The air purifier itself works well, but that’s where the positives end. The app is faulty and unreliable, which completely defeats the purpose of buying a “smart” air purifier. Dealing with Philips customer service was incredibly frustrating—emails were ignored, and when I called, they showed no interest in listening or actually helping to resolve… Read more

the issue. There was zero ownership or urgency from their side. In contrast, Amazon handled the situation professionally and efficiently and arranged a replacement without the runaround. Great product hardware, but the app and customer support are a major letdown. Without Amazon stepping in, this would have been a complete disappointment.

Pretty good – I never bothered with an air purifier before, for what they are they are way overpriced, a fan and a couple of cheap to manufacture filters, carbon and paper - bit of a rip off if you ask me. Then of course my neighbour decided to install 16th century heating into his house and either he doesn't know how to use a wood heater or he is using any… Read more ·  1

dodgy wood instead of proper firewood.

At any rate having an older and drafty house I am greeted with the smell of burning wood whenever he starts it up - which has been daily since installed.

So I picked up a series 1000, leave it set on auto and it does a wonderful job, now I need to jump into the backyard for my daily reminder of how inconsiderate neighbours can be.

The filter replacements are pricey but they last 4-2x competing models provided they last the suggested time they should be competitive - there are also generic filters available, I might try them but I wouldn't expect them to last as long or be as effective, could end up being a false economy.

Worth mentioning, people complain about the night mode on this model a lot but the device is still working, it'll still ramp up if it detects bad quality air, all night mode does is disables the light, ie the indicator - that is all. These devices are simple, a fan with a filter in front, if it's putting out air it's filtering.

Money Drain - filters needed replacing after less than a month of use – Like their printers, Philips have managed to design yet another anti-consumer product designed to create a repeat-purchaser out of you - this device lasted less than a month before turning itself off and refusing to work unless I pay the $65AUD to replace its filters. Absolutely baffling. Show details

The best value air purifier – I've had this air purifier for over two years and I love it. It's so simple to use, very quiet, and easy to keep clean. You won't find a better value air purifier that works as well. The circular air purifiers might look fancier, but the rectangular ones filter the air faster and more efficiently. And because of where the air intake is, you can… Read more ·  1

push this one right up against the wall and out of the way. If you suffer from allergies or a respiratory illness, do yourself a favour and buy one of these.

The filters are really easy to clean so you can make them last, I just take them outside every now and then and give them a shake and all the stuff comes flying out. I have another air purifier with a 3-in-1 filter and it's definitely not as effective as having the 3 seperate filters. The amount of dust that comes out of this thing is insane! It covers my whole 2 bedroom apartment, and it's quite light so you can easily move it around. My asthma is so much better with this in my house, I'll never be without an air purifier again.

This has been a great investment - whilst it worked – Have had this for afew months now - and it has been such a great investment. I have mild sinus issues, but when I have this filter on in the bedroom overnight, I wake up with clear sinuses... I never knew that was possible, until now. For various reasons, pollen and dust finds its way into the house, and the filter deals with it with no issues. … Read more

It's really quiet, and even my dog, who hates the sound of appliances doesn't mind it. It's a little annoying that it jumps straight into night mode when it gets too dark - but it is what it is. Because of the amount of hair my dog drops, I tend to keep it on the pet setting, and I've had to clean the front filter a couple of times - a quick vacuum and re-set sorts it out. Though I did buy spare carbon and HEPA filters when I bought the machine based on the previous reviews, and the supply issues during the bushfire crisis. I do find the buttons can be difficult to press at times - but its not really a device where you have to press the buttons often - so again, its not a huge issue for me. Having the dog inside the house can sometimes lead to unpleasant smells - not now with this filter - they don't last long at all. This has got to be one of the biggest benefits of this device! I have recommended this, and continue to recommend this to anyone who has issues with odours or air quality in their homes. It's easy to move between rooms, its affordable, its not too big, so easy to keep out the way - and can be great for your lungs.

UPDATE: after having it for less than 4 months, I got an 'E2' error (and the unit failed to turn back on again). A check of the user manual indicated this to be an error that can only be sorted out by Phillips, or their approved service agent. So the unit has gone back for repair. So far, its taken Australia Post 3 weeks to get it delivered to the next state... So I am without the unit as we move into hayfever and bushfire season...

Great for the bedroom – I have had other brands of air purifiers before and Philips is the best one I have had to date. The key issue and reason I have changed brands is replacement air filter availability. Philips is an innovate brand, the products are of high quality and they have been in air purifiers for quite some time and the replacement filers are available in… Read more ·  1

store or through Philips website. After two months of use, two big reasons I like this model are: 1) the automatic night time mode, it automatically turns off the control panel lights and 2) the pre-filter is easy to wash and dry and reminds you when it is time to do so. At first when I got the air purifier I thought it was broken, the automatic fan mode was always on a high or medium high fan speed. What I have come to appreciate is that in a bedroom with linen sheets, a doona cover that is essentially a big flat dust collecting surface and carpet, there is a lot of dust. I can see it on my black work desk. It took a week or two for air quality to stabilise and the now the automatic fan is mostly on low or medium speed. No, it wasn't broken it was just busy improving the quality quality in my bedroom. I do notice when I pull back the doona or make my bed it detects the dust and the fan speed increases and then normalises. At a low fan speed I can not hear it, it does not disturb my sleep. As an example of the quality, the fan noise is just air movement, another brand had a squeaky sound in addition to the air movement sound. I have definitely recommend this product.

