Pope Manual Tap Timer failing to turn off after required setting – I purchased & installed 2 of the Pope manual tap timers prior to going on holidays from Bunnings at about $25 each so that my neighbor could water my garden while I was away , what a disaster both failed within 2 months failing to turn the water off and still watering the following morning, now the water bill has doubled, do not rely on this product

Shocking waste of water at my expense – Absolute rubbish worked for 6 months the stayed on for 9 hrs whilst topping up swimming pool one evening. Total waste of water was set to run for 1 hours. Seems this unit fails all the time, maybe take it of the market(substandard) Not happy at all. Show details

They are OK, and 3 out of 4 lasted years and worked well, until one failed!! – I have four clockwork Pope water timers around my house. The timers are the orange 2 hour ones. I have had them for over ten years, without a problem. That is until recently, when the timer in my shadehouse failed to turn off. It used thousands of litres of ware over one single night. I bought a new one, and it works OK. The problem I have now is… Read more

that I have this useless broken tap timer, and I hate to just throw things away as they are plastic and SHOULD still work. I'd love to repair it (I have spent my life designing products, so it couldn't be too hard to fix. Just a spring I'd say. But the ones that work, do the job well.

I thought I was the problem! – Have used many over the years but in past two years have tried to convince myself I was the problem as three separate units failed to hold shut (water just runs out through the actuator switch). Poor experience with range of other Pope products over the same period. Very disappointed. Show details

Cannot recommend this product – Have had around a dozen over the years but in the last couple of years they keep failing with monotonous regularity - won't turn off is the biggest trouble. Persevered long enough and would not recommend the product. Show details

Poor reliability of Pope mechanical water timers – I have used many over many years with inconsistent results where they don't always turn off. Some work well but others after some use work inconsistently. Not sure if it is a quality control issue but very annoying and hard to prove as a warranty issue.

Timer that can’t time – Purchased a Pope 2hr manual timer. From Bunnings two weeks ago. Worked for two weeks and now the timer doesn’t work resulting in a one hour water going on for 9hrs. Show details

Lasted 1 week after the 1 year warranty expired – Occasionally, this Pope tap timer would seem to go 4 or 5 minutes longer that the time it was set for (not really a problem), but then without warning it failed to turn off completely. Unfortunately the water ran for several hours before anyone noticed it was still on. This is the second Pope tap timer that lasted barely over one year --- it… Read more

Terrible. Not built to last – We have had a few of these. We have found the timing is not accurate and within a few months of use start failing. For example we have one where it does not stay set to manual - it turns off randomly. Would not recommend and would not waste my money again. As a follow up I've replaced with the Gardena 2hr mechanical timer - which has been brilliant.  Show details

Waste of money – Pope I normally regard with some sort of quality. We bought 6 of these and have lasted from 6mths and last one 2 years. Not switching off is the problem. I'm sure we have wasted about $400 worth of water with them not turning off. Whilst in use they get too varying points on timer and don't go any further and stay on Show details

Absolute Junk - Save your money – I have been using Gardena tap timers for years which has madewatering easier and saved me from leaving a tap running on the garden many times. I went to Bunnings to buy another a few months ago and found they were out of stock. They did have the Pope model which looked very similar and was about $5 cheaper. What could go wrong with such a basic… Read more

device?

The Pope model has been junk right from the start, hard to start, water not turning off and water passing.

I have just replaced this model with another Gardena model and this will go in the bin.

If you want a tap timer, spend a couple of extra dollars and give this a miss.

Will never buy again – I bought a batch 3 of these timers for my garden and am now using the third one. The timer component on the first one ticks off 20 minutes then stays open, possibly because the timer face has pulled away from the casing. The second one leaks like a sieve from the release lever under the timer. In 40 years of gardening, I've never thrown anything out that hasn't at least had a bit of sun fade. These are shiny new!
