Rheem Continuous Flow Questions & Answers
VerifiedHi - I have a Rheem Metro 26 Max which is about 7 years old. Lately, we have had no water coming out of hot water taps - this usually happens after a day or tow of a slow flow before it comes on as normal. I switch the system off and then on again for a reset. It is happening more frequently. What could it be?
Hello, My Rheem 20 is leaking where the water comes up into the flow sensor - between the silver clip that holds them together - any suggestions why?

I purchased a home three years ago and was told the hot water system was new. It’s a Rheem 27 continuous flow and has now stopped working and shows error code 11. I call a local plumber and he has informed me that this model is now obsolete and have a bad reputation and parts are hard to get and not reliable or worth fixing. What warranty does Rheem provide ? I was advised to purchase a brand new Rheem 26 and told that is a more reliable and better built system. I’m from Wagga Wagga NSW.
Your plumber is right about rheem not being reliable or worth fixing. Save yourself a headache and buy a new HWS made by anyone other than Rheem. Currently fighting with a Rheem gas HWS that stopped working properly after a few months and rheems tech couldn't fix. It's about a year old now and alternately scalds and freezes. Our water consumption has tripled since installing the rheem, as it won't work at all unless the water gushes at top volume. They're cheaper for a reason, and the daily agro is just not worth it.
Thanks for your input. What system would you recommend?? I did call Rheem and my system is out of warranty so they said they would send someone out to provide a free quote to replace unit. A few hours later they called back to inform me I’m not in an area they service. Largest inland city Wagga Wagga. I did provide my details and address when I called the first time. I have now been provided another plumbers phone number from Rheem which just goes to message bank. Not fun when things break on a Sunday and you have five children at home.
Steer clear of Rheem. They are bloody hopeless. I did some research on these units. The new DUX condensing units are good. They are Japanese made which in my mind is a big plus. I’ve installed two of these, one is the condensing unit which uses the waste heat from the exhaust outlet as a preheat for the cold water as well as the main heat exchanger. This equates to a much more efficient water heater. It’s also the 60deg model, fantastic. Simple to install as the pipe work from the Rheem to the DUX is almost identical. Be aware though, the condensing unit requires a drain hose to drain away condensation from the waste heat exchanger. I simply plumbed mine with flexible hose to a nearby drain, or you could run it onto the ground. Not a lot of condensation drips out.
The other DUX unit I bought was a standard non-condensing unit for our granny flat. It’s excellent as well. Super hot and very efficient.
Good luck
Corey, the standard DUX units are in the shelf at Bunnings. If you want the condensing model it’s a special order that takes about a week. Nothing wrong with the standard units.
Thanks heaps. Sold on the Dux unit. Will place an order tomorrow
recently Rheem metro26 continuous hot water Max installed to my house. I accidentally found that the gas meter is moving very slowly when there is no hot water or other gas being used. I googled apparently some gas hot water system has a pilot light that is constantly using little gas. Is it true to Rheem metro26 continuous hot water Max ? If it is true I will stop worrying if there is any gas leaking in the house. With thanks.
how do I relight my Rheem 24?

Hi have a Rheem 24 unit. Sometimes when you open the hot water tap, no water comes out. This usually rectifies after a while, but it is happening more and more frequently. The unit is just over 2yrs old. We are in NZ
It’s still under warranty so give Rheem a call. Hopefully they’re service is better in NZ than they are in Brisbane. Try turning the power off then on again when it happens, I had to do this continuously but got sick of it. My unit wasn’t very old but I bit the bullet and got rid of it. I’ve bought a DUX 21 Always Hot unit for our granny flat and it’s awesome, they are made in Japan and very reliable. I’m just about to buy another DUX unit for our main house-26L Condensing Unit which is extremely efficient as it uses the exhaust heat to help warm the water as well. Consider this model if you replace your Rheem. Rheem seem to be getting worse as indicated by the reviews. Good luck!
Thanks
Hi They have a known problem and its all about water pressure reducing valves not being fitted but are needed for these units. Rheem are aware and should fix for you! Mine was similar age. Good luck!
Thanks
Have a a Rheem Pronto 12 installed last year and have noticed lately it’s been getting gradually worse heating particularly late at night . I had the hot water tap on about 20 mins and still no hot water. I have it connected to the gas mains and it is only supposed to turn on when the tap is on but it just doesn’t wanna work. It’s getting very frustrating ! I didn’t expect these problems from a practically brand new unit. Not sure what I can do as I can’t afford to get a plumber out .

You're lucky. Ours lasted 6 months before this rot started, although it never was very good. If its under warranty get Rheem to send out a tech It won't help, but at least you'll have hope for a day or 2. Be warned they will put a hold on $200, even if its obviously a warranty issue, and won't come until you can pay. Won't matter if you need that money for silly things like food. Rheem are really committed to customer service. Tech told me to remove my water saver shower head, not doing that as we're on tank water, so we are stuck with a water heater that doesn't heat. Go Rheem. There are chat boards dedicated to how useless Pronto's are - there are a few work arounds. Try running the cold tap on full for 20 seconds then switch to hot on full. Repeat if necessary. Not sure if this actually works, or just gives you something to do while you stand there naked and shivering. Anyhow, welcome to the Dud HWS club - we should get Tshirts.
Just had Rheem Tech come out and literally fixed my Pronto 12 in under 20 minutes. It was fully tested and found out that the issue was a “known issue” with this model and the part is called the “water body” which stopped detecting water flow so then it couldn’t tell the burner to heat the water coming in. This part was an older type that had worn out and the replacement was fully covered by original warranty so cost me $0. Rheem do usually hold $198 on debit card in case it’s not a warranty job but this was waived in this case . There is a 3 year warranty on parts and 10 years on the water burner . I’m definitely relieved and now hope it continues to function ok as it can turn very expensive very quickly. Thanks Rheem.
Ha Naked the first of 3 replaced i felt like i was been gassed like i was in a German Camp in WW 2
This is known issue you say but they still sell this incompetent machine?
Our brand new Rheem Metro gas continuous hot water system fitted by a professional tries to light even when only the cold water tap is used, also every time we flush the toilet. What is the cause?

Our Rheem Metro 26 is only 4 years old. Every time we turn a hot tap or shower on, the water pulses then almost stops completely. The only we we can fix it is if we turn the hot tap off, run the cold water for 30s or so then gradually turn the hot tap back on. The hot water then starts to come through. Does anyone know what the problem might be? I’ve checked the filter on the unit and it’s fine.

Hi, we have a Rheem 24 gas hot water, and around 50% of the time when you turn a shower or tap on, hot water won't come out, the water pulses and then stops and the heating unit "groans" it requires a reset, and then most times works, surely this is something it shouldn't be doing?
HI How old is your rheem hot water IF you contact rheem direct they are really quite helpfull. Kerry.
3 or 4 years old, being doing it very sporadically for about 12 months, now it's every second day.
