Renovator Paint Runner Pro Questions & Answers
VerifiedI have purchased the renovator paint runner pro and I am using the paint runner roller. this has been successful in the past but on reuse I have poured water based paint into the paint runner roller only to find that it is just running out the other end I can’t see any reason for this. The viscosity of my water base paint is Timbacryl so what could possibly have gone wrong.
Can I use Matt paint in the paint runners pro please thanks Martin
Anything water based should be fine.
Is it suitable 4 painting a ceiling
Do you add water to the paint?
I didn’t need to. I don’t think they ask you to add water
Hi Derrick, Thank you for your enquiry. We recommend using acrylic or latex paints (no enamel or oil-based paints). If the paint is too thick, mix in a little water as per manufacturer’s instructions to achieve desired consistency.
Hope this helps.

Hi I would like to know why the paint runner pro is not suitable for enamel paints. Is there away to thin the paint, say between brushing and spraying ratio, or is the problem with solvents destroying the foam or plastic frame. I quite like the roller it is a real shame it's built so piss weak but that's the way of most of these cheep things these days. Like I said, used in the right manner it's a good idea, I've painted heaps of jobs know. I try things with the roller to see if it will work or not. If it doesn't you just throw it out and buy a new one. I'd just like to know from your product testing of the paint runner pro why you say it is NOT suitable for enamel paints or solvent base paints, granted if you do it's a one time use, you throw it out. please let us the public know why we can not use enamel paint and what happens if we try to? Regards ROBBO
Hi ROBBO, Thank you for your enquiry. The Paint Runner is not suitable for Enamel Paints as this type of paint has a much lower viscosity. This type of paint will feed through the roller too quickly plus cleaning the roller afterwards is very difficult to do effectively without wasting a lot of thinners. Hope to have clarified everything for you.

thank you for clarifying this issue. I have used your paint runner for years with all types of paint and if you mix the paint at just the right viscosity it will work but like all cheaply made items it's hard to get two rollers that will feed paint at the same volume I load two some times three rollers at the start of a job plus when are you going to fix the texture discrepancy in the rollers some will leave a set pattern others are just like using a standard paint roller you have a really good concept with the roller why not make it better so you'll sell more to the world simple things like the end cap I fixed mine in about 30 minutes just drilled it and put a twist lock on the cap and a small tong on the other side come on guy's you have heaps of great products but they are built to cheaply or your engineering department needs some one that thinks out side of the box with real life experience with using the items they build. Regards ROBBO
I bought this because I thought it was going to be easy but I'm sweating away maybe it's because I have to paint a textile wall but that's not the point every time I put pressure on the paint Runner pro role as advised if you need a sticker coat that end cap keeps popping off I was going to use superglue to hold it down but then I remembered I have to take it apart to wash it how do I stop the cap from popping off
Do I need to add water to thin-en the paint, I did this by adding some water to the paint.. it did work eventually, is there a guideline to how much water to add. or should it just work without adding water as I am about to use it again to do my granddaughters bedroom.
Hi Winston,
If paint is too thick, you can indeed mix in a little water based on the manufacturer's instructions to achieve your desired consistency.

I just started using mine, the emulsion paint was not expensive, but would not come thro the foam, so after reading some comments I mixed about 25 percent water, and it gradually came thro. the thick paint was slowing it down. After a few strokes the roller performed well. I remember when I used to spray paint on cars, we used a simple guide which was a drip test to see if the paint was runny enough to spray, adjusted with thinners. Barry
Hi Barry,
That's really great. This is a very handy tip for the Paint Runner. Thank you for sharing this.

The paint wont come through my paint runner pro. Any ideas?
Hi Sandra, We recommend doing the below steps for the Pain Runner: 1. Remove cap and fill with paint 2. Roll on unwanted newspaper for 2-3 minutes until the paint spreads evenly over the roller (for the first time only) 3. You can now paint without dipping or dripping 4. Place in a standing position when not in use 5. If doing a ceiling it is recommended to only half load the brush 6. Pour unused paint back into the tin when finished

send it back I could not get it to work, nothing like the TV
TV makes it look simple I'm sweating away especially having to pop the cap back on every time I go to put a bit of pressure for an extra thicker coat of paint it pops off Lol as for the cutting in tools are crap all the sponge came off painter room within an hour FFS it's been 2 days and I have not finished a small bedroom getting out my roller as they say they old habits die hard and as I now say old-fashioned tools are a lot better

Hi Jeff,
The Paint Runner Pro is suitable for water-based (acrylic) paints only. It is not suitable for oil or solvent based paints e.g. varnish or enamel paints.

can I use paint runner pro to apply flowcoat to the bottom of my 7 mtr boat I understand that it would be almost impossible to clean, thats fine by me, just buy a new one. the real worry is flowcoat starts to go off anywhere between 15 - 30 min I'm hopping that being mixed while you work plus out of the air will give me longer to apply the flowcoat, it really is a horrible stuff to use when it has the wax in it for the final coat on large areas. With it being held in the base of the roller it will only go round inside the roller & may stick to the edges so it won’t release any paint off, personally I’d use a normal mini roller & just add small amounts at a time( the enough to cover a metre square then top up your tray adding the lid on the paint after every use, hope this helps
