Intermittent clunk, thud, cough sound and water tank fills up – I just bought polocool 6kw 20,000 btu and mine makes an intermittent, thud, cough noise. I have emailed polocool and waiting for a response. And whenever i unplug drain, heaps of water comes out, even though they say it never needs emptying re Mist technology. Feeling extremely angry at the moment. I cannot stand the thud, cough, whatever noise it… Read more

is. The exhaust is not a very secure attachment to the air con unit. I bought a Dyson fan which was a waste of money, now this other Reputable Branded Product is making me feel the same as i do about Dyson. Ps. It has stopped making the thud noise at the moment Ps. No, its back again Ps. The noise has stopped again, for how long i wonder. I bought this so i could relax and be cool on the day before a major job interview, yet all its done is cause me stress, haven't eaten all day because its taken up my whole day. Aaaggghhhh! But it does cool my loungeroom down. It is the come and go noise which detracts from otherwise effective air con

When it isnt playing up – Its my 4th unit in just over a year. Although Harvey norman have been great with exchanging duds back and forth with me. This unit i have now was sent from new stock south of qld somewhere and it worked perfect last summer. a contraption up with the window slide so it gets max air exhaust output with no obstructions. I started using it back in December when heats waves hit and use it in my 4m square bedroom. The problem i now have with this one is it seems to only kick in and out properly when its set at the temp at the time in the room and if i try to set it below (ranges between 28-30) its blows cold air and then the compressor will cut out and it will display LT, drain water and then kick back in again and then off again always displaying Lt. And it get to a point where it just gets hot in the room and eventually stops blowing cold air. I have never seen it until this unit and just before christmas it started. Its like it freezes up and cant perform properly! Im really disappointed that they cant seem to run good for a very long time (under 6 months) whats up with that polocool? Anyone else have any pointers on this thing or specific ways to run it? Or have i got another one thats a bad egg?

Fantastic – I have the mega polocool.. it is so awesome..it's worth the money as u don't need to empty it or anything only at end of season.. even then it's so easy.. hardly any water.. easy to clean.. highly recommended..I was lucky to purchase mine off a mate for a few hundred who was moving into a place with ducted air conditioned home and only had it 6 months and so was still under 2 year warranty..but I so would've purchased this at Harvey Norman..

Can buy them for 200 2nd hand – Is a very powerful A/C. at 2300w it uses some power but can rival small split systems in cooling output. Pain to connect and seal because of how much heat it expels but other than that, fantastic for a medium sized house! If you get this for 200 bucks second hand you cant make a better choice. Show details

Excellent customer service – My old air conditioner broke down. So I decided to get a portable air conditioner, coz it can be used more flexibly. Having arrived about a week, well packed. Very easy to install the hot air exhaust hose and the water drain hose. There is a CAUTION on the side of the box not easy to be noted saying operating it after 24 hours. more than 24 hours and the unit blows cold air after turning on 30 seconds. The temperature is down to 61 degrees quickly. It’s much quieter than I expected and the remote control makes it easier to use. I like the good-looking design. And the filter is on the back, very easy to clean. Love this!

Excellent Air-con - Bit Pricey – We are very happy with the performance of this air conditioner but I feel the initial price is very high. It's a bit like Apple products where they are better than average but its debatable if they are better enough to justify the high price tag. delivers lots of cold air and made a big difference to us this summer. Its on wheels so you can move it room to room. I think its a little noisy running but that's because all the components that would normally be outside are in the room. Its an effective but pricey machine

Powerful portable aircon – We bought this unit during a heatwave. The unit itself is heavy. Sign of a quality unit. It took around 30 mins to assemble the exhaust hose. It needs to be close to a window to be safe to run. The unit cools down a room very fast. We only have one negative point to make. We use our aircon in the bedroom. Our unit has blue lights that at… Read more

Perfect for our small stand alone art studio – After much searching and deliberation, we settled on the Polocool 58. Perfect for a small to medium space, might even do a reasonable job on a large space, but dunno. Not a criticism, but more a suggested improvement would be to have larger wheels or somehow make the overflow outlet for the water higher so that you can get something under it. I… Read more

Good unit to cool down a lounge room space – The unit was a savior during summer. The installation was relatively simple, but moving it beyond the living area is a little difficult. Using it in the bedroom was obstructed by the plastic window output not being long enough to lodge in the door. The unit was relatively quiet compared to the previous Polocool unit we had. Pretty satisfied with the unit but it was just short of strength making it into the bedroom.  Show details

Wouldn't be sleeping at night without it – Extremely satisfied with this unit. Very easy to install, hubby installed all on his own. The noise of the unit is medium. Excellent product for this Australian summer. If we didn't have it no one would be sleeping as kids can't handle overheating. Would recommend product to friends and family.  Show details

The best portable air con available on the market, full stop – Purchased a Polocool Mega 6KW second hand unit from Gumtree three years ago, after doing alot of research on the various options. Yes, portable air con units are heavy, bulky, inefficient and costly to run, however when this is your only option as a renter, you cannot go past the Polocool Mega. My suggestion to any prospective buyer is go… Read more

for the larger 6KW model as you need as much cooling power possible, regardless of the cooling size of room guides mentioned by manufacturer.

Those guides tend to be based on a 'perfect' environment, when in fact my home is old and cannot retain heating or cooling due to the building condition.

The unit has been run solid daily each summer for 3 years, sometimes up to 20 hours non stop without a break, and does not skip a beat.

If the unit is installed correctly with a decent seal around the exhaust and window panel you cannot go wrong.

