lot of smoke that every time we used it, the smoke alarm went off. Tried to contact the customer service to get our problems sorted, exchange it for another one or tell us how to get rid of the smoke. The customer service is absolutely terrible. This specific product is useless and waste of your money. Show details

Disappointing – I lost my Ninja Air Fryer in the February/March flood so thought this time would go bigger basket. Big mistake. This air fryer just does not get the crispy taste of the Ninja, food takes a lot longer to cook and temp only goes to 200c. Cooked salt and pepper squid tonight from frozen, on packet to cook in air fryer 190c for 10min, I gave it 10mins and still not crisp or brown. Does not cook as I expected. Show details
Worked when it Worked then dies – We picked up this Unit from Myers back in 2020 because we wanted to try something new a way to cook cleaner and healthier. The unit worked flawlessly without issue and cooked very quickly. The design is good takes up little space and easy to disassemble and clean which is nice to have. We hadn’t used it till 3 days ago after it being packed… Read more
away from moving and the first time in a while decided I wanted to cook something in it and as I’m standing there waiting it decided to trip the power and will NOT work again.
To say I’m angry and annoyed is an understatement it cost us good money only to have to it die so over $300 down the drain (can’t remember the price)
Unfortunately warranty is only 12 months and it way past this now so now it’s a waste of space and money not too happy.

Cooks well but smokes out your house – I wish I'd done a bit more research before buying this unit. For the quality and taste of the cooking, probably the best I have ever seen or used. Clean up is quite laborious with basket having to be dismantled, and the splatter guard etc, but for the food cooking quality I can live with that. What I can't stand however is no matter what you do,… Read more
or what you are cooking, this unit smokes out your house with a curious white vapour/smoke, and so much so I can no longer use it inside. I would have returned this airfryer if I could have, but as it wasn't 'faulty' the retailer said it wasn't their problem. Ultimately, I wouldn't recommend this product, because for the high price of the unit, the smoking issue means its not fit for purpose.

Extremely poor quality cooked food – Bought this 2 years ago and hardly used 5 times, everytime i tried to cook different food but always disappointment. Cooked chicken but doesnt cook like Grill style and soften up everything. Tried exactly the same temperature provided on the product but still doesnt work. Hope i can sell it and never buy it again. Spent almost $400 and gained nothing. I would have rather bought $80 and get better results. Show details

Good while it lasts, once it breaks down no one can repair....landfill! – A lovely quick way to cook anything, but especially crumbed foods. It is easy to clean. My big concern is that it cannot be repaired once it stops working....and it is landfill. This happened after 4 years of intermittent use, just for hubby and me. Certainly not overused. Two electricians told me it can’t be fixed. I hate throwing the whole thing to the tip. I liked it, but won’t buy another simply because it is bad for the earth. Show details

Terrible product. Don’t buy – I bought this product in 2016 Oct. This is not working at the moment it turns off itself after couple of seconds when turn on. Cannot use. It’s look like faulty control unit. Philips cannot replace / or repair. But people should not get this product rather get the Kmart one for $89. Show details

Great when it works – Had my Air Fryer for just under 2 years. Had the same electrical fault as everyone else. Took it back to the retailer who have sent it off to be repaired. It's now been 2 weeks and the repairer hasn't even looked at it. Repairer told me that it could be quite some time before it is even assessed and even longer if they have to obtain the parts to repair it. So much for a 2-year warranty! Show details

WAS great except for the metal ball bearings that now fall out of the sliding drawer – I've been a keen Air fryer user for the past 3 years. Started with one of the small Vivas but soon moved on to the premium collection XL version just under 3 years ago. The XL has been great up until now. Last week I noticed a couple of small metal ball bearings on my kitchen bench next to the air fryer. When I investigated, I found a small piece… Read more
of deteriorated plastic had broken off and there were more ball bearings underneath the air fryer. It looks like the sliding mechanism that holds the drawer has deteriorated and broken, releasing the ball bearings. I'm very disappointed with this – the machine is under 3 years old and for $450 I would expect a much longer life of use for the machine. I'm surprised that a machine that heats to 200°C would use what looks like quite thin and fragile plastic to hold extremely hot metal ball bearings.

