If you're considering buying a Redback battery, stop and think twice. ... no just run the opposite direction, and STAY AWAY from them. I spent approximately $24,000 believing I was investing in a premium Australian home battery system that would give my family reliable energy security for years to come. Instead, I got months of stress, repeated… Read more
system failures, endless emails, and one of the most frustrating customer service experiences I have ever encountered.
My battery repeatedly went offline and remained non-functional for well over 120 days, and continues to be non operational . During that time, I continued paying electricity bills while looking at a $24,000 system that simply wasn't doing the job I bought it for.
What shocked me most wasn't the failure itself, it was what happened afterwards.
Every email seemed to lead to another investigation, another delay, another explanation, another promise, but never a real solution. I spent countless hours chasing updates, writing emails, gathering evidence and escalating complaints, while Redback continued to tell me the repairs would happen "as soon as reasonably practicable."
Imagine spending $24,000 on a premium product and then being left wondering , if it will ever work properly again.
The most disturbing part came later.
I discovered that Redback had apparently already approved a warranty battery replacement and communicated that approval to my installer, yet I was never told. I only discovered this myself while preparing for legal action. Had I not uncovered it, I would likely still have been waiting.
That revelation completely destroyed any trust I had left in the company.
After months of failures and delays, Redback's position is still that only a single battery module needs replacing and that there has been no major failure. By this point, my confidence in both the product and the company has been completely lost.
Buying this battery has cost me far more than money. It has cost me countless hours of my personal time, months of frustration, unnecessary stress, and complete confidence in a product that was supposed to make life easier.
No customer spending this kind of money should have to fight this hard simply to have a warranty honoured.
I am now pursuing legal proceedings to recover the purchase price and have the system removed.
If you're researching home batteries, don't just compare the specifications. Ask yourself one question:
What happens if something goes wrong?
Because based on my experience, that's when you'll discover the true quality of a company.
For me, this has been the single worst consumer purchase I have ever made, and if this review causes just one family to pause before spending tens of thousands of dollars, then sharing my experience has been worthwhile.
I have concerns about liquidity of this company, it behaves like a company that is running on fumes, it may go belly up any time. ASIC should look into this Company to see, whether they are continuing to trade while insolvent.

Absolute rubbish Company. My system is 3 years old and has not worked for the last 2 years. They will not or cannot repair it. I basically have to take them to court to get anywhere now. I would avoid at all costs. Show details
Australian company .. great. But that’s as good as it gets. Constantly off line and disconnected. Service is non existent, no one ever visited site to advise it’s all up to you. No direct contact number for assistance. All remote to the Philippines or where ever .. no one returns any calls and absolutely no back up. Installing electrician equally… Read more
as useless with multiple calls over many weeks never returned and total reluctance to come and assist… always an excuse to not assist.
In short .. do not touch this company or product… a never ending nightmare to deal with.
I purchased a Redback 11kw system in 2018. All 4 batteries have been replaced or upgraded and now one 3kw battery is faulty, reported 15 Jan 2026. Approved for replacement in March but heard nothing since. VERY poor customer service and they never answer emails or calls. I don’t know how companies can get away with atrocious service. It’s no wonder people are swapping out the systems. Not happy Jan..!!! Show details
Shocking company should not be in business. Been without batteries for 12 months, marketed as australian product but chinese with their own trash firmware giving constant failures. Overseas support don't know anything and often don't respond. Ripping the system out and replacing. If you buy any of their products you are in for a world of pain. Show details