Flawed design – Auto Mode varies fan speed based on Air Quality. But Auto Mode only works if you keep the light on. If your room is not well illuminated the light sensor will turn off Auto Mode making Auto Mode useless in darker rooms. It should be possible to disable the light sensor so that Auto Mode can be used in darker rooms. Show details

So good! – I've had my purifier for about 6 weeks. The night mode - no, it can't be changed manually, but the purifier still adjusts the fan as needed so I don't see the big deal. I haven't experienced it going into night mode during the day like others have. It would be nice to have night mode as an option to turn on/off ourselves, but it's not something… Read more ·  1

worth putting me off buying. You can always change the fan speed yourself, or if you want to see what colour your air quality is, or what speed the fan is on, you can just tap the night button and it will illuminate for a few seconds.

Other than that, I have no complaints, it works awesome and I'm super happy with the price. The air quality will often reflect 'unhealthy' or 'very unhealthy' in the room around the same time I start sneezing which is pretty cool - shows it's working properly (and what I'm allergic/sensitive to). After a couple of days I noticed a huge reduction in my sneezing, blocked nose, and other allergy related symptoms. My bird seems to be experiencing the same too!!

This is safe for birds (and other pets and us) as it uses true HEPA filter and no negative ions. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but I did a lot of research so I don't think so.

Perfect, don’t know how I lived without it – Great product, had breathing problems before and now all clear, I leave it on 24/7. Sleep better, my Dog also had a skin allergy and that has cleared up. My emphysema is so much better. Night mode I can’t hear it. Show details

A little pricier than other comparable Air Purifiers but works well – Some people seem worried about the Philips 1215/70 automatically switching over to sleep mode so I will address this matter first. When in night mode the air purifier operates just as stated in the Philips manual. When the lights are very dim the unit switches off the bright circular light which indicates the current air quality. The… Read more ·  1

indicators are:

Blue: good. Violet: fair. Pink: unhealthy. Red: very unhealthy.

This is called 'sleep mode'.

NOTE: This does NOT mean that the unit is asleep and ceases monitoring the air quality in the room. It merely turns the light off so as not to disturb someone trying to sleep. Obviously you will not be requiring a visual display while you are asleep.

If you want to check air quality during the night all you have to do is run your finger over the top panel (which you can feel in the dark) and it will turn on the air quality ring light indicator for approximately one to two minutes before switching back to night mode if the room is still dark.

If the room becomes bright the unit will automatically turn the ring light back on (further explanations are in the manual available online from Philips).

Proof that it works efficiently on Sleep Mode:

We use our Philips 1215/70 in our bedroom. It is very quiet in Sleep Mode or the lower fan speeds - so quiet in fact that we don't even notice it is on most of the time.

One time we were suddenly woken by the Air Purifier running at maximum speed in the middle of the night. This was because there were huge winds howling outside carrying dust. It took a couple of hours before the Philips Air Purifier settled back down from 'very unhealthy air' mode. The next day we discovered the street and cars were covered in a fine red dust.

It had worked perfectly. Quietly monitoring the Air Quality and responding accordingly when the Air Quality dropped. We were impressed.

We bought the Philips 1215/70 during the bushfires and our choice of air purifiers was extremely limited so our choice was largely dictated by what was available at the time. (Air purifiers were Out of Stock almost everywhere). The Philips 1215/70 was the only model available and thankfully it coped very well during the bushfires and dust storms.

My wife and I both suffer from severe sinusitis and prior to us purchasing the Philips 1215/70 we would wake each morning during the bushfires with blocked sinus and burning eyes. The fact our sinus improved so much after we began using the air purifier tells us that it not only worked - but worked very well. We now use it each night even though the bushfires are now under control.

PROS: * It works as advertised. Definitely improves air quality. * The Philips 1215/70 Air Purifier has been given a 'Sensitive Choice' approval by the Australian Asthma Council * It has automatic mode as well as four manual fan speeds, 1, 2, 3, or Turbo. * HEPA filter is claimed to last up to 24 months and capture up to 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns. * Good for use in a medium size bedroom.

CONS: * Overpriced, particularly when compared to similar performing Air Purifiers - many of which come with significantly more features. (Presently Philips suggest the RRP as being $349). We have since purchased another air purifier, the Xiaomi 3H. Although cheaper it packs in more features - making it a better buy. * The Philips filters are expensive. Rather than being just one unit, there are three separate filters. The HEPA filter is presently listed by Philips as costing $59.95 and the Active Carbon Filter is listed as $54.95 The Pre-Filter can be cleaned under a tap and re-used. * It is a noisy when operating on the 3rd Fan Speed, and very noisy on Turbo fan speed. * It takes several minutes to change the filters due to there being three of them.

To summarize: The Philips 1215/70 performs well and build quality is right up there. Unfortunately the price in Australia is way too high when compared to other markets. The Xiaomi 3H represents much better value, and the TruSense 2000 and Breville Smart Air Purifier in my opinion might also be a better choice.

Fault in design – Customers beware. All of these units have the same issue. The night sensor on the unit has been designed to active when low levels of light are in the room. The night sensor on all units sold will activate when it should sense light. The design from phillps has made all units sold turn on night when the light level is still high. There is no way… Read more

to turn night mode off. The unit will always run in night mode. Night mode does not have the HEPA mode. No benefit from night mode and no way to override it. Phillps have no answer and have yet to correct the fault in the design
