Philips VoIP321

All in all pretty good. Didn’t fit all my expectations (which are pretty high!) – Just bought one of these from Bing Lee. I have been waiting for this sort of thing for a while now. Really like how you get two handsets! WHY I WANTED ONE: I work from home and am based in Australia. I often have to communicate with people in New Zealand, USA, Germany, Mexico, Brazil. All these people are using Skype, but until now I was… Read more
frustrated with the fact I was locked into standing in front of my computer when I make a call.
INSTALL / SETUP
Was expecting the worst and was a piece of cake. Connected to Skype easily.
HOW IT WORKS:
This unit works just great. One the wireless handset you can scroll through landline numbers and it also pulls the Skype contacts from your PC.
WHAT I WOULD HAVE LIKED:
I would have liked some added software so you can also program landline numbers on your PC for the phone rather than punch each number into the handset and store it there. Or even better, have it so you can import a CSV file with numbers. Just makes it easier.
FREQUENCY?
There is nowhere in the manual or on the CD which tells you the frequency that this phone runs at. I called Phillips tech support and they told me 1.8GHz. This is important for me to know because I run a 2.4GHz wireless network as do my neighbours.
SCREEN
Looks fine, not a fan of orange LED's but that's all it comes in.
SOUNDS.
Cool! Nice ringtones and nice little melody when you put unit back on handset for charging. Does everything it says it will do. Audio driver won't allow music playback on PC. Need to change driver every time!
OK – It's quite hard to get it right using vista, windows 7.These systems support this audio device straight away, and they eventually pick one sound card for the PC, that means, you can't hear anything after skype talking if you don't manually switch sound card in control panel, and you won't be able to use VOIP321 again if you don't switch back.… Read more
It's trouble making.
The sound quality is clear speaker is powerful, it's probaly the best 'telephone' i had, when serving as a landline telephone. you can walk around when making skype phone calls, and not missing your landline phone calls. Good sound quality, smooth finish, good plastic. Neither philips nor skype provide on-going support for it. To get the best users' exprience you need a Win XP PC and an older version skype. It works in windows 7 or vista, but need to switch sound card before/after skype talk. The life expectancy relies really on how philips' and skype's, and microsoft's support. It can be used as a landline telephone otherwise.
OK – We got this phone as a Flybuys Reward a few years ago - 2007. Unfortunately not all the tech information was listed and we did not realise that we would not be able to load drivers for Skype on the Mac. Needless to say we were rather disappointed. At that stage, the quality of Skype on the computer was not so amazing, and we had reckoned that… Read more
having a phone would be better. Anyway, we now just use it as a regular handset which is OK. Luckily the quality of Skype on the computer has improved... Good audio quality No support for Skype via the Mac. Somewhat complicated interface.
Terrible – Where can i start .I have the Philips 3.8.3 Driver but try and work it on Skype 3.8.It works on the first phone call then philips drive wont connect untill you restart the computer so i had to go back 3.1.0.152 version of Skype which is on my cd.Can some one send me a link for another driver as philips dont want to talk about it..Email me on toohot2222@hotmail.com Regards EDDIE Cheap calls Getting it to work
Good – VOIP technology via SKYPE is really amazing, the bonus is that it is relatively free to use. So saving on the phone bills. The handsets are easy to use and have all the functions you'd expect from any other phone - the plus is that you can use the SKYPE phones to call or receive normal phone calls ... not just the VOIP ones. Love this… Read more
technology. modern and contemporary feel, clear reception, speakerphone (hands free) if you buy the 321+1 (two hand sets) - if you answer a call on one handset, the other indicates a missed call (which is inaccurate) also you can not transfer manually entered phone numbers from one handset to another -> you have to enter the information twice which is annoying