If I could give less than 1 star I would. This company are a disgrace from a support aspect and still to this day sell a product they know to be unfit for purpose and nothing more than a Goodwe inverter with poorly configured software which degrades the storage batteries. They went into administration last year and somehow are still trading and… Read more
even worse, marketing a product they know to be rubbish. They blame the Pylon batteries they use for the issues well knowing that it is their software that prematurely kills the battery packs. They hide behind not responding to customer or installer complaints and deflect constantly. I urge anyone who has an issue with this company to contact me as I am ready to hold them accountable legally and publicly for their abysmal customer service and support.
I reside in New Zealand and am writing to formally express my dissatisfaction regarding the lack of support for my 72-panel solar system, which utilizes dual Redback inverters sourced through Zen Energy and Rise Energy of New Zealand An inverter fault, identified as a failed proprietary fuse, was reported on March 14, 2026. that a replacement would be dispatched immediately following a stocktake delay, the part has not been received nearly one month later. Additionally, my correspondence to the CEOs of Zen Energy and Redback Australia has received zero response, not even the courtesy of an acknowledgment!
This matter is now critical. With an approaching cyclone, I am currently without a functioning battery backup, which negates a significant element of my $200k + investment in this system.
Terrible after sales service, our battery is only 4 years old but hasn’t worked for the last 6 months. Redback won’t replace or refund. Won’t answer emails or calls. Would Not recommend buying from this company. Show details
Alike many others....No customer service either with the existing company or previous liquidated one. I was coerced to buy from an Australian start-up by the installer, who themselves no longer support the company or product!!. There is no customer service, as you are pushed to the installer, who doesnt have the technican anymore and wont… Read more
respond, and if you write to Redback they will ignore you as well. I have repeatedly chased up some issues and questions and been ignored. The app is quite average and doesnt work for the basic consumer functions you need to manage your battery, without lots of manual works. Im happy to recommend others choose more wisely, and avoid dealing with this company.
I purchase a system from Plico in Perth. Whilst I acknowledge Plico have tried to help with the issues it seems that it's all too hard for them to resolve the issues. Having paid over 20k for the system 3 years ago I would have expected a much more… Read more
reliable system. 2 of the batteries swelled and it took over 8 months to be replaced. Having 3 phase power I am able to run 2 systems, the Fronius system is 3 years older and 2.8KW smaller yet produces more solar power that the bigger Redback system. I have brought this up with Plico many times and never get a response. I have now taken the matter to consumer affairs as the Redback system has never ever performed as it was sold to me.
Follow-up · I believe the battery swelling was a manufacturer fault. Out of the 4 batteries that have been installed 3 have now been replaced. None of the returns that were promised by the sales person have happened and in hindsight it is extremely unlikely that this was a cost effective purchase and I probably shouldn't have bothered with the VPN. I will say… Read more
****DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY*** I had an electrical technician from Delta Electrics out to check my redback SH5000 battery solar power and found that TWO of the batteries has swollen. He said it could take up to 6 months to replace. I am… Read more
looking at getting some compensation as the batteries have never worked properly since we got them as it would only charge to 65%. We had to wait for 6 weeks before the installer could come out to test it. (Oct 25) On that note the job was logged in July 25 and it is now Feb 26 with no solar working. I have had no response from Redback Technologies even after numerous emails sent to them. There is no phone number you can call. I am now looking at going to ACCC to get a refund on this whole system as it has never worked to the Australian standards and the business does not respond or want to resolve the issue. If anybody else has had this problem please reach out to me on this page.
Follow-up · I have emailed this company and still no response to this day 10-03-26. Time to get my lawyers involved faulty batteries the warranty period is suppose to be 10 years
I purchased a 14.4KWh battery system 2 years ago, deciding to support an Australian business rather than buying the Telsa system that my installer recommended. This was a terrible mistake. Primary issues: - built in 5KW inverter limits my solar panels to 6.4WK - max draw for any protected circuits is 5KW, even when the grid or solar is… Read more
operational. I can isolate the battery to avoid this but then I have to manually activate the battery in the event of losing grid power. - atrocious app - I can't even set my minimum state of charge - I have to get my installer to do that simple task - zero technical support from Redback - you can't call them and if you try to raise concerns, they either ignore you or write back with platitudes.
I dislike this system so much that after 2 years, I am paying good money to replace it with a Tesla Powerwall 3.

status or financial viability. They do not answer emails, they do not support their products. How do companies get away with this? I see so many negative reviews.
Follow-up · My advice to buyers is to steer clear of Redback. The company recently went into administration and was only kept afloat by an investor. Their systems have proven unreliable — the software is unstable, and almost everyone I know with a Redback unit experienced failures last year, many of which remain unresolved. My own system failed just after 5… Read more

LEMON I'm sick of the constant, problems, drop outs, app and web portal issues and complete lack of customer support I am actioning a product refund from you as this product is not fit for purpose I am going to lodge a complaint with: Queensland OFT (Office of Fair Trading) and ACCC. But you know that already as I lodged a complaint with your staff days ago who said he would escalate it but as per Redback Technologies usual behaviour I have received no correspondence

I purchased an Inverter, external box and 2 X 2.4kWh Pylon Batteries from Redback Technologies Brisbane QLD to go with my solar panels, which were installed on my house by the local installer in March 2020. The batteries were from Pylon Tech based in Shanghai China and have a 10-year warranty. I complained to Redback Tech on 11 August 2024, 4… Read more
years only into the warranty period, about the performance of the batteries after some months of malfunction and was informed on 30 August 2024 by the technical customer support team member, that "after updating both the firmware and software versions and recalibrating the batteries, the issue still persists. This indicates that the batteries are in poor condition and need replacement. I will have the warranty team process this and get back to you". On 10 September 2024 I asked for progress and on 30 September 2024 I received this reply: ‘The claim has been submitted to Pylontech, it can take a number of weeks for them to reply to the claim request. I will follow them up however its likely to take another week or so before they approve the requests. Apologies for the delay, I will try to have Pylontech escalate this request. customer support'. Despite further request for updates in October, November and December 2024, I have had no further response from Redback. My installer has also contacted Redback and was informed that the delay was with Pylontech. I tried also to reach out to Pylon Tech in China but no response. I then received a phone call from Redback Customer Service on 11 Feb 25 who informed me that the replacement had been approved but they had no replacement from Pylon and that my battery was no longer manufactured. So, I then asked that I receive a refund or replacement with their current supply. They still market a 4.8kWh battery which would be equivalent to my 2 X 2.4kWh batteries. I have tried repeatedly to resolve with no response from Redback Tech This has now gone on long enough - more than 7months. Redback Technologies are still selling Pylon batteries, so there is no excuse for not honouring the warranty. I am now reporting my issue to Fair Trading for assistance.