More than expected , love it – Bought this on sale $299 and have been experimenting throughout the week Roast veggies crisp under 30 minutes Wedges amazing and 15 minutes Cant wait to try more but super impressed , easy to use and cleaning is simple. Philips..Expected Better Quality – I have had two HD9240s over 5 years. Not so premium – Have owned this for a few months now and use it every day. Would have rated it higher except for some poor design choices, the worst being the basket handle and mesh that can't be removed. This makes cleaning an absolute nightmare. Wouldn't have cost anything to make them removable so I have no idea why it wasn't a feature, especially when… Read more
advertised as Premium and easy to clean.
The digital display is also unintuitive and on several occasions it was unknowingly on pause instead of cook. The power plug is also the worst thing I've ever seen seen and sticks out from the wall almost 3 inches.
My 10 year old toaster and kettle both have flush plugs, but not my premium Philips.
Don't get me wrong I like using this, but every time I have to clean it I curse Philips for making it such a chore. Also, it doesn't go higher than 200 degrees, no other air fryer does so it may be a limitation for some reason. Things like frozen chips and potatoes need a higher temp (210-220) to cook properly as recommend on the pack. Cooking at lower temps means they come out less than ideal.
In summing up, the good:
High wattage Decent capacity
The bad:
Handle can't be removed Poor control and display Doesn't go higher than 200 degrees. Power plug Too expensive, especially the accessories.

surprisingly good – Took a while to be convinced before we bought it. Used it every day for the last week. Cooked chips (fresh, frozen), chicken (whole, pieces), frozen food you would usually fry/oven. Quick to cook and great results. Easy to clean. Happy as. Show details · 1
Great cooker but – Air fryers are a wonderful way to cook food and the Phillips does it very well. Unfortunately, after only 12 months the machine started to fall to bits. First the small ball bearing race under the slide out drawer broke and fell out making it a pain to work the drawer. Then the plastic around the drawer warped so hot air leaks out. the screen all wore off very quickly even though we do not clean it with anything aggressive or abrasive. We paid a premium price for the cooker and the brand name and we expected something of better quality. Of course, all of these faults happened AFTER it ran out of warranty so the retailer could not help us at all. Great when it was new but after 12 months not so great. Even though it is now 2 years old we are still using it even though it's a real pain in the butt as we can't afford to throw it away and buy a new one.

Amazing mini oven! – This is such a great item to use in the kitchen it’s like a mini portable oven that works much faster and is cleaner and easier to use. It allows a great variety to be cooked I’ve made crunchy prawns , crispy vegetables , beautiful fish and am keen to try baking in it. It can be put in the dishwasher which is great to be able to clean as well and doesn’t take away any flavour of the food cooked Show details · 1

EXCELLENT ITEM – So we purchased this Airfyer not really knowing if we could expect it to really be as good as it says. Well we were blown away. parts, the kitchen wasn't like a sauna from a hot oven. I love it. Only things i wish is that the basket was a bit bigger and that it was easier to clean up behind the element. It would be great if they could come up with one that the element was removable. But for the cooking, wow it is great. We cook chips, pies, popcorn etc. I also cooked a rolled stuffed turkey roast last week. I was worried it would be dry but omg it was delicious! My husband was shocked it could cook something like that so well. I was given a Bellini Airfyer as a gift recently. I didn't need it and was going to return it but figured i'd try it out as it has a basket that is at least a quarter larger. Also it has the air flutes cut into the sides as well so we figured even better cooking right? Hmmm well no. It didn't even cook underneath so it took longer. So I still had to turn the food over. NOT in the Phillips, it cooks from the bottom as well. I will never stop using this item. I use it every single day. Even just to reheat things like pizza or chicken etc. Thanks for a great product, I have always purchased Phillips brand and the quality of this item is just more proof of why I keep choosing them.

Good product but not value for money – It is a great concept Philips is charging so much for this unit and not providing any accessories with it. They are trying to rip you off selling accessories at a premium as well you can buy similar products with accessories for almost 1/3 of the price of this unit. Pros Easy to use Quick Cons Bulky Capacity is less compared to the bulkiness Too expensive Not good value for money as accessories are not provided Show details
