Great unit but appalling customer support – We purchased the PC-53AP/C 5 years ago and use it maybe 5 days a year. It recently stopped cooling. Rinnai the importers initially refused to reply to contact attempts for a service centre, then sent the following reply. As you can see( Edit-I did attach Rinnais’ reply email but it’s not showing), they are saying the unit is throw away if it is… Read more
faulty and outside of warranty as they do not service or have service centres for their products. How they get away with that is beyond me? I can not recommend such a dismal product backup and it’s something they should be forced to disclose when selling as it’s not fit for purpose.

Biggest Portable Air Conditioning Available – I brought my Polocool portable air conditioner in 2011. The year I brought my air conditioning we had a heat wave with temps in excess of 40 degrees & the Polocool made my lounge room nice & cool. My lounge room is always the hottest room in the house because it gets the sun all day & the sun sets on the lounge room in the afternoon so by night in… Read more
summer it's so hot but the Polocool keeps the room at a nice 22 degrees.
Over summer it really gets a work out, I can run it 24 hours a day for weeks depending on the weather. The other thing is it is also just a regular fan & a dehumidifier as well so it's 3 products in one. I never have to empty water out of it, the only thing I have to do is clean the filters regularly. I could not live over summer without my Polocool. The only downside is the noise of the compressor it can make it a bit hard to hear tv at times but I just turn the tv up a bit more & it's fine.
Since writing my review my air conditioner has broke down 2 times. I may have brought it in 2011 but the air conditioner only gets used 4 months out of the year so the total air conditioning usage has only been 12 months because it only gets used over summer. I would expect the product to last a lot longer than that. I am lucky I purchased an extended warranty & both times it has been fixed. When it is out of warranty I do not think I will be buying another one.
Polocool 5.5kw Portable AirCon – Currently renting a 2 bedroom north facing, rooftop unit with poor insulation (sheet metal roof), one window. The living/dining/kitchen is open plan and is about 55sq.m. When it is 35degrees C. outside this unit runs all day to keep the room comfortable cool (not ice cool), alternatively the thermostat set to about 27deg C. will make the unit cut… Read more · 5
off to save money but keep the room a little warmer.
The unit is the most powerful unit I could find, after 1 month I have not had to empty the water yet
Paid $940 for the unit from Harvey Norman Blacktown NSW.
The unit is kinda loud, however it is quieter than the delonghi 5kw inverter which was more expensive in Bing Lee. Noise level is similar to a window mounted airconditioner unit. Just remember when you listen to the machines in the shop that you wait 3 minutes for the compressors to kick in.
The window kit is quite good, it will fit any standard height window without problem, I am using a screen door which was too high for the window kit. For this I fabric taped some cardboard (from the box the unit came in) to extend the window kit, seems to be working fine. Powerful, Doesn't need water to be emptied monthly, Doesn't need water to be added ever, Remote control included, Window kit can be modified, When set up outside the bedroom can sleep with it on all night. Not powerful enough to efficiently cool 55sq.m room,
An excellent Air Conditioner – I bought a Polocool 5.5KW model and I love it. When it's 34 degrees outside, the Polocool cools my 25 sq metre bedroom down to 23 degrees in a couple of minutes. I am sure that this Air Con could easily cool a much larger area with ease. I am extremely happy with it. It is a bit noisy, but that doesn't bother me because I could sleep through a… Read more · 2
train wreck! In fact I think the noise helps me sleep. Prices do vary considerably. I bought mine from Harvey Norman on Sale, and paid $799.00. You can buy this Air Con online for $899.00, which is still good value, because this unit is clearly of very good quality, and the relief and comfort that it will provide you with, makes it worth every cent. Apart from cooling the air it also purifies the air. I have suffered from Hay Fever for over 20 years, and every morning I would wake up sneezing because of airborne dust. I don't sneeze in the mornings anymore, because the Polocool has filtered the air. For people who rent, this Air Con is perfect. Highly recommended.
