A really great alrounder – I was looking for a scooter that had motorway cruising and able to climb steep inclines in a strong wind. I also wanted a scooter that had a very efficient economical engine. I was asking for quite a lot from scoot as you can see. I saw this scooter on ebay as spares or repair and bought it cheaply as it had high mileage at 43000 miles. I… Read more

looked at it all over before the final bid was placed and found it to be such good quality ( having a full service history with not having been dropped) that i was determined this was the best combination of engine size, power, economy, build quality, carrying capacity, etc, etc. I have now owned the bike for nearly 2 years with no regrets at all. If I was to fault it in any way would that I find the styling a bit bland but that's about it really. I would just like to add that I have owned many different types of bikes and scooters over the years and would put this scooter possible at the top of the pile next to my benelli adivas (150) and 125cc) .....This scooter is the 250cc. My benellis are fantastic scooters but are limited by their engine power for long journies on Motorways and trunk roads.

May 20th 2016 Update:

my scooter has been in my possession for about 3 years and had been a incredible work horse for my journeys up to London and back. on average a 60 to 80 mile round trip. The mileage is on 108000 klm and the engine is still pulling like a train.. I normally ride within the 70 to 80 mph range for most of my journey's when the traffic allows and it doesn't miss a beat. Amazing engine from piaggio. it returns just under 300klm on a full tank.

Now for the negatives.....my fuel gauge has never been a curate so I have to rely on the reserve light to come on to tell me to fill up..the reserve will allow another 30klm of riding reasonably to get you to a garage. the problem stems from a earth fault within the clocks that I tried to fix once but the fix didn't last. I have worked around it no problems. have replaced the ignition coil ht lead to cure a slight miss fire. The indicator lights have always been too dim to tell if your indicator is still active when not required to be on. This is only a issue in normal day light...a bit of a design fault and not a electrical fault I might add. My rear shock absorbers have just given up so affecting the handling a bit but have now got some second hand replacements £30... That's it!!!

I have gone through the normal wear and tear items...drive belts. tyres. a few oil changes and a couple of oil filters...hardly anything really. oh yes...I forgot...my clutch springs started to weaken which caused clutch drag so I replace the whole clutch with a second hand one.. £30...

My advice is to use a good synthetic oil and say every 20000 klms stick some zx1 extra lube in it which I swear by and your engine at least will not wear out.. I honestly believe that if you want a well made and extremely reliable work horse with excellent carrying capacity combined with great economy. you won't get much better than this. They don't make scooters as Good as this anymore. most bikes cars scooters after 2010 begun to go down hill in quality with materials that have been used . Look at the quality of the switch gear. the plastic fittings. everything is cheap and lite weight..buy any year before that date and you won't be disappointed.

If ypu can ride above a 125 capacity then I would say the 250 or later 300cc evo 3 engine scooters are optimum engines sizes for most of your travelling needs.

Quick update... 05.01.2018

I have now covered 131000km on this scooter and the engine is still pulling strong. It doesn't eat any oil either and hasn't taken any water either. The exhaust is rusty (original) The usual drive belt changes have been done every 6500km. It's still on its 2nd set of brake pads. Oh yes... I replaced the bearings in the rear swing arm cradle for the second time since I have owned the scooter. Apart from that, it has cost me virtually nothing considering I use it every day on a 100km round trip to London and back in all weather's. The economy sits at a steady 62mpg and that is at a combination of half motorway and half filtering through traffic jams. . It could well be classed as pretty bomb proof. As other reviewers have commented. Once you try one of these types of bikes for real world Commuting in cities especially. It's hard to fathom why you would want to use the normal modes of biking... Geared.. No carrying capacity... No weather protection.. Etc. Etc bikes unless your Ego is just what your about.

278cc 2 wheeled engineering masterpiece – I am was a very reluctant scooter buyer, coming from motorbikes but they could not meet my needs. I commute 150km most days, bikes are great but either uncomfortable or too big to wheeled in and out etc. This scoot recommended to me by bike dealer and i wont go back to bikes now. This scoot out does the bikes i have had in real word conditions in… Read more

every way (except law breaking speeds). The scoot will sit on 110 -120km all the way up the large hills, twisties are more fun the scoot gives confidence. Will do 320km before fuelling again, i arrive home refreshed in all weather commuting so much easier. Headlights are great. Again, i wont be paying 3 times as much again for a bike when scooters are by far better, yeh i look like a tool and lost my mates but i have a smile and shake my head at letting my ego holding me back from the scooter fun. Just clocked up 12k in 7 months, like it more now. I never said that about a bike i owned. brilliant commuter. its that simple far too quiet. needs better exhaust to bring out the character of the lovely single.

Excellent – I am very pleased with this bike and it looks great too. I am considering getting a bigger engine like 250cc or 400cc so it has more oomph for motorways but I think that comes on the XEVO models only. I would recommend this bike for inner city commuters. I would recommend a bigger engine for those who will be going doing 50mph and upwards… Read more

regularly. Great 125cc commuter scooter from Piaggio. Have had it from new for 2 months now and has proven very reliable. I am five foot five inches and tip toe to ride the heavy bike (about 170kg) but it extremely light when the engine is started. Leaves cars behind at traffic lights and easily races upto 40mph. I have taken it up to 60mph with no problem (I am still breaking the bike in so haven't pushed it further). Officially it says it can do 68.5mph but I have feeling it will do more. It has TONS of space under the seat in which I carry a heavy bike security chain and sometimes carry shopping and helmets. Headlights are strong and powerful. Very fuel efficient, and is rather quiet. I think seat height at 79cm is a bit too high for me (I'm 5ft 5"). Very heavy (but very stable in high winds and once you are moving). Back brake rather weak. Indicators make no clicking noise - so I have had to add my own audible buzzers so I don't forget to cancel the signal)