The unit will however disperse alot of water despite Polocool claiming it is minimal, however this is the same case with any portable A/C I have used before. I have the unit sitting on a small cafe table and will let the water drop into a standard size bucket, that needs to be emptied after 24 non stop hours.

The unit may be considered 'loud' to some, but again in comparison to other models I have seen it is very reasonable and the white noise to some, like me, is soothing and you will have no trouble sleeping through.

If you are needing portable air con for a large closeable room this is your go to, and rest assured you will not regret it.

The unit will not only make you comfortable, it will get your space down to a crispy coolness if that's your thing during the hideous Australian summer.

Bit noisey – Does an ok job of cooling but quiet noisy and hard to sleep with due to fan noise changes when temperatures are reached. DOES work but consider your electricity bill – I purchased this late in summer 2016 after not being able to stand the heat in my poorly ventilated, poorly built house. portable units. And that's if you buy the 6.0kw top of the line model. The reviews were mixed but I got it home and was pleasantly surprised that it actually did work for my large open lounge area. It cooled the space significantly, struggling to work on only the hottest of days (40C+) but it did the trick for most of summer and kept us more comfortable.

So, pros are it does work. It's noisy but not obnoxiously so.

Cons? Price. This unit is hugely expensive and installation of the hose + window set up can be fiddly. It is extremely heavy and difficult to move around, especially if you need to get it up stairs. ELECTRICITY BILL. This thing uses a lot of power and if you're desperate enough to buy one you'll be desperate enough to use it all day, so expect a giant electricity bill. This unit is only for those who know they have no other option to stay cool. If you can figure out a way to install a split system, do that instead.

Does A Great Job – Our evaporative Air Conditioner decided to die in the middle of Summer so instead of making a quick decision on a replacement we purchased a portable air conditioner. reduced to 18 degrees but it still does a great job on such a large room. It even cools the passage to the other rooms quite well also. It is fairly noisy but that is to be expected for such a large unit. Would certainly recommend. Has made our summer very comfortable until we can replace the good old evaporative system on the roof. Might be a bit of a shock to go back to evaporative especially when we get humid weather.

Was great until it stopped working – Was a great machine for almost 2 stinking hot summers. Then stopped working - started overheating and stopped releasing hot air at the back. Works well, if you can stand the noise – PROS: 1. This A/C unit cools well. 2. Control panel on the unit is easy to use, as is the remote control. 3. Good having it on wheels to move it around. 4. Window extensions are available separately. CONS: 1. This unit is very loud & it's hard to hear the TV when it's on normal volume. 2. Very, very heavy. (Thank heaven's the unit has wheels!) Has saved my sanity over this endless hot summer – We have this unit set up in our bedroom as it's the only room we can close off, the lounge room being way too open and you'd have to sit directly in front of the fans to gain relief, whereas in the bedroom the temperature drop is very noticeable. and I cannot take the heat that our Brisbane summer has dished out this year. Over a month now without a decent break in hot weather. Both myself and our elderly dog, who also can't take the heat, have loved the relief the unit has given us.

We have the exhaust hose that leads outside wrapped up in insulation foil from the back of the machine to where it vents at the window which helps reduce the heat emitted normally via the hose.

The unit has been on every single day for over a month, often from 10am till midnight with only a short period turned off just to rest the motor.

It is easy to set up and use and we only need to empty the water tray every couple of weeks.

Noise wise I don't find this too bad at all, to me it's like 'white noise' and I've no problems dozing off while it's on.

I highly recommend this unit. You are much better off buying a portable air con this size than a smaller one I feel.

Great on hot and humid days – I bought the 6.0kW model because of the open plan design of the rental house I'm living in. empty the water collection tray as the water evaporates. It is a heavy unit, weighing approx. 45kg, so isn't all that portable but for us that isn't a problem because we have no need to move it from the room it is in. I don't find it too noisy, in fact I don't believe it is any noisier than our ceiling fans. Installation was straight forward and connecting the exhaust hose and window attachment was easy following the supplied instructions and was completed in about 10 minutes. I have wrapped two towels around the exhaust hose to insulate it and this had reduced the amount of heat that radiates back into the room. All in all, I am very happy with the air conditioner

Great air conditioner – I bought this model 2 years ago and i have had no trouble with it. It was so good i bought a second one. Now if it is hot i not longer care as i know it will cool the rooms quickly i place it in. Surprisingly good – I was a bit dubious about how effective this would be, but was pleasantly surprised. It works quickly and effectively cools 2 large rooms. Cools our open plan lounge room well – I bought the Polocool 6kw during a heatwave (40 degree + heat) to cool our open plan lounge room - which is approximately 30m2. the noise level of a pool pump when it starts up, in saying that, when it reaches your desired temp, the fan cuts in when on automatic mode and the noise from the compressor stops.

You can also manually turn it to the fan setting as well. Unfortunately, portable air cons make a certain level of noise but there are ways to work around that with the option modes on the product.

If you use it for the bedroom like we do and dont like to much noise then i would suggest turning the Polocool on an hour before you go to bed and then leave it on fan after that for a much more comfortable sleep.

Another couple of suggestions would be turning the temp to around 19-22 degrees. We find thats a good maintanence setting and less compression noise. Would also pay to get a good power surge plug fitted for those summer storms when they come through.

Upside, my office was approx. 60sqm and it had no trouble cooling it within 30 mins to a cold temperature, it doesn't have a drip tray so no need to empty, the unit itself doesn't get hot, remote and timer works well. Also the guy at harvey norman said full replacement for 2 years e.g bring the unit in they replace for another, and also for around $150 you can extend that for another 3 years, just something to consider if you're worried about flushing your money down the toilet.