Positive reviews
Three Summers Later Still Great – We got this because of the heatwave three years ago and my goodness! It made a difference from day one. There is not much worse than not being able to sleep due to the heat and this cured that instantly. There is a hose you attach to a nearby window with an included folding kit and it sends all the hot air out that. It can turn a 40c bedroom into-… Read more
a 20c one very quickly. 20 minutes is all it needs. Best thing is that its on windows so you can put it away when not needed. Great machine! Perhaps a little pricey but definitely worth it.
Top Notch Results – Top notch air con from Polo cool really works well Polo cools are a bit dearer than the cheapie ones but really worth it. Ours has brought excellent cooling to the sun struck lounge room of our rental house for three summers. It is well made. Quite heavily built and has decent hoses and plastics. It really pumps out the cold air and cools the… Read more
lounge down quickly. It is chewing a fair bit of power to achieve this though so you need to keep an eye on consumption.
A very effective machine
The Best Portable Choice – I love this aircon! I saved our skins on so many hot Melbourne nights. I have tried many of the portables but only these Polocools really bring the goods an effective cool down a lounge room on a 40c plus day. They have much more solid construction than most of the others and also don't require the water being emptied as they mist it into… Read more
the outlet vent.
Trust me, the others are pretty much a waste of time compared to this unit. Good news on spare parts too, they are readily available locally in Melbourne from Polocool.
Sure its dearer but you can't go wrong with this unit.
It's worth it.
Negative reviews
Great for first few years, then smoke poured out, it is now dead – It was a great little air conditioner, especially because we moved a lot. However, a few years after purchasing it, one day we turned it on and smoke started coming out of the air cond. needless to say it was dead, and found its way on the rubbish pile. I would consider another one, but not from the Ballarat store, as he treated us like we broke it on purpose and offered no assistance. Show details
dont buy as waste of money – bought this as salesman said best on market and this was after i told him i was pensioner and was costing alot stupid me for trusting, had to take back twice as very loud, thurmostat goes on and off all the time and cooling is no better than fan.it is heavy ,no handles to move ,swapped for omega altise and have never looked back. Always gets a full tank – I do like this air conditioner for an average sized room. It cools it beautifully. My only complaint is the advertising says you never have to empty the tank yet my unit needs emptying every 20 minutes or so. And they are not the easiest things to empty making it more of a nuisance than a help I have called the company and the seller and no one… Read more
can help. It's left us hot and bothered which is a shame because it does cool well. Perhaps they should take that line out of their advertising.

heavy duty portable air conditioner – I knew this was better than the previous one a soon as I unpacked it. It solid and heavy. The pipes are heavier duty, the plastic is better quality even the rollers are better. Hooked it up and I was rewarded with COLD air and relief of the hottest days. Wife took to it and loves it too. This is the model to get people. Its dear but its worth it! Show details
Cooled Out Lounge – We have the top level one (6Kw) and it can cool our lounge room, no worries. You do get a bit of fan noise but that is par for the course with these. There is no tank to empty which is good as it mists the water out the widow pipe with the hot air. It came with a very simple remote and instructions. This machine is priced high but it delivers good cooling and is well made. Show details
Pure coolness at its best – I would be lost without this magical unit now. It has managed to keep up on the hottest of our days without so much as a hiccup. My son has autism and doesn't cope with the heat well so this has been a god send. The noise is actually not that loud which i was happy with. Show details

Hot Weather Saver – This machine is AMAZING!! we got this living in a very small apartment and it literally takes moments to cool down the place and it keeps it cool. We find this sometimes better than a standard split system in the hot summer days. we will always use this during summer Show details
This does the job if u r renting – Firstly, This does cool and just cool. It keeps the room cooler if not icy. We got the size they recommended but I would say we needed bigger as it drops the temp but doesn't really make the room cool like a split system. It does need emptying even if u dont use the dehumidifier. and its messy to drain as the drain is so low to the floor. Take it… Read more
outside. It is super noisy so beware if u need a quiet unit. But if u r renting and need a unit to cool then this does the job
