Appalling customer service - unit broke after a few months – We purchased this unit in Nov 22 and the fan came on everytime you turned on the water - hot or cold. 3 plumbers have looked at it and all say it shouldn’t be doing that and to call Rheem. Rheem want to charge me $200 for coming to look at a unit I have already paid people to look at -
Purchased in for $2,300.
- Smells of Gas: No

Unsatisfactory – I had the unit installed 8 months ago. Thought it would be great not runing out of hot water when family are home visiting. To begin with, I use 3 litres of water to get the water to the warm stage in the kitchen. I have to boil my jug to wash my dishes as the hot water system barely reaches 40 degrees. The plumber said the strainer in my tap must have gunk in it so I replaced it. Still not hot. Then he said my 18mth old tap was the problem. Replaced that still no hot water. The pressure is so low you need the hot water tap on full to get the WARM water to flow. My husband has also insulated the pipes
Biggest disappointment and waste of money ever. Would talk anybody out of buying one

Water not hot enough and takes too long to heat up – Warning: DO NOT BUY this water unit I wish I had come here to read the reviews. I wasted over $2500 on installing this unit which also included have to install an outside electrical outlet (the gas unit now requires electricity as well!). First it takes too long for the water to heat up so while you save on gas, you waste lots of water. Previously, my gas hot water tank was right next to the bathroom so within a few seconds, very hot water would come out of the hand basin. Now, it never does so I am forever washing my hands in cold water (unless I want to waste a couple of litres of water while it heats up).
Secondly, the water is never hot enough for the kitchen sink. It is only 40 degrees Celsius and I have to waste a couple of litres of water before it gets to this temperature. The kitchen sink is a bit further away from the unit than the bathroom.
I called Rheem and they sent out a plumber and there was nothing he could do. He says that is how it works.
He kept pointing to the 50 degree warning label but I kept pointing out that the law states:
"hot tap does not exceed 50 degrees at any bathroom fixture"
It is supposed to be 50 degrees at the tap, NOT the setting in the unit and only bathroom NOT kitchen or laundry. But the plumber refused to increase the temperature.
Beware buying any continuous hot water unit. Check how long it takes to heat up water and whether you can set higher temperature in kitchen and laundry before buying.
This unit fails on both these issues.