Pefect answer this summer – I was warned that portable air conditioners don't work but decided to give this model a go based on some positive reviews. It is fantastic. Really works as well as installed unit as it has a large outlet hose for the hot ait that is simple to fit into a sliding window. Temperature gauge is simple and easy. As the reviews I read stated it is a bit… Read more
noisy but doesn't bother us. It does not have a timer to set it to turn off after an hour or to preset so we just set the temperature up to about 23 degrees and it turns itself on and off during the night. When we get home we turn it on to 18 degrees and it doesn't take long to cool the room. My partner in her 50s loves air con and she wasn't going to stay at my place as much this summer. I am not an air con lover but recommend this problem solver
Good for a small room – Moderate sound level when operating, cools quite well, good for a small area. Would not recommend for a lounge room - even if it is used in the m2 allowance. Does take up quite a bit of space. Great choice if you're in a rental. One of the better portable units. Show details
Great & powerful unit – Ok, let's start by saying it's not very quiet as it's not a fan. The condenser unit is in-built to the portable aircon hence the noise. If you can't accept the noise, I think you need to get a split-system installed. However if you're like us and can bear the noise, this is a great unit. It's powerful enough for a 1-bed apartment living room (not… Read more
very big space-wise) during those hot days. I would rather have the noise and than to bear the summer heat. It also comes with piping and window kit, which we wrapped in bubble-wrap for a better insulation against outside warm air. From memory, we only had to empty the water tank twice in the 5-year we have this unit.
Was good for a while – We had the same problem as above. Worked perfectly for a few months then keeps cutting out to fan only. Polocool say it's the room temp that's cool enough - never had this problem before. Has anyone else had it do this? I'm out of warranty now too . Not sure what to do Show details
best portable air con – One of the most expensive portable air cons but ultra reliable and very effective. I have used this throughout the summer and it has performed very well and I only emptied out a very small amount of condensation once. Awesome machine and I highly recommend it above all others that I looked at
Great Air Conditioner – I bought mine about four years ago. The first one played up after 12 months, rattling and making a dreadful noise. It was exchanged under guarantee, and I have had the same one since. An extremely effective cooler in a large area, but I have found it quite heavy on power usage. However, it is the best and most powerful portable system available.… Read more
Not too noisy, and the fan is powerful. Very heavy to move on carpet, but I am happy that I purchased this particular unit, and it is reliable and something I use all the time in summer.
Brilliant - Highly Recommend – Bought this as a temporary measure as our home was getting A/C installed during winter. The space we had was a large space comprising of lounge and dining area. This machine cooled the room to a lovely 20 degrees in a 39 degree heat wave and kept it cool. Was worth every single cent and very good on power usage. Now it is in the play room and just… Read more
as good as the first day we bought him home. Very much a part of the family and will never get rid of it. Have highly recommended for people who don't have these units and need portable AC. Will not disappoint!!

Good aircon – Bought it second hand, had to replace an electric item, works continuously except if I put it on 25 degrees C, then the unit stops but the fan keeps going then starts up again after a few minutes. Also very little water runs out of the drain and we live in a very humid area, where other aircons fill buckets mine doesn't, anyone else having these cases?
works well – finding this air con pretty good for a portable. only problem I've really had is trying to find extra parts so I can use it in the bedroom, what's the good of having a portable air con you can't move to use in another room? what if we need spare parts????
Works very well – I've had this unit for almost two years now and it is still running great. Guests I have had over have commented that it works better than their wall-mounted ac. Definitely powerful, it cools a combined lounge/dining room with no trouble. It is noisy, but considering that it can be 35 outside and only 20 inside, I'm not complaining! I had a wall… Read more
mounted ac at my previous house and found that my electricity bills were much higher than the ones I have now. I don't know if this can be solely due to the portable ac, but regardless, I haven't had any 'shock' electricity bills since owning this. My children did snap the window bracket in half, but I had that replaced at Harvey Norman.
Compresser keeps turning on and off? – Can anyone tell me if their Polocools compresser continues to turn on and off when in use? This is only the second time Ive had it on and it didn't do it the first time. Is it faulty or is there something I can do?
Most stupidest thing I have bought – I have not even had this for a year yet and doesn't even cool down any part / bedroom in my house what a waste of $1000 could of gottensomething way better then this garbage.
Polocool PC-53A – Not easy are salesperson said to install & run. 1. Door extension not sealing even with 2 rolls of foam around door. (Ordered a made-to-measure perspec panel & taped it in. 2.Hose keeps falling out - Duct taped it in. 3. Noise level - can't hear tv - bought Wifi Headphones 4. Cost to run - Extra $100 per quarter Sept-Dec (but haven't got thru summer yet!) so $1000+ later I have a portable Air Con. That does cool even with GC humidity
Useless after the first season – I've had two Polocool units now. The first worked well for the first summer I had it - come the next year, it would only blow hot air. It was a few months out of warranty, and fixing it would have cost as much as replacing it, so I bit the bullet and went back to Harvey Norman. They recommended the newer, more powerful model, and again, I was… Read more
happy for that first Summer.
This year, I ran it on and off for a week, before the "Mist Motor" broke, and the water tank began to fill up after an hour of operation, which causes the unit to automatically shut off, until you drain it. Leaving the drain open, creates great floods of water, and until I can work out a way to lift it, and stick an enormous bucket behind it, I'm going through 5 towels a day, soaking up the mess.
What a disaster.
Never again will I buy anything from this company. I can't afford to spend $900 a year on a new unit when they inevitably break down, and although it's under an extended warranty this time, I don't want to wait 8 weeks while it's sent off, for repair, in 35 degree temperatures!
PS: When I rang the company to ask what was wrong with the unit, the woman I spoke to, actually suggested I "lift the front of the unit 2-3 inches off the ground, and let it drop. Sometimes that un-sticks the sticky valve.."
(Desperately, I tried it. It did not work.)
Works well when it works... but 2 have broken within 2 years now. I would never recommend a Polocool or Nobu to anyone.
Help my polo cool is blowing warm air – Called polo cool company they said it could need a regas called Harvey normal they gave us the contractor and he said you may as we'll throw it away cause it would cost to much to fix it??? anyone have the same problem
Hopefully it will cool my three bedroom house , – I bought a polo cool p/c -53AP/ my living area kitchen dinning and lounge room are a open plan will one polo cool be enough. I have tried other brands that have not been able to cool my living area. I have read the reviews and have come to the conclusion that polo cool seem to be the unit I have been after . Hopefully
Would recommend this machine – We used to have a Delongi portable air, until it failed completely after only two years. The polo cool is reliable, and cools our 4m X 3m room quickly on very hot days. It's a lot quieter than the Delongi too. Would certainly recommend to friends and family. Keep cool! Quiet and efficient cooling Not much. Could design connection of exhaust a bit better.
works well – i bought two of the 6kw versions and placed them so that the hot air was released up into the fireplace. lounge room is 10 x 6 metres. top story unit. double brick but one side faces west. outside its 40 and inside its 24. outstanding - but have to buy two! powerful nothing - expected the noise -- but lets see the bill
Fan Blower Replacement Part – Hi .I have a polocool PC-53AP/C. The fan blower that pushes the hot air out of the unit ,is been shredded to pieces.I'm looking for a replacement. I've located a parts supplier company that has the part in stock however they don't sell direct to public.Any assistance in purchasing the part would be greatly appreciated thanks. Fan blower screw-on nut was not tightened properly from manufacturer.Caused the exhaust fan blower to shred to pieces .
I was surprised – Renting a weatherboard house in QLD is the pits in summer. Thank goodness for the polo cool. It cools the lounge, dining and kitchen as good as a split and I can't complain about the performance. However, I thought i'd buy 2 units to cool the hallway leading to the bedrooms but using both together trips the safety switch. Also it's too loud for… Read more · 7
bedrooms but much quieter than some of the other brands available. The window kit is very easy too use. Be wary of price differences between stores. I bought from Harvey Norman and they dropped their price from $1299 to $899. I'm sure you can get a better price but I needed to buy the unit that particular day. I'd highly recommend this unit. If it was a little quieter i'd give it 5 stars. Cools a large area. Very happy with performance Too loud for bedroom.
